Wraith like wisps of air clung to the moist ground, water, air, and earth in perfect harmony. To the point that it made for a beautiful sight. The smell of warm soil and cool foliage mixed well together, something Concordance did not fail to notice. This was the work of two powerful beings, no three. They were working together without even being aware. Concordance walked amongst her fellow’s creations and admired all they had done, how much they had grown. She had been along for such a long time, much longer than any of the humans, and even longer than the younger elementals. She could feel her time had come, and she planned to enjoy it as long as possible.
A light breeze swept the fog away, leaving the forest deathly quiet. Concordance looked around, she could feel something, not the natural end of her live, but the unnatural. Something sinister was snaking its way into the world. So her time was not to come after all. The temperature started to plummet, and before she knew it, she was standing on deadly blades of grass, frozen into place. It made for a surreal scene, ice covered earth in the summer.
Something moved to her left, then her right, then the left again. Soon the forest was ablaze with dark shadows moving along the tree line. Concordance wasn’t be definition an elemental. She was more of a referee or so she liked to think. Making sure the rules were kept, and putting everyone and anything in line, to an extent.
The shadows kept at it, raising the tempo. Soon she couldn’t breathe. The air itself was being sucked out of her lungs, and moisture from her skin, and the warmth from her body. In less time than it took for her to blink, she was gone. Ceasing to exist. Her lifeless body fell to the ground, and was pierced by the many grass turned blades. Her lifeblood spilling onto the earth. Somewhere all the elements felt the taint of her death. Air felt the void created in that spot, Water felt the unnatural use of his element. Fire felt the extinguishing of a bright beacon, and lastly earth felt the greatest pain. Earth felt her hit the ground, felt her blood spill across the skin of the earth. They did not know why, but they felt pain, longing and a tug to that spot.
Anival was busy checking on the plants, earth had told him that there had been a drought in many places, and said the planet was thirsty, so he willed it to rain and it did. It wasn’t as simple as it sounded, there was a lot more to it, but after decades of practice it was second nature. For as long as he could remember he had been with his constant companion. After a night of working he was on his way back, gently floating on a river, watching the fish and marine-life swim around him. In his most peaceful state, he was a clear patch of water, floating along. The fish loved to be around him when he was in the water, it was sweeter, crisper and cleaner. They could feel it. On his way back he felt something, nothing he had felt before. It terrible sadness and shame. Tears started to well, and the fish scattered. Thunder crackling in the distance. He knew he did not created thunder, merely what came during. As if on cue the skies started to pour, imitating their masters greif.
