Icepaw looked away. This wasn't working the way he wanted it to. "I guess..." he mumbled.
-
After a while, Sparrowheart returned to find another warrior sharing the conversation. "Hello,@ she purred warmly, "have we met?" She turned to smile at Secretserenade when she noticed Airheart watching her closely. Sparrowheart couldn't meet his gaze. "What's wrong with you?" she scolded herself.
-
Sparrowheart heard voices amplified within the cave. They didn't matter to her now, though. Moonflight was so close to her! "Why would I care?" she thought angrily. She told herself she would protect her sister and not let anything get in her way. A silent tear rolled down her whisker as proof of this mental conflict. Moonflight's pelt brushed against hers and she blushed through her crazy emotions.
-
"And my name's Sparrowheart," she replied, sitting down and relaxing. Her muscles loosened and she stretched, her tail swishing in the air.
-
Brindlefang accidentally crashed into the unknowing Snowpaw, sending him hurtling into a bush.
-
Sparrowheart began to follow, but tripped over a pebble and stumbled headlong into Moonflight. She didn't move to get of him.
-
Sparrowheart turned away, even though it took all her willpower, and got up. She never wanted to fall deeply in love with anyone again, and have her heart broken into a million unusable pieces. "I'm sorry, I should go find my sister," she mumbled, and moved to leave but hesitated at the entrance.
-
Sparrowheart gazed longingly at Moonflight. "I-I don't know if I can trust you," she blurted, and then looked away, embarrassed. "Well this is awkward," she thought.
-
Brindlefang leapt behind Marshpaw. He seemed big and intimidating, but he was actually very timid.
-
Sparrowheart didn't know what to do. She liked this cat, but she loved her sister more. Her knowledge of love needed an update. "I just don't know if you'll leave..." .
she mumbled. -
Sparrowheart gazed into Moonflight's eyes, slowly losing herself in their warmth and familiarity. She began to close her own eyes, her spirit floating through an invisible utopia. She realized, she loved this cat, just like she had loved Dandelionhunter, all those moons ago. But now Dandelionhunter was gone. She had told herself that she would never love again, then came Moonflight. She could feel her paws slipping on her promises, and in this moment they gave way, to an empty blackness that Sparrowheart welcomed. She knew everything would be alright now. She awoke and buried her golden face into Moonflight's black chest, beginning to cry.
-
Sparrowheart snuffled miserably, but kept on expressing the pain her heart was going through in tears. Her feline heart ached, but she felt as though a great weight was lifted off her chest. A weight laid down the moment Dandelionhunter caught Sparrowheart watching him and his other mate through the tall, swaying grass. They wouldn't have ever noticed her if only she hadn't slipped in her shock and fallen onto them. No one had said a word, but Sparrowheart had only needed to exchange a glance with her crush to know everything. The intruding she-cat, Oakpelt, only looked confused. Sparrowheart had wandered off into the forest, dazed. She had wandered without regret or care for anything until her paws hurt. In that spot she had collapsed and slept for many days, until a wandering loner cat had discovered her, and nursed her back to an able condition. Then she became a loner for a while, until she came back to her senses and remembered her dear sister. At that point she had raced back to camp, where no one had noticed her absence. All that time she felt lost, like a rejected bird with a broken wing. Now she was found. "Do you swear on your life that you won't ever, ever, ever leave me?" she inquired, spluttering through the waterfall of relief that kept pouring out of her.
-
"May I join?" Sparrowheart inquired, smiling. Her golden flank twitched in anticipation for the hunt. She loved hunting. The blood of victory in drops on the ground always made her proud. She could catch anything that came her way, because she was so agile like a bird, hence the name.
-
Sparrowheart sobbed on, soaking Moonflight's pelt with her wet joy. She shook uncontrollably and sank to the cool stone floor of this memorable little cavern.
-
"I-I l-love you t-t-too," choked Sparrowheart, and snuggled up closer to her soulmate. Soon she fell asleep against Moonflight's comforting flank, breathing calmly, totally exhausted from her mental conflict earlier.
-
Brindlefang only stopped to turn and smile at Snowpaw. Hopefully he didn't look too guilty. He glanced apologetically at Marshpaw and mumbled his thanks.
-
Sparrowheart dreamed along with her love, fantasies of what her life might have been like. A happy life with her sister and parents smiling down on them. Hunting with a kind mentor who loved her even after she became a warrior. Meeting the perfect, loving, non-double crossing Dandelionhunter-- It was here that she stopped and abruptly awoke. She frantically looked about her, until her eyes landed on the soundly sleeping Moonflight. She purred and laid back down and closed her damp eyes, savoring every moment she spent here. This time when she fell asleep, she dreamt of a possible future with her unspoken mate, Moonflight.
-
She stirred slightly in her happy sleep when Moonflight expressed his love for her, but did not awake.
-
Soon the happy couple had slept the night away, and the soft rays of dawn crept through the entrance of the little cave, shedding light on Sparrowheart's unopened eyes, causing her to slowly wake up. She sat up and stretched, first clawing her front legs far in front of her and lowering her head, then raising her chest to the unseen sky above. She purred with satisfaction, and moved to wake her soulmate.
