The priest looked as if he were about to sigh in relief, then he realized he was supposed to be... "odd". "I am not odd! Standing on the ground makes me feel so far away from Him, our God, is that odd? I prefer to walk places where I can stay close to Him."
Truth to be told, that was in the back of his mind when he got up on the roof, but he hadn't really realized until he had scented the dew-flecked grass on the church grounds. Now, it was like a divine blessing, an escape from these guards. They knew he was a priest. It was obvious from his attire and the book he had dropped. As they let him go, he quickly scooped the book back up into his arms. They apologized, saying that yes, God was important to stay near, and no, they shouldn't have asked such harsh questions. The priest nodded slightly and smiled again. "It is alright. You are forgiven. You are always forgiven under the light of God..."
And goodness gracious, as if He himself had heard the priest, a ray of sunlight burst through the clouds behind him, illuminating the man for a while. The guards scurried away quickly before the priest let out a sigh. Turning to the girl, he smiled brightly. "Thank you!"

Carrie again shrugged absentmindedly. "Okay. I don't really care. Humans eat dead cows in between processed wheat." What she was describing was a beef hamburger, but it surely sounded a lot more grotesque that way. "Of course, we cook them..."
She shrugged for the third time and emptied another bottle of water trying to put out the fires on the adjacent graves, where the rotted flowers left by previous visitors had provided perfect kindling for the fire.
    -
"Wow," Aijin said, awe evident in his voice. "You can tell all that?"
He could hear things, but he couldn't distinguish two voices from each other, let alone four. To him it was like there was just one person talking to himself. A little weird, but he was used to that, since a lot of the Silver Splinters in the lab talked to themselves. And who would be out here at this time of night but the Silver Splinters?

Nodding, the priest waved them toward the church. "Now let's get in before someone else finds you." He said, stepping quickly toward the church. He opened the doors and watched as the light from the outside flooded into the now-empty church. "Reverend Hassen! I'm back!" He yelled cheerfully.
A man, only a little older than the priest, stepped out from the back room. "My, that was quick. Did you get the herbs I wanted?" They seemed to be good friends. The priest handed the man a small bag that had been tucked away in his belt under the robe he wore. "Yep. Drove a hard bargain for it, but it went really well and I actually got a pretty good deal. And... I brought some friends..." looking over at the two people.

As the priest tossed it, the reverend, apparently "Reverend Hassen", opened it up and took in the strong scent of ginger, crushed honeycomb and rosemary. He nodded appreciatively. "Good. These were grown well. Plus the honeycomb still seems to have a bit of the sugariness of honey to it." It was mostly mumbled to himself, but he soon closed the bag and smiled up at the visitors.
"Welcome. It's alright, you can come in here. There's no special protocol for anything. All I ask is that you make your face visible, and state your name. That way, God can reach you. And in a church, it is important for God to be able to reach you, is it not?" Reverend Hassen had a kind but strong voice, much unlike the gentle, soft one of the priest who worked by him.
The priest laughed. "Oh yes! I haven't had the mind to ask them their names..." he turned to the hooded man and smiled. "My name is Jadon Lycott. You can call me Jadon, if you like. And him here," turning to look at the reverend. "is Matthew Hassen, or as we call him, Reverend Hassen." Said Reverend Hassen nodded his greetings and then asked, "and who may you two be?"

Carrie had turned around right before Vincent had disappeared. She stood there with an unwavering expression for a moment, then she went over and looked down at the piece of paper.
"Pfft. He left a note." She said it as if it were very amusing to her, which it was, a bit. It was just a scrap, and she almost didn't want to read it, but she picked it up to see what it said.
    -
Aijin smiled brightly. "Wow! That's pretty cool!" He couldn't help thinking how useful that would be. But, well, if it meant losing his sight, then he'd pass it up. He didn't want to lose his sight--it'd feel as if he were in darkness 24/7 and he did not want to think what would happen after a day or two of that.

The priest, apparently named Jadon, waited quietly for a while before suggesting quietly, "at least tell us your name. Then perhaps we can properly address each other." It didn't matter if they knew his name, right? "...you trust me, right?"

Both the reverend and the priest did not seem to have much reaction, although the priest did seem a little surprised that the face was female and not male. Then again, it had been quite hard to tell with the hood on...
Jadon smiled brightly and chuckled a little, too. "I see why you were so uncomfortable with me carrying you, now!" He said cheerily. "I apologize for handling you so roughly, perhaps I should've considered that you'd be unwilling to be carried." He stopped laughing, now just looking at this Sage with a gentle smile on his face. "Well, Sage, welcome to our humble church. May God bless you and forever shine a light on your path."

Reverend Hassen looked at Jadon, confused. Jadon quickly explained the uprising against the government to the elder man, gesturing quite a few times toward Sage. Reverend Hassen soon began nodding, then he looked up at Sage and said, "We will not fight ourselves, as we would probably just hinder you, but this church has some grudges against this government. They do not allow us to speak prayers loudly, so we must all crowd around the front podium like an elementary school class. It is not comfortable, in all truth."
Jadon looked up at Sage. "What Reverend Hassen is trying to say is that we have a bone to pick with the government, as well. And since we provide entirely for ourselves, we are pretty strong so we have a small legion of soldiers. For protection reasons, like in the event that a cult tries to burn the church down." Jadon looked as if there were something he weren't saying. The Reverend waved his hand slightly, as if telling him to go on, but Jadon stayed silent.

Jadon smiled brightly. "Nope. Nothing else. There are minor details but they're not important..." he trailed off, the signature bright smile of his diminishing. It wasn't anything bad, I suppose. It wasn't any life-or-death information. But they'd find out when it was most important.
    Just not now.
But, he had noticed Martha's movements. "Anything wrong?" He asked, looking worried.
    -
Matthew seemed disapproving of the choice to keep the "minor details" a secret. He shrugged on the inside, thinking that this boy could do whatever he wanted with the information he had, and turned to the back room again. "I'm going to go get the cleaning supplies. It's your turn to wipe down the windows, Jadon, so don't take too long."
With that he headed off to the back room, a dusty storage area. They didn't sleep here. They had their own families to return to. But in case of anything, the basement was always available and clean. "Wiping down the windows" seemed to be an easy, quick job, but in truth the person who did that chore also had to rearrange everything downstairs and make sure that everything was kept clean. A long job, and it was quite boring. But for the faithful, the church help any way they could.

"Indeed." Carrie sighed. "I do see why he wants to get the cure for the Silver Splinter. But really, what could I do...?" Putting her hand on her forehead she let the note drop back to where it was supposed to be, who it was supposed to be for.
"Ah, on that topic, what would my parents think about this?" They weren't with her anymore, since they had divorced and she had been dragged along with her mother. She never liked her mother. Her father, apparently, was living quite nicely now. Her mother had died due to disease when she had just graduated. Collage had been hard... Life had been hard...
"I don't think my parents would even care." She concluded solemnly.

"Heh," Carrie smiled sadly. "I wish they would come back. Dad, at least. He was always nicer than Mom. But whichever one would at least help me a little right now, I'd love to have by my side."
Stretching slightly to one side, the blonde-haired girl let out a long breath and rubbed her eyes. She looked at her watch. "It's three in the morning. I want to go get some sleep. Don't get caught, guys." Yawning, she began walking back toward her house. "If any of you turn up in the lab, I'm not gonna free you."

After arriving at her house, she locked the door, slammed the window closed and fell down onto her bed, exhausted. She hadn't even taken off her boots, yet. "Man... what a crazy day..." with a long yawn, she closed her eyes and soon fell asleep in her jacket and boots.

Jadon laughed. "Perhaps not. But will this?" He turned around and put his hands around his mouth to amplify the sound. "Kia! Come on, we have visitors!"
Another man, apparently named Kia, jumped out from where the basement door seemed to be. "A visitor? Why do you need me for a visitor?" He looked pretty normal, with his messy blonde hair and the standard black robe for priests. But when he moved...
He was at Sage's side in the blink of an eye. "A girl? What's she here for? Services are over for the day." Jadon grinned. "She's a rebel. She wants to destroy the government, I think."
Kia then grinned the exact same way that Jadon did. They could have been brothers. "Well, then. It's good that you have a former military general here, isn't it?"
    -
Matthew looked behind himself and saw Martha. "What do you need?" He asked, smiling a little. He wasn't sure why this girl has chosen to follow him, since he was probably the last person you'd go to when it called for a fight. But Martha might not be looking for a fighter...

Nanji stuck his hands in his pockets and sighed, looking around. Whatever they are... I don't care. I just want to find someone and get out of here! "Hello?! Is there anyone here?" He cried this loudly, looking around in all directions. This just made him feel more helpless, and after hesitantly taking a few steps, he just gave up and sat down where he was. Something brushed up against his fingers...
He removed the deck of cards from his pocket and laughed slightly. "Wow. They're still here," he whispered to himself with a smile. "It makes me feel a bit better to see these guys..." fanning out all his cards, he looked over them, relaxing as all the memories of his wins and losses with these came flooding back. Hey, that's the one that won him entrance to that championship! And the one who put up such a good fight...
    -
Erisma soon saw what seemed to be a door. Well, less of a door, more of a movable wall. She wandered over and shoved at it until she could fit through the gap. "Jade, there's something here!" She shouted, waving her arms. "Jade! Jade! It's a doorway of some sort!"
She wondered what was on the other side, but she wasn't going to stick her head in without Jade's approval. She had learned her lesson--never stick your nose where it's not welcomed, and trust Jade's intuition.
    -
Jade turned around and ran to Erisma and the door. "I wonder where this leads to..." and without hesitation, she slipped through the small opening and into the next room, looking back at Erisma, who squished in after her, mumbling about something not being fair.
Jade could sense danger here. A big danger, lurking far away. She couldn't tell how far, but she unsheathed her sword just in case. Urgh, this is what I hate about this place... my sixth sense seems muffled by all these walls. They block out everything...

Zachary stood up and dusted himself off, glaring momentarily at Charles. He stopped as he realized that it definitely wasn't worth it, and he was just glad he was alive. "That--" pointing to the hail. "broke through the top floor window. I managed to get down here with Charles and not die in the process."
He was pretty surprised that he hadn't fainted, but he just shrugged it off as the adrenaline pouring through his body and shivered slightly at the thought of what would've happened if he hadn't been able to ace the railslide.
    -
Amar sighed a long, dejected sigh. "You need to stop getting into messes, Zachary. Sooner or later you're gonna find yourself in something you can't get out of." He hoped it was later, but with Zachary's luck, it was most likely going to be sooner. "Anyway, we're alright, Aomame. If you were worried, then there's no need. Everyone here is perfectly fine."
He had half the mind to worry about the ones who hadn't been there when he had walked in, which added up to Holo, Jade, Mr. Holland and Jeanne. He assumed they were okay at this point. Maybe.
    -
Maybe indeed. Right now, Jade was unsure of what exactly to feel, Jeanne's arm restraining her and this strange copy of her spurting all these strange words that sounded like alien language to her. Not that she couldn't understand some pretty alien-sounding languages, but this one she just didn't process.
"What do you want, anyway?" She asked quietly, confused beyond confusion.
    -
Jeanne turned to Jade, wondering what she was getting at. "Jade, I'll ask questions. This one knows me, how I was supposed to feel, everything about it. I'll get further asking questions to her than you will." This earned her an icy glare, but Jade didn't speak further.
In truth, Jeanne just wanted to wait to see what would happen. She wondered what this one wanted, too. She couldn't tell from her words or actions, and right now, she had two ways to find out--one, ask her. Two, find someone who she could ask. Fighting wouldn't help, it would only result in something that she didn't want happening.
I wonder where Jay is. It was a momentary thought, but it struck home. Jay. He brought them here. Where is he now?

"Alright! Then it looks like we're gonna need Alexander too, when the job is done." Kia chuckled. "Hey, Alex, there's a girl out here who wants to reform the government! Get up here already!" the blonde-haired man shouted cheerfully, putting his arms on Sage's head and leaning forward slightly.
Much slower than Kia had, another man appeared, wearing a pair of circular spectacles and carrying a bucket filled with water. There was a mop in the bucket, leaning on his shoulder. "Kia, what is it now? I have floor duty today. It's going to take a while and I want to get started as soon as possible." His manner was much colder than Kia's, but he seemed nice enough, with just a hint of a probably annoyed smile on his face.
    -
Thinking that this must've been the third or fourth time that he had done this, Jadon gestured to Sage and said, "she's a rebel, she wants to reform the government and such. We're not asking you to participate in the fight, Alexander, but we do ask for your assistance when the scuffle is over with remaking the laws and such." He said this in a pretty speedy manner, as if he couldn't be bothered with all the details. Alexander gave a look that showed he disapproved of this way of speaking, since he liked having all the facts there were, but he nodded and said, "I'll help with the battle strategy, too. There has to be someone conducting this, or else you'll all be slain by those corrupted souls."
    -
Matthew smiled slightly, seeing that the girl was having some issues with her heart's desires and her mind's duties. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, as if he were her father. Which, in a way, he was. Under God's hand, they were all family.
"Follow your heart, Martha. As long as it is right in your mind and it does not lead to an sinful end, you will have the strength to carry out whatever you wish." He chose his words carefully as well. He didn't want her helping out and getting hurt, but he didn't want her to watch the government overpower the church and have the thought that she could've done something to help. Whatever path would lead her to the one of least despair and least regret, he would like her to choose it. So she'd have to choose by herself.

"Keep... talking?" Nanji seemed confused at this. "Um... I'm over here! I think I'm in the middle of the cave. There are walls on both sides of me, but I can't touch both of them at once!" In the frantic speech, Nanji dropped his deck and yelped loudly. "Oh no!" He exclaimed, despair shot through his panicked voice. He started picking the cards up, feeling around for any missing ones. He counted them all as he picked them up. 41, 42, 43... wait, here's three more! 46, 47, 48, 49... two more. "Only two more." He said absently, feeling around for the last two.
    -
Jade knocked against the walls loudly, not even bothering to be quiet. If there's something out to kill us, let it come out! I'm ready for it, and I'm tired of waiting! She was impatient. And without her sixth sense, she only became more impatient the longer she waited. If she knew where the enemy was, then it'd ease her up a little. But right now, she was practically asking for a fight.
"Hey!" And as if that wasn't enough, she began yelling, too. "If you want to fight me, then get out here! I have no idea where you are, and I'm wide open!"
    -
Erisma just stared at Jade blankly, with her mouth hanging out. What's Jade doing? Has she gone crazy? Should I bail? were strangely the first three thoughts to come to her head. Well, they weren't that strange, but her answers were crazy, in a way that showed her trust for Jade was definite.
Jade knows what she's doing, even if I don't. She's not crazy, I just need to think harder. I'm staying right here! Not gonna run away! Even if I'm scared out of my wits! So, Erisma stood there and just sort of awkwardly waited for something to most likely jump out of the dark and kill her.
