Firegaze saw that she was about to start talking as she looked down at the ground, just as he had done.
“Well, it started when I was a kit. I guess when I was two months- or moons in Clan-time- old, my father, a black panther alchemist, cast a curse on me, giving me a demonic side of myself. He scored a terrible wound into my neck, and black smoke constricted my heart, turning half of it evil.” Trinity hung her head low, so Firegaze could see slightly red gouge taken out of the back of her neck. He bristled at the sight of it, feeling a rush of fury towards this panther. How could anyone do such a thing to his sweet Trinity...he paused. Did he really just think that? He didn't deny that he felt feelings for the cat, but just now he had felt such a fierce urge to protect her, avenge her...it was all so strange...
“He tried to get me to kill my mother, Crystal, but I guess I was too newly transformed, so I still had control over my demonic side. He left, and months later, a terrible drought came to our land. But Snap- what I call my demonic side- led me to a hidden lake in our land. That’s when I knew it wasn’t entirely evil. But still…” Trinity trailed off, remembering all too well her first murder.
“When I was around seven months old, my mother let me go out hunting by myself for the first time. I ran into our forest and my mother and I leave scent markers around our stretch of land- something she picked up from the Clan cats I guess- and I stayed within those. But I picked up another animals scent. It turned out to be another cat, and it was stealing our prey! Anger triggers Snap, and that’s what happened. I completely mauled the cat; you couldn’t even tell what color fur or eyes they had anymore. Terrified of what I’d done, I ran away, back home, and told Crystal I could never hunt again.” Trinity finished. She looked so frightened that Firegaze just wanted to console her, tell her it's okay and that she doesn't have to talk about it anymore, but he knew she had to. She had to get everything out, just as he had and live through many painful moments in her past. As horrified as he was about how brutal Snap seemed, he didn't feel any resentment towards Trinity at all. She couldn't control it...unlike himself. He killed by choice, nothing evil drove him other than his own mind.
“I killed many more after that, and I feared for my mother’s safety. So I set out to find my father, Rown, so I could hopefully get him to break the curse. But, instead, he told me he was my father- I hadn’t known he was before- and told me how much he hated Crystal. Terrified, I ran back home, only to find Rown slaughtering my mother. That’s when I began on my journey to who-knows-where. And that time I stared at you as if all the badgers, foxes, and dogs in the world had appeared, it was because I had a vision of Rown killing you the same way he had my mother, and he had said, ‘You are destined to lose all you grow to love…’ And when I first smelled the yew on your paws, I thought of maybe eating some myself. I mean, I was starting to enjoy killing, the taste of other animals’ blood, the feeling of flesh ripping under my claws, the look of fear in their eyes…” She shook herself, clearing the evil grin and hungry look on her face. Firegaze noticed the grin and felt a slight shiver down his spine but shook it away. He was still in a rage about Rown. He didn't know how anyone could want to hurt Trinity, especially her own father. Rown seemed 100 times more evil than Sharptail, though Sharptail was bad, even he had his limits. Rown didn't seem to have any in the slightest. He deserved to be clawed....
Firegaze didn't really process the whole, "Rown killing him in a vision" thing, deciding to just brush that one off. He couldn't afford to fear this animal. Not when it meant he might need to save Trinity from him. Besides, another thing was stuck in his mind right now. ‘You are destined to lose all you grow to love…’ Did that mean she was going to love him? Or maybe already did? The thought made his pelt go warm and his thoughts all floating, which immediately crashed after hearing she had wanted to kill herself. Yes, he had wanted to as well but he was still horrified a the thought of her doing it. He wouldn't let her if she ever thought of it again, that was for sure. No matter how much a cat got used to death, killing, enjoying it...it just don't justify. If he had been in his right mind when he had the yew, he would've known better, maybe.
“But, you may not believe what I’m about to tell you next, but that’s your choice. When I say I have a demonic side, I mean I turn into a cat skeleton, with eyes like an endless gorge, glowing red in their depths, with large metal claws, and deadly sharp teeth. And I pick up my father’s abilities to torture one’s mind and cast illusions. So I could make it feel and look as if acid were pouring out of your mouth, but in reality, you are still perfectly fine, even you still feel the pain.” Trinity shivered. She was right though, Firegaze did have a hard time believing that, however he didn't doubt that it was possible. After all, he saw dead ancestors and his leaders receive nine lives. That's pretty weird too. Snap was a very scary kind of weird, but Firegaze could accept that. He just needed to keep Trinity calm, sounds easier than it probably is, but he would do anything to protect her. He gazed at her for a moment, his eyes demanding to see hers. He padded closer to her, closing the distance between them and rested his head on top of hers.
"I'm not going anywhere Trinity. I can promise you that. Whatever horrors our past chases us with, we'll be fighting them together." He purred quietly.
====================================
Sharptail kept his chin raised, even as he saw the minions rise. What kind of creature is this? he wondered. He was a little worried, but if Rown wanted to be an ally of his, well then that would be quite beneficial. So what if he had to kill some she-cat, as long as he could get to Firegaze....
"Sure, I wouldn't mind teaming up with you. Just makes everything all the easier." With his response, his gang padded up behind him, showing that they would follow him. Though their eyes still remained uneasy as they looked as Rown and his minions. They had no clue what they were dealing with.
