They nodded slowly. "We gave her up long ago." They answered suspiciously. My eyes widened and my mouth dropped. "My name is Scarlet Jones. I am your daughter."

I didn't talk to my parents much. They just explained the basics of the land and the elves. They took me to their home, and after a long moment of silence, I decided to ask them a question. "Why did you leave me in the human world?" I whispered. They hesitated before talking in a smooth accent. British. Pssh. "Well, it's complicated. It wasn't safe here at the time." What an excuse, am I right? Ugh! I couldn't stand it! I wanted to know!
