At least this time she ignored him. "Make sure to get me if you need me," Syrinx finally mumbled. She was sure Michibelle, who didn't allow herself to be weak, could handle the toms without her. She was the one who seemed to be failing at it.
Syrinx held her tail high as she turned and padded out of the den, but she certainly didn't feel it. She felt like she failed, and she was hoping some fresh air and time to think outside the den for a little while would be enough to get her back on her paws again.
The mentor watched Bubblepaw catch the mouse with ease, and he jumped to his paws with pride. Yes! He had made a break through with his apprentice! He knew he would have eventually. It just took a different kind of teaching. "Good job!" He meowed proudly.
Of course, then his apprentice took a step back. He looked at the apprentice oddly, only because he had never seen another cat name a mouse instead of plan on eating it. "Ah... you kill it?" That was the most obvious answer. Crimsonclaw looked at his own mouse. "So you can add it to the fresh kill pile," he added.
She giggled and Owlhunter couldn't help but smile in amusement himself. Something about pretty cats giggling was a plus for him, but more for his own personal gain than anything else. Usually giggles were just as cute as they were pretty. "A pleasure," he meowed, bowing his head respectfully. What a fitting name too. She may be white now, but he was sure that at night she would be silver; so silver that even the moon would be envious.
"Owlhunter," he replied as though it were a sudden after thought. He was so distracted he hadn't even realized he hadn't given his name yet.
Now, if he knew about tom's always judging her he would have been full of anger. No cat should judge others. It was a firm belief of his, only because he did not want to be judged, and because judging brought on hate. Why hate a cat who was a certain color or came from a different clan simply for those reasons. Many cats could have been friends if it weren't for that pesky prejudice. It caused nothing but trouble.
He had never seen a cat let loose it's prey before. Crimsonclaw was stumped watching his apprentice tell the mouse to be free. He named it Smallpaw? Was the only real thing he could think past the immediate shock. Carefully he decided to keep himself numb from all of this. He was afraid that if he let himself feel anything, it would probably be anger.
Bubblepaw was difficult. He was staarting to wonder if he could possibly be the right mentor for him.
"Nothing. It's just how the world works here." The mouse was born a mouse and therefore had drawn the short end of the stick and become prey. "Now, unless you want to live on grass and seeds I suggest you start thinking like a hunter," he meowed sternly.
However, something soft entered the cat's eyes and voice as Bubblepaw looked up at him so sadly. "If it helps, you can give thanks to the other Smallpaw's you catch, and then eat all of it. Than at least his life would not have been worthless?"
I can't think of anything...
Why is real life so expensive!? ><
Lunarpaw wanted to see the river. She hated winter time because she couldn't go swimming in it without freezing her fur off. She padded through the reeds by the bank of it, sniffing the cold and fresh smell of leaf bare all around her.
She didn't even see the other cat until she looked up, jumping almost two feet with her claws out and her fur ruffled, before realizing who it was. Suddenly she laughed, fur flattening back to normal instantly. "I feel like such a fool!" She meowed.
Of course, her reaction was expected. The last time she came upon a strange cat, she had nearly been killed. The smell of RiverClan scent was probably what saved the other cat from a flying furry of silver fur.
Syrinx followed after the crowfood, to make sure they all came to the meeting place without any problems or delay. Only after she was confident they would stay put did she pad her way closer to the hill. The white and orange tabby sat down with her tail curled around her paws, waiting expectantly to hear what Pixie had to say.
"Ah well..." Owlhunter shrugged a little. What could he say when another cat commented on his name really? Well, besides the obvious, "thank you." If she were to ask, he probably would have told her that her name was not only nice, but very fitting. Kind of like his name, in a way. His name made it sound like he hunted owls rather than it applying to his silent paw steps though. Could be worse he supposed.
Distracted was a good word for it. His own eyes seemed to brighten from the inside as his pleasure with talking to her increased. It was enough to help him ignore the colder air that blew against his black and white coat. "Tell me, what tom wouldn't be distracted by a cat who looks like she came walking right out of the moon?" And no, he wasn't saying it just to woo her. He was being completely honest.
Probably going to get him in trouble these days, his fascination with beauty and his habit of being honest. "I'm a mouse brain for the night sky anyway. There's something about the stars and the moon that seems to make my heart feel... full." He took a deep breath of the cold air around them before getting to his paws again. "Anything that makes me think of the moon or the stars really," he meowed as an after thought.
OOC: I just had to tell you that I love the way you write!
IC: The black and white tom stepped carefully through the grasses, his paws as silent as the bird of prey he was named after, and his forest green eyes watchful of his new apprentice. Grass caressed the fur along his belly as he came to a halt with one paw stretched out in front of him, and the others bunched up underneath his lean body; ready to spring into action.
His apprentice didn't need him though. Owlhunter relaxed his posture and stood up, looking proud of him. How could he not be proud? The young apprentice was doing perfectly well on his own. Granted, he should probably scold him or something for not waiting instruction or whatever, but Owlhunter didn't have the effort to be all grumpy. Instead he padded over to his apprentice with his ears pricked foreword and his tail swinging in a graceful and friendly wag.
"Jeeze! You're so good at this I doubt you'll need me to teach you anything!" He teased in a mew. The older cat padded through the frozen grass that cracked underneath his paws like glass, until he was in front of his apprentice. The smell of rabbit was saturating the air and making Owlhunter's mouth water. It was a nice rabbit too, for leaf bare. It hadn't had the chance to get thin and leggy yet.
"Good job," he meowed as an after thought, "great posture."
It was easy to read his apprentice's change in mood. "You can't be like that..." He told the other cat smoothly. He nudged the mouse closer to his apprentice with his nose. "Taste this." Yes, it was clan first when it came to prey, but Crimsonclaw was beginning to understand that he needed to show Bubblepaw how to do things before expecting him to do it.
He pushed it closer before he padded off towards a bush and ripped off one of the branches with his teeth. He made a face as he dropped it, licking his lips with distaste. "Only after you try this." Maybe then he would understand.
He looked up at the sky as Silverpelt mentioned StarClan. Yes, he had heard of that as well. He believed it too. He took longer to drop his eyes back to the cat in front of him. When he did, his eyes went from warm and friendly, to flaming with anger. "Those tom's are idiots then!" He hissed lowly, matching her tone of frustration.
His curiosity peaked as she continued despite his own outburst. He found himself wondering about this Claw she was talking about. He knew better than to ask though. Instead he sighed with her. "Usually when a cat pokes a claw at you, there are three more claws poking back at them," he meowed finally. "I can tell you're none of those things just by talking to you for a couple of minutes."
He smiled happily to her, glad to give her something nice to hear, rather than remember what all those tom's told her in her past. And now she was going to compliment him. His ears twitched in interest as he waited expectantly for her to finish. And when she did he purred in happy amusement. "Well, thank you.... for the nice comment!" And yes, he mimicked her in a playful mew.
"See?" Crimsonclaw meowed. Now he looked smug. "Tastes good doesn't it?"
OOC: I know! It's so cute~
IC: He purred as she laughed, smirking in a mischievous way. He probably had another playful remark, but it was cut off as she stood up. He waited to see what she was going to tell him, and was glad he did. "Of course!" Owlhunter meowed happily. He would love to go do something with Silverpelt. She had this air around her that was very calm and enjoyable.
Then he remembered all the prey that he had caught. His ears folded a little as he glanced back towards the camp. "I'll have to take the prey back to the fresh kill pile first," he told her. And then he made a face. Mostly because he had a lot of prey that needed to go and that was going to take a lot of trips. Ugh... that was going to take so much effort...
Her excitement was rubbing off of him though, and it was giving the semi-lazy tom more energy. He turned his head to look over at her as Silverpelt sat beside him, tail starting a slow wag over the ground in that friendly kind of way. "I think something as simple as a walk with you would be exciting," he meowed truthfully.
This... apprentice was so backwards that Crimsonclaw was beginning to doubt he was doing anything right anymore. "You..." He threw up a mouse... what kind of cat threw up mouse!? Crimsonclaw looked at Bubblepaw in disbelief. "Are you a vegetarian now?" He couldn't stop himself from blurting.
He lifted a paw and let her rub her head against his, blinking happily at her. "Ah! Thank you!" Hearing that she would help was one of the best things for a semi-lazy cat. He quickly got to his paws and padded after her to his pile. Her playful tone made him smirk again. "I'll hold you to that," he warned. After all, he did have a competitive side too.
Owlhunter picked up as much as he could in his mouth, and then nodded. He couldn't reply with his mouth stuffed with rabbits and other prey. So instead he gestured with a flick of his tail where he was going to go and quickly trotted off towards the camp.
Considering his namesake, he probably should have. "Yes well... I was teaching you the importance of listening to your surroundings!" He decided to cover himself. Of course, the amused look in his eyes probably gave him away.
"Hmmm, that smells good~" Owlhunter mewed as he sat down. He glanced around the frozen earth with some interest before looking back at his apprentice again. "You're welcome."
On to training. Might as well let the apprentice choose. He hated learning things he didn't want to learn, so if Horizonpaw wasn't interested then he would hate learning it too. "Now! Since you're already so good at hunting, would you like to practice fighting or would you like to see our territory?"
"Lunarpaw!" She replied happily. "And you can't be a fool for sitting by the river." Lunarpaw turned to it with a whimsical look on her face. "I love the river. That's why I came here actually."
