Rhanokai cringed down, his eyes wide. He had never seen anything like that before. He was frozen in his terror.

He gave a yowl of fright and bounded out of the ghost's reach.

Rhanokai purred, noticing this hidden gesture, but he didn't say anything about it. He saw down and curled his tail over his paws. "My mother showed this place to me," he meowed, his voice drifting off into memories as he gave Ice a sideways glance. "She brought be and my sister here when we were just kits."

He began to relax when he realized she was going to answer him. "Oh," he meowed carefully. "Is she well? Silverkit, I mean?" he shuffled his paws awkwardly. What if she wasn't?

Rhanokai heard Showfur's voice, and turned towards it, desperate for any help. "Hello!" he cried. "Someone, please! Help!"

Sorrow pulsed off the orange tom's pelt. He wasn't sure what he'd have done if his mother had died before he had gotten to know her. He touched his tail briefly to the she-cat's ear before flicking it away as a sign of comfort. "My mother is dead, too," he meowed evenly. "She was killed by a mountain lion trying to protect me and my sister."
