Icefire, a white WindClan she-cat with amber eyes, stalked into the treacherous corn. She smelt a Twoleg barbecue going on, and water filled her mouth at the thoughts of sinking her teeth into every kind of meat there could be. Maybe I should bring some back to the fresh-kill pile back at the WindClan camp? she thought. Or maybe they won't touch any of it because it's been handled by Twolegs. More for me, then! She wouldn't mind eating any Twoleg barbecue food, as long as it wasn't poisoned. But she definitely would NOT eat any kittypet food. As she wandered farther into the corn, she heard a dog barking. A dog! Icefire certainly wasn't in the mood for taking on or running from dogs right now, that was for sure! She desperately wanted to get to the barbecue meat first.

Icefire ignored the dog's barking and ran farther and farther into the corn field. "Stupid dog, you won't get me." she muttered to herself. She got tired and laid down to rest. I've got to get to the barbecue, she thought desperately. Suddenly, the barking grew louder and closer. A mottled-brown head soon poked out of the cornstalks, with bared teeth and angry yellow eyes. "Fox-dung!" she spat. She had to think quickly! Icefire saw an ear of corn lying on the ground. I'll bat that at the dog to distract it, and I'll run away as fast as I can! she thought wittingly. Icefire reached for the ear of corn and swiped it at the dog. It hit the dog in the eye, blurring its vision for seconds and whimpering. Icefire bolted away from the dog, but she was so focused on running away that she didn't notice that she was running away from the scent of the barbecue!

Icefire then realized that she was running away from the scent. So she ran back the way she came until the scent was strong again. She heard the barking of the angry dog, but then also scented a sick kit. She came closer to the scent, until she came to two cats {Flashflood and Syrru}. "What happened?" she mewed worriedly. The dog's ferocious barking drew closer. Icefire's paws froze into the ground. What if the dog sprung at the sick kit? She wouldn't be able to get away fast! she thought worriedly.

Icefire glanced down at the kit worriedly. Suddenly, the same brown dog shot out of the corn straight at them! Icefire flung herself in front of Syrru, slashing at the dog's muzzle. The dog growled angrily, then lunged again. As Icefire tried to bat the dog off, she thought concernedly(or whatever that word is), I can't fight like this forever. The kit will have to at least try to get away.

Icefire lashed out long, sharp claws and hooked the dog in the eye. The dog howled greatly in pain as it tried to get away, but she still clung on. "You giant piece of Twoleg fox-dung!" she spat at the dog. She let go of the dog, a giant bloody gash wound where its eye used to be. It kept howling in pain. Its one other good eye gave her a long, cold yellow glare, then the dog bolted off. "Phew," panted Icefire.

Icefire then thought back to the fact that Syrru had eaten some of the Twoleg barbecue food. Maybe it has that effect only on kits, she thought. Maybe it won't do anything to me. She desperately wanted to get to the barbecue, but first she felt that she had to stay and make sure this kit would be okay.
    6

"Good." Icefire smiled. She now had confidence that the Twoleg food wouldn't make her sick. "Well, I'll be on my way," she meowed to Flashflood and Syrru. She started off into the corn again. "StarClan be with you!" she mewed to them before dissapearing into the corn.

Icefire padded further and further into the corn. The scent of the Twoleg barbecue was stronger, but then it was cut off by a familiar but sickening, burning scent. "Fox-dung," Icefire muttered. "One of those ugly, stupid, mouse-brained Twoleg corn monsters."
Suddenly, an unnatural shiny green pelt burst out of the corn straight toward her. It ran over and plowed over corn that was in its way. "Great StarClan!" Icefire exclaimed. She quickly bolted out of the noisy Twoleg corn monster's way. Icefire spat "Giant piece of noisy fox-dung!" and bolted toward the Twoleg barbecue scent.

As Icefire bolted toward the mouth-watering scent, two more dogs showed up in her way. They were small, all right, but they were yappy. They had strings around their necks which tied them to some sort of Twoleg object that Icefire didn't recognize. She thought it was mousebrained to tie them up like this in the middle of a cornfield. Though they yapped their little heads off at her, Icefire ignored them and kept moving. She came to a clearing with a bunch of Twoleg kits playing around with dogs, some adult Twolegs sitting around speaking to each other. Icefire licked her lips as she spotted some meat layed out on a Twoleg object with a flat surface and sticks, or whatever Twoleg objects, held it up. But how am I supposed to get to the food without being noticed? She thought.
    10

Suddenly, one of the small dogs that the Twoleg kits were playing with noticed her and went yapping after her. Great StarClan! Stupid dogs! she thought with an irritated tone. Then, which made matters worse, one of the Twoleg kits noticed her too, and soon, all of the Twoleg kits went chasing after her. She ran away from them as fast as she could. And then, the most unfortunate event happened: A Twoleg, not exactly an adult or a kit, scooped her up. "StarClan help me!" she yowled as she struggled to get out of the Twoleg's grasp. With the obnoxious and annoying Twoleg kits following the one that carried her, accompanied by the stupid yapping dog that noticed her, they headed toward an elderly Twoleg. It reached out to pet Icefire on the head. Icefire did not hiss or bite, in fact, she was frozen with fear. "StarClan, where are you?" she mewed desperately.
    11

Then, the Twoleg that was holding Icefire, set her down. She was about to bolt away from them when she noticed that a Twoleg kit reached for the Twoleg object that held the mouth-watering meat. It picked up a piece of the meat and set it down in front of Icefire. Do they want me to eat it? she thought. Oh, this is splendid! Twolegs aren't so bad after all. So she then bent down to eat the meat. As her mouth met the meat, a sensationally delightful taste met her mouth at the same time. "My great StarClan, this is so delicious!" she purred happily. Icefire noticed that the Twoleg kit that gave her the meat seemed happy, too, in its own way, and the rest of them looked happy.

The little yappy dog that noticed Icefire suddenly lost its control and bolted at Icefire, snapping its little jaws onto her tail. She yowled in pain. Icefire then heard some angry Twoleg howls break out, and one of them grabbed the dog and pulled it away from her. The Twoleg hissed something to the dog, which seemed to make the dog quiet, for once, and behave. The Twoleg then scooped up the dog and carried it away. It headed for a Twoleg monster that sat on the other side of the clearing. The Twoleg opened its belly and put the irritating dog inside, then shut the belly closed again. Thank StarClan, Icefire thought gratefully.

Silversong heard the fight, and raced over. to Icefire. "ICEFIRE! you okay?"

"I'm fine," she mewed back to Silversong. "That was just one of those stupid dogs being irritating."

Icefire noticed the Twoleg come back. It seemed that it was saying calming things to her, though she couldn't understand what it was saying. She wish she could tell it the same as she told to Silversong.

Icefire longed for another piece of the delicious meat from, which she guessed, the Twoleg's fresh-kill pile. But the Twolegs didn't give her any more. Well, they just threw her little bits and pieces, mainly of fat, a little bit of bone, but she really wanted another big, juicy piece of meat. When the Twolegs weren't paying any attention [they had their attention focused on their Twoleg kits], she leaped up on the Twoleg object and snatched a whole chicken! Icefire knew if she were spotted, the Twolegs would be thundering after her, but StarClan must have had their gaze on Icefire, because no Twoleg seemed to notice her snatch the chicken. She started for the corn when a Twoleg howl broke out, followed by a whole chorus of angry Twoleg bellows, and they stormed after poor Icefire. I guess this is what I get for breaking the warrior code! she thought, panicked.
    15

Suddenly a familiar scent struck Icefire. A wolf? she thought. She turned to see a wolf leaping and snarling at the Twolegs. StarClan really is watching me after all! she thought. She decided to sit down and watch; she admired wolves, she thought they were the most magnificent creatures of the forest. she'd seen them on WindClan terrirory before, hunting rabbits, or chasing off mangy dogs.
