"Hmm." Vivian leaned back in her seat, considering this information. Then she blinked and smiled. "Well, it seems like your childhood was quite interesting, at least! Did you always know you'd be going to Hogwarts when you were older?" She was relaxing more now, drawing one leg up onto the seat and leaning against the window. Her eyes, too, were less stony and their grey had become much warmer. Maybe I was too quick to assume I wouldn't like this girl. She thought, almost guiltily.

Vivian turned. "Oh, this is Mercury. Named after the Roman messenger god." She smiled. "I don't know about witches and wizards, but I went to a muggle school before I found out. I always liked mythology. Egyptian, Greek, Roman-- anything that wasn't ours, really." She stuck a few fingers through the bars of the barn owl's cage and stroked his feathers.

Vivian laughed. "No, owls are definitely not a normal pet for muggles. People usually have, you know, cats and dogs and stuff. I convinced my parents to let me get him when I was buying the rest of my stuff in Diagon Alley, mostly by telling them it's be their only way of contacting me since muggle post won't reach it." She withdrew her fingers from the cage. "I wanted a snake too, since I can talk to them and my parents had no choice to believe that I could after I got the letter, but my mom was too scared and my dad pointed out the letter said you could only bring an owl, cat, or toad anyway."

Vivian grinned. "Yeah, maybe." She turned her head as their compartment door opened. Her parents hadn't really given her any extra money, just a little in case she needed stuff for school, and she knew they wouldn't approve... But she'd never had any wizarding sweets before, and her parents needn't know about it. It couldn't hurt to get just a few different things, to try them out, right?

"Umm..." Vivian tilted her head. "What would you recommend? For someone who's never had wizarding candy before I mean." She laughed a little. "But I can't spend too much, or my parents will be mad." She counted out the small amount of coins she'd allotted from her money.

((I'm watching ouran high school host club as per your request, my replies might be more intermittent))

((heh just finished the first episode. this is hilarious))

Vivian nodded. "Okay then, I'll have a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans and a couple chocolate frogs." She paid for the sweets and sat back down, examining the box of jelly beans. There did seem to be a lot of oddly colored beans in there. She held opened the box and held one up to the light, raising an eyebrow skeptically.

OOC: im kinda getting the feeling that the main protagonist is a bit gay lol. xD but im guessing she ends up with mr blonde dude. sigh.

IC: Vivian laughed. "Guess there's no other way to find out." She popped the red bean into her mouth and chewed thoughtfully. Her nose wrinkled and she swallowed. "Radish? I think?" She eyed the box again, then shrugged and took another.

ooc: this is true but it is also true that in the last episode she kissed a girl and didn't mind
and yeah it's called a "time skip" so we can do that if you'd like and jump to the sorting or whatever

ic: Vivian continued eating the jelly beans, occasionally pulling a face when she came across an oddly flavored one. She also opened her chocolate frog cards, and was delighted by the cards. The information fascinated her, and their subject's ability to move and even leave their cards left her in even more awe of the magical world than she'd been before.

ooc: yup, what you did was fine!

ic: Vivian jumped to her feet as the train slowed down and peered intensely out the window. "I think I can see the lights in the castle windows! Up there." She pointed, turning to look at Alida with excitement in her eyes. "It looks amazing..."

Vivian glanced back at her owl, wondering if he counted as luggage, then saw most other students had left their pets as well, so she quickly followed Alida. The corridor was packed and so was the platform, a swarm of students pushing and shoving in every direction. "Where do we go?" Vivian asked, sticking close to Alida. She almost had to shout to be heard over the chatter from the other students.

OOC: So now we have to decide what to do about teachers! Since it's a century or so later most of them wouldn't be the same, realistically, unless we're going with the whole "wizards live longer" type thing. We could just make them all the same for simplicity's sake, or we could spend some time making up some new characters for each role or just some of them! :3 It's up to you, I'm fine with anything!

Vivian eyed the woman with mild interest. A teacher? She must be, or she wouldn't be gathering all the first years up, but she would have thought the teachers would all be in robes. Other than her dragonhide boots, this woman was distinctly un-wizardish. Maybe a muggleborn like herself? Vivian turned and raised her eyebrows at Alida, before leading the way to join the crush of other first years.

Vivian was staring across the water, mesmerized by the reflection of the castle lights. She blinked and turned around to look at Alida. "I guess so." She shrugged. "Let's hurry so we can get in a boat together." She scrambled down the bank towards the shore where all the boats were lined up. Grabbing one, she steadied it and clambered in. There was a lantern hanging on one end of it, and she used its light to peer down into the inky water. It was hard to see anything, even where it was shallow.

OOC: Okay I might change some of the Slytherins later

IC: Vivian ignored the other two girls in their boat and stared down into the water. Once she thought she saw a flicker of movement, but it was gone before she could confirm it was anything more than the slight waves rippling across the lake's surface. The castle drew steadily nearer and nearer, larger and larger, until it towered over them. Vivian had to crane her neck to look up at the towers. "Amazing." She breathed.

Vivian laughed. "Given that we're in an enchanted castle, I'm sure it can." She replied, taking the steps two at a time so she could keep near the front of the group, even on her short legs. She didn't want to miss anything, after all.

Vivian stood with her arms crossed, eyes roaming over the entrance hall. She couldn't help but be impressed, though it didn't show on her face. She did, however, raise an eyebrow as the deputy headmaster came down the stairs. This couldn't be their final stop, she knew. Her eyes traveled around the large room again, finding several doors and staircases. Any of them could be their next step, but she thought it might be the largest set of doors, other than the front ones, across the room.

Vivian shrugged. "Sure." She said, noncommittally. "Any idea where you want to end up?" She began to make her way down the line, listening to other kids shouting out their names rather than giving hers. Given that they were a bunch of eleven year olds, the process was going slowly and rather inefficiently. Some of them were trying to take charge, demanding the names of the meeker looking students and shoving them up or down the line. No one, however, dared approach Vivian.

Vivian's eyes followed the pearly white figure as it drifted down the stairs and through a wall. They widened a little in astonishment, but just for a moment. Then she returned her grey gaze to Alida. "Right." She said, inserting herself between the two students. "See you inside, I guess?"

The line of first years followed Professor Cane, most of them too nervous now to make much noise. The deputy headmaster led them through another set of doors and into a grand hall, with four long tables crowded with students and one table at the back where the staff were sitting. The first years were taken up the center towards the back table, though the Professor stopped them right in front of it.

Vivian gazed upward at the ceiling as they walked. It looked as if it was completely open to the sky, with brilliant stars shining on a deep velvety backdrop. But that couldn't be right, of course-- it must be some kind of enchantment. But it was amazing all the same.

OOC: I don't particularly feel like going through the entire list of first years right now and sorting them all, so do you mind if we skip to when our characters get sorted? that would just be a lot of typing ahaha to get them all xD

IC: Vivian waited for her turn, her expression stony as always. Her mind, however, was as nervous and jittery as the rest of the anxious first years. Where would she be put? What if the hat told her to go home, told her she wasn't magic enough for the school after all, that there'd been some mistake? Her parents were muggles, after all, and as far as she knew so was the rest of her family. A small part of her brain told her she was being stupid-- after all, talking to snakes was certainly not a normal muggle trait-- but it didn't help her nerves much.

ooc: well in a little thread like this where it's just us and we both know each other, small control of other characters is all right as long as it isn't dramatic, but I wouldn't recommend it at all in larger groups in case anyone gets touchy ahaha. ::)

ic: Vivian sat on the stool with the hat on her head. It slipped right down to cover her eyes. For a moment there was nothing, but then--

"Well, well, what do we have here? Muggle born, eh? Well, at least you won't have any preconceived notions that you know better than I do where you belong." A snide voice sounded in her ear. "Let's take a look, shall we?"

Vivian suddenly had the rather unsettling sensation of someone rifling through her memories and thoughts, all the way down to her core. And all the while the hat kept up its snide commentary, saying things like, "Very secretive thing, aren't you?" and "I can see you're not afraid to cross lines to get what you want..."

After what seemed like an eon, but must really have only been a couple minutes, the hat said, "Yes, that'll do. SLYTHERIN!" The last word was yelled out loud for the school to hear, and Vivian walked quickly towards the cheering table after yanking the hat off her head.
