Joe walked up and started stabbing holes in a tree.
-
"I dunno, but if you call me that again, your gonna have a few holes in you."
-
Joni looked more closely at the photograph. It had almost cost her her life to get it, and now it seemed just worthless.
-
Zoe pointed at the candle. The wick burst into flame and turned to ash right before her eyes. She sighed. At least part of the candle was still there, but she needed all of it. She pulled another candle out of the box and tried again. If only she was more disciplined. She saw the was the others looked at her. She couldn't control her fire no matter how hard she tried.
-
Joni frowned at Everett.
"Why do you care? You didn't lose any fingers over this thing." -
Zoe sat on the rock. She had been good all day, but she didn't feel like herself. At least they hadn't called her a rebel. That was just embarrassing. She was no longer a rebel, and she intended to keep it that way. she was tired of getting pushed from group to group and then living alone for months until she found Spark. Those days were over.
-
"Yeah yeah, your're right, but this was supposed to show us what we needed to know. That man wasn't lying. I know."
-
"I just know. People have lied to me all my life. They look different when they tell the truth. There's supposed to be a code hidden in the photo. Nobody can decipher it, not even the Robots. The code will give us access to a file that the head of Them created. It tells why they're doing this. It will tell us his weakness."
Joni replied. she was annoyed that she had to explain all this to him, but he had a right to know.
-
Joni glared at him.
"Look who decided to be negative. For your information, I think I figured out part of the the beginning. See this black spot?" She asked pointing to a little spot in the corner of the picture. "There are numbers hidden in it. If we could figure out the order they go in and if they even mean anything, then we may get somewhere. You could be helping too Kit."
-
Zoe looked at Spark.
"Behaving myself. It's boring. Almost as boring as the Free. They didn't like my "confined and negative" attitude." -
Zoe frowned.
"True." she said, stabbing her knife into the ground. -
'Well it has to." Joni said defiantly. Then she turned to Kit.
"What is that thing on your palmtop?" -
Zoe pulled a candle from her backpack. She set it on the rock in front of her and lit the whole thing on fire. She watched the wax spread across the rock. It was burning to slowly, and she was impatient. She pulled another candle from her bag. She had to show Spark that she was trying.

Star looked at the night sky. Those stars she was named for were bright and sparkly, two things she would never be. They had a certain mysteriousness to them though; they were so far away. No one knew what they were really like.
