<<?? You made the treads, so it's up to you? I just assumed that they haven't met him yet, so, yeah.>>

Kailu decides to climb the tree and rest there. The throbbing pain in his arm makes it difficult to lift himself from branch to branch, but he somehow manages to get high enough to rest and watch for any more enemies.

    <<So . . . ? What's the verdict your Honor? I can't really do much more without knowing that. Sorry for the pressure . . .>>

Forty more? Kailu thought anxiously as he sat helplessly in the tree. He had made a makeshift bandage by ripping his pants leg off from the end, and wrapping it around his arm.

"Alright . . ." With his arm seriously injured, Kailu could not protect himself without drawing more attention to where he sat in the tree, so he was obliged to share this spot with the fairy. "But how do I know whether I can trust you or not?" Before any assumptions were made about one another, Kailu needed to be sure that he could trust the fairy before him. It didn't seem as if she would cause any trouble or endanger his safety, and she was concerned about her friends. Still, he would do as he was taught to and ask.

Kailu winced, clenching the necklace tightly in his hand. "I . . . um . . . I'm part elf . . ." He struggled to find the words that proved what he was to others. "Another part dragon . . . and, lastly part ogre." His quiet voice trailed off into an almost whisper. The painful memories of why he was here and not at home came flooding back to him. "And I see you're a f-fairy?" Kailu recovered himself as quickly as possible, smiling weakly at Kono.

Cautiously, Kailu handed Kono his arm. "If we do get noticed, I'll protect you. A bullet wound won't stop me for too long." He tried to sound reassuring, but inside he was worried. I might have to do that again . . . Ngh. I'll be coughing up smoke for a few days and my voice will be gone. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Kailu winced as the ointment was applied to his wound. He thought back to when he used to come home from the market, after all the other children has teased him, and his brother would do the same thing. No. Don't think about that. He shook his head, before wiping his face. He had started to cry. Kailu looked at his moist skin in surprise, but quickly wiped the remainder of them off his face realizing someone else was in his company. "Sorry . . . uh . . . Your friends do sound nice. They're lucky to have someone like you as a friend." He tried to recover, looking up at Kono and smiling.

    <<Meow . . . >>

"You do what you can, that's what you do. And it's good. That's what I was taught." He smiled, standing up to his full height which was taller than Kono. Kailu places his dark grey hand on her head, grinning. "Thank you Kono. I feel much better now. Why don't we go and try to find your friends?" He says in his quiet voice. "I can try to pick up their scent if you give me something to smell."

    <<Hello . . .>>

Kailu breathed in the fresh forest air. It was nice being somewhere surrounded by trees. A cool breeze rushed past, ruffling his silver hair and exposing the four little horns that stuck out of his head. "Ahh . . ." Kailu sighed. He had always loved the forest; the peacefulness, creatures of all kinds, and especially all the scents hidden within the myriad of trees.
