Marlo sighed softly and stood from where she sat at the cherry oak dining table, fluffing the ruffles of her short pale pink skirt and straightening her Hello Kitty crop-top. As she heard the sound of knocking at last, Marlo slipped on her matching All Star Converse and paused to fix the bow in her hair. Marlo opened the door before her kind maid could.
The younger girl stood in the doorway, a smile pasted upon her glossed lips. Marlo hastily checked her smile and realized it looked too fake. "No. My mother is at a photoshoot and my dad is in California right now. It's just me." Marlo glanced at her, her caramel colored eyes watching Annalisa with sadness-smothered intelligence. "You look nervous," she observed as she led Annalisa to a long hallway. "Why?"
Marlo had reached a door by now and she held it open. It was a large room with baby blue and cream striped walls with cherry wood panel floors. There was a huge desk against one wall and a big bed against another with a silk canopy. The room was neat and there was only one picture to show any bit of personality from whom ever's room it was: a photo of two girls. One of the girls in the picture looked just like Marlo, except she was too happy and carefree that it didn't seem possible. The other girl was blonde just like Annalisa, but she was only about 17 years of age with the proportions of a child. The girls were giggling and hugging each other lovingly in matching bathing suits on the beach.
