    Asher ~ Red Queen ~ 18

    ~

The glowing portal labeled magically as Wonderland shimmered and shifted, the image on the other side being distorted in the light as three bodies stepped through the threshold. The fantasy-esque image settled once again, showing a brief glimpse of a courtyard most humans could only dream about with it's white marble stones and red cobbles, the hint of a garden of rose bushes just at the portal's edge, where space was warped to accommodate for the reality bending magic. Asher Lockheart shifted a minute, most of his face hidden behind the black mask he wore for traveling purposes, leaving only his brown eyes--brightly reflecting an almost caramel color in the light--visible. The average person might find him intimidating. Clad in torn-up black jeans, a black jacket worn over his tucked in t-shirt, leaving his belt just visible against the various fabrics, coupled with the two figures that stood beside him--knights clad in heavy, blood red armor, their faces hidden by their lowered visors, carrying spears tipped with spades--Asher looked the part of a young, evil prince. However, his eyes glanced about his surroundings with a kind of lightness in them, not just reflected from the sun, giving some indication that the young man might otherwise be more than he first seemed.

Asher himself carried only one bag, a backpack slung halfheartedly over his shoulder, while the knights with him instead toted around much of his luggage. He didn't speak to them, and indicated his intention of motion with a slight inclination of his head. He walked forward, heading through the Academy's courtyard with purposeful strides, shouldering his bag slightly every now and again as he went. Most of the other students scattered out of his way, and the ones that strayed too close found themselves removed from his immediate personal space by the bodyguards trailing him. It was obvious lots of looks and whispers were being directed towards him, but Asher paid them very little mind. As a freshman, he'd admittedly felt embarrassed his first year here, escorted by an identically dressed pair of knights, as so many people had stared at him and judged him. Now, a senior, he couldn't even care less. Was it inconvenient to have these two with him when he was perfectly capable of moving in alone? Yes. Was it something he was going to keep arguing with his mother about? No, it wasn't worth it. Growing up, he was used to being escorted everywhere publicly anyways, and he'd be getting his space soon enough.

It was crowded in front of the dormitory assignment board, but Asher didn't have to struggled through the crowd like many of his fellow peers. The knights shifted their formation a bit, and one of them pushed forward through the throng of people with Asher following behind, getting through the group without another person so much as accidentally brushing against him. He rapidly took in the list, finding his name and assignment, before sidestepping off to the side so the other students wouldn't be impeded by him and his bodyguards any longer. "It said sixteen," he told one of the knights, his voice ever so slightly muffled by the mask. The knight nodded in acknowledgement, armor clanking softly, and the red figure turned towards one of the halls. Asher followed, the other knight behind him, as he his eyes glanced curiously over the doors and numbers. He noticed one door propped ajar and caught a glimpse inside: two fairy girls were hugging one another and laughing, the air in their room saturated with glowing dust , soft fabrics in bright colors thrown over one bed. Asher had read the name next to his own on the dorm list--Ryver Frost, who was the son of one Jack Frost. He was a grade below Asher, and they hadn't really spoken before but Ash had seen him around and thought he seemed cool. In his four years at Academy, he'd only had one serious issue with a roommate before and compared to that, there wasn't a lot that fazed the prince anymore. He doubted it would be a problem to room with Ryver--Ash was a naturally warm person physically, so even if the other boy liked it cold, that wouldn't cause an issue. Asher figured that was the biggest issue--there could be a clash of personality, but Ash got along well with pretty much anyone if the situation necessitated it, so he was feeling content.

Arriving at room sixteen, Asher cracked the door open, taking note of the empty and undecorated room beyond before opening the door fully and stepping inside. He picked his side of the room--the same side he'd chosen every year, in all his dorms--and unceremoniously threw his backpack onto the unadorned mattress. The knights behind him began piling his luggage neatly nearby before turning to him. He couldn't see their faces but he couldn sense their expectations. "You two are dismissed," he said without inflection, nodding at them.

The two saluted him, and one said,"Have an excellent school year, young master!" before they filed out of the room, their clanking armor quieting the further they went down the hall, leaving the prince in silence. The first thing Asher did was pull the mask off his face, careful not to catch it on the hoops in his ears, inhaling and exhaling deeply as the cool air tickled his nose.

"Finally," he sighed out, grinning to himself as he tossed the mask aside. "It's about time I get some space again," he thought, smiling ever so softly, his dimples deepening on his cheeks gently at the motion. He didn't necessarily mean physical space. His room at home was gargantuan compared to the dorm, and he didn't have to share it with anyone ("Yeah, that's a downside of going to school here, I guess."). More accurately, he meant some mental space. At home, people were constantly breathing down his neck--tutors, advisors... his mother. But here, he could do whatever he wanted, with no one to question or judge him for it. It felt freeing, to be back at school. His smile gently faded though, and he pressed his lips together. "Last year...." He turned towards where his luggage was stacked, running a hand through his soft hair. "Better make it count."

Asher began unpacking, the sound of squealing zippers filling the not-long empty space as he began taking things out of bags. He put his clothes away, some in the dresser, some hanging in the closet, careful to store his nicer suits properly in the back on hangers so they wouldn't be wrinkled. He made his bed with the sheets and comforter he used for school, white with red adornments and only slightly less regal than the bed spread he used at home. There was a practical mountain of accent pillows piled on top of the bed too, but he enjoyed having lots of plushiness to go around. He had a few things to decorate with too, some stuff to make the room really feel like his. For one, he pulled a stack of sheet music books out of one bag and lined them carefully on the first tier of shelves. He followed that was a much heavier stack of books, some thick and some very thin, the covers dull and faded or ornate and gilded. His current read--a short collection of sky-related poetry--was tossed haphazardly on his desk. There was a small bauble, a glass sculpture of a red rose, that he usually towed around with him as well. There wasn't any special meaning behind it, he just thought it was pretty, but he set it on a shelf nonetheless. He also hung up one of his kingdom's tapestries above his bunk--he didn't have some particular attachment to it, but leaving the walls totally bare, with the bright lights, made the dorm feel too cold to him--so he always hung one up. Lastly, he took it upon himself to string up the curtains he'd brought. Not everyone thought about that, so he always brought a set just in case. Exhaling, Asher glanced around his side of the room, the hint of a smile ghosting his features in satisfaction. This looked good. He liked it. He stretched his arms over his head, feeling the muscles in his back and shoulders tugging softly, and let out a sigh of content at the feeling.

Despite having just spent an extended amount of time decorating his perfect space, Asher knew he would have plenty of time to chill alone later, if he felt like it, and right then he wanted to check out the excitement happening around him. Move-in was always chaotic, but fun--the castle was normally so quiet and well-put together, Asher welcomed the throng of people rushing about. Plus, he was thinking he might run into a few of his friends. So the prince slipped out of his dorm room into the hallway, smiling as a couple of pixies darted past him, carrying bins of clothing. He shut the door behind him with a soft click, and began quietly meandering down the hallway back the way he'd come--what with having a dorm near the end of his halls. Happening upon any open doors, he would glance in curiously at the decorations and residents, though tried his best not to disturb anyone while they scrambled to move in.

When people actually show up to your thread and are excited for it. :')

.smokey Sea God Slayer is reserved. And yoooo, Lovecraft take over sounds cool as hell. Mythical creatures sound cool too though! Whatever works best, and I've always kinda liked rune magic but don't see it used very often? I'm interested to see your character!

lilure. Your characters are accepted! Obviously, lmao. Anyway, if you're not doing anything, can you help me look through the storage/drive because, uh, I can't find Erik's form anywhere. ^-^

Sanctuaryforall1 Good question! I kinda imagined the guild coalition being directly employed by the kingdom, i.e. the royalty. I think it would be reasonable for the Magic Council to send a small force into Iceberg as well. Given the track records of many guilds (Fairy Tail being chaotic, Sabertooth being competent but destructive, Blue Pegasus being incompetent etc.), I think the Council would definitely want some kind of insurance policy seeing as the orb could be a dangerous threat to all of Fiore, not just Crocus. I've actually had quite a lot of questions about the council, it seems like there's a lot of interest in them in this thread, so if Celeste was going to be around, i think she would have plenty of teammates to help her out!

Yeah, I'm gonna update the list right now with the new characters that were made last night! Also, I apologize for leaving some of that stuff out, what happened there is that I keep documents for these threads on my laptop to help me keep things straight and somehow I had two lists going, and was trying to decide what magics could only be used once, more than once with different abilities, etc. So I was trying to combine the lists and I guess I accidentally duplicated some and left others out! So yeah, that's on me, sorry for any confusion!

lilure. 's Dani has the zodiac keys (minus Virgo and Aries which are currently MIA due to plot)!

My character, Marius, is a celestial wizard as well. He uses (for sure) Ophiuchus, the swan, the unicorn, the cat, the fox, the hydra, the dragon, and the chained lady! We also have people playing the hounds, the queen, and the centaur, which if you were interested in any of those, I'd be more than happy to let you use them! Otherwise, Marius will use though too. And if you wanted to utilize other constellations/make up your own, that's cool too! Lone_Fox Don't worry too much about the delay, take your time with irl stuff, as much as you need! :D But I'm excited to have you join us, too!

Forms part 2 because I hit the character limit on the last one. ^-^
