The nearby brambles rustled as a small tabby tom pelted through and halted abruptly in front of the two she-cats. His fur was sticking up, making him look twice his size, and his panicked expression scanned Ebony. "What's going on? I heard a yelp and I figured you were in trouble."

Halfpaw was in full-pelt straight toward the camp and didn't dare turn his head to see if the fox was hard on his paws. The old nursery tale of the fox that ate three apprentices all in the same hunting patrol flashed through his mind, making him run faster. No cat actually believes that story, right? A normal fox couldn't possibly have taken on three apprentices and then ate them, could it? Halfpaw pushed his worries away as he rushed through the thorn tunnel into the camp.

Halfpaw drew in a breath to yowl his warning around the camp, but then half-choked, trying to stop himself. He had just realized that the camp was practically empty, for the exception of Frostdapple giving Morningshade more borage leaves, here kits sniffing them curiously then sharply pulling away at the bitter scent, Hollowtooth sleeping peacefully outside the elder's den, and Mousepaw picking through the fresh-kill pile looking for a tasty piece of prey. Probably vole, Halfpaw thought to himself. Halfpaw knew that yelping about a fox would only terrify the the cats in the camp and offer him little help to actually handle the problem. He calmly padded over to Mousepaw and picked through the fresh-kill pile, pretending to look for something to eat, hoping to get Mousepaw's attention.

ooc: If you want to take up the role of Mousepaw in addition to Brindle you can, but if you don't want to I can do both.

"Okay, okay, Chervil right? I think that's the one for kitting." Halfpaw stammered. He was clearly trying to remember anything about herbs he had learned from basic warrior-medicine training. "I think there's a bit growing under that big oak tree," Halfpaw pointed into the woods with his tail, "but I can't be sure." Halfpaw was frozen to the ground and beginning to panic more than the she-cats.

A tabby apprentice crawled out from under a bush, his pelt ruffled from the bush branches, and his own anxiety. "I knew I scented something," Halfpaw glared at Jake. "Something that shouldn't be here!" His tail lashed across the ground, scattering leaves over the forest floor.

Just ahead of the patrol, a small tabby apprentice poked his head out of a bush and turned toward the patrol, his eyes wide with terror. "What's going on out there?"

ooc: Mousepaw is an old friend of Halfpaw, similar to Firepaw and Graypaw. He can be however you want him to. It's your call.

ooc: Gingerpelt002, where is your character? The forest or the camp? And a name would be nice.

ooc: I can't really type anything here... sorry guys. I can't type further into Halfpaw without making this chat go all over the place. I really don't want that to happen. :P

ooc: I'm not like mad or anything at Gingerpelt. Also I'm not trying to control this chat. DON'T feel the need to change your story because of me, I've just never hit a brief dead end in a story. It's really, fascinating.

ooc: Sorry about all the ooc's, including this one.

"Okay," The apprentice quickly crawled out from under the bush to join the patrol, appearing more comfortable in the company of warriors. However, he was keeping his distance from the rogue she-cat and his fur was still standing up.

Just as Jake finished his sentence, Halfpaw flew across the clearing with his head lowered. Jake yelped in surprise as Halfpaw rammed his flank, sending Jake skirting across the clearing. Halfpaw flattened his ears and curled his lips back to reveal razor-sharp teeth. "You going to have to get through me first!"

A small tabby tom was curled up in a nest near the back of the den. Shifting restlessly in his sleep.

    (Halfpaw)

"Ow!" A loud yelp escaped the medicine-cat's den and shortly after a small tabby apprentice limped out, holding a forepaw just off the ground. He was muttering to himself as he made his way over to the other apprentices. "Worthless, mouse-brained medicine-cat. Just wait till she wrenches her own claws and tries to heal them." Halfpaw settled down beside the apprentices, still holding up his paw.

Halfpaw padded through the bushes toward Jake, two mice in his jaws. He stopped where Jake was lying and dropped one onto Jake's paws. "One mouse doesn't mean we can be friends you know," Halfpaw murmured. Then he settled down with his mouse and glanced over his shoulder. "You don't think Skyflight is hungry at the moment do you?"

Halfpaw raised a forepaw to Mousepaw. "No, no, you keep it. Plus I need your attention, and I don't want you drooling all over my share of the vole when I tell you..." Halfpaw quickly glanced around, then continued in a hushed voice. "There's a fox in Thunderclan territory."
