Snowfrost curled up in his nest. Diamondflame sure didn't mind speaking her mind. Now that she was a prisoner, it was kind of amusing actually.
He pictured the pretty she-cat in his mind. He kind of liked her fiery attitude. It was a shame she wasn't a fireferra.
Woah. Where had that thought come from? Snowfrost shook his head. He was just tired. In the morning she would once again just be an irritating enemy furball.

Even under the watchful eye of the fireferra guard and the previous day's events, Diamondflame had dozed off sometime during the night. She had woken up at dawn when the sunbeams hit her eyes. Soon after, the fireferra camp was alive with activity. Cats left to check the border and to hunt. Some cats shared tongues in the growing sunlight. All of them had glanced at her at some point. Some were still looking. But she didn't let their stares intimidate her. She would watch them more than they watched her. She would figure out the best way to escape, then bring the snowferra to attack the camp, and drive the fireferra away.

Snowfrost was hunting in the forest again. The prey seemed to be getting harder and harder to find. Too many cats. If they were to survive, they needed to drive out the snowferras, and quickly.
Later tonight, a few fireferra had been chosen to tell the snowferra about Diamondflame. Snowfrost was one of them. The cats chosen had been warned that if the snowferra captured them, the fireferra would not send help. They would be on their own. They needed to deliver the news quickly and get out quicker. They wouldn't be very welcoming after the night before.
It was sunhigh. he had been instructed to go back to camp at sunhigh and sleep until the patrol set out. Snowfrost gathered his morning's catch, just a mouse and a sparrow, and headed back toward camp.

Snowfrost padded back into camp. He put the mouse on the fresh-kill pile and took the sparrow to Diamondflame. He laid it down in front of her. She bent down with a gleam in her eye. She ate a mouthfull, then looked back at him.
"How nice of you to share your prey. I noticed you have even less than we do. No wonder you're so desperate," she said in a mock- innocent voice.
The guard stiffened, trying not to react. Snowfrost looked at her coolly, trying not to show that she had gotten to him. He turned and went to his nest to sleep until evening.

Diamondflame licked her lips in satisfaction. Never had she tasted a sparrow so good. The look on Snowfrost's face would make her laugh silently to herself for as long as she lived. Which might not be that long. But now she knew a touchy subject for the fireferra. They were more low on prey than they would ever dare admit. That would make them weak. Easier to beat. The snowferra could win!

Snowfrost padded toward the snowferra border with the two other cats in the patrol. They had decide that they would try to find and ambush one snowferra cat, who then would take the message back to their clan. If this failed they would have to resort to more drastic measures, which would most likely end up getting every cat in the patrol killed. Snowfrost hoped they could find one snowferra out in the woods.

Snowfrost and the rest of the patrol stayed low, almost slithering through the undergrowth. So far they had found no solo cat, or any cats for that matter. You think they would be searching for Diamondflame. maybe they had already guessed that she had been taken hostage. Or maybe they just didn't care.

Snowfrost and the rest of the patrol scoured Snowferra's territory for a little while longer. Finally, when they were about to give up hope and return to their camp, the fireferra cats scented snowferra. They crept closer to the source, verifying that it was just one. It was. Now it was time to come up with a plan.
