I am inclined to agree, generally speaking. It does depend on *what* one reads, and for that reason I try to throw a classic novel or two in every few months just to stir things up and keep my brain on its toes. I'd love to write a novel of my own one day, but that is a long way off. My husband will probably do it first -- he's far more talented than I (though he's modest enough not to realize it).

Sure had been rather proud of her collar when she had first received it. It had made her happy because it made the little twolegs happy when she wore it (not that she had much choice). For such a short period of time, Sure had enjoyed making the housefolk happy, even though in the long run it hadn't amounted to a hill of beans.

The small kit's visage darkened, and she turned her head away, curling her toes into her paws, subconsciously trying to relieve the burning sting from walking on her "virgin" paw pads for so long. Finally, after a solemn moment, she shook her head. "I think I'll keep it," she said. At least for now. The collar would eventually become quite tight, and she would want to take it off while it was still possible for her to do so (and before she began to risk an infection from the collar).

Sure raised a slim shoulder slightly in a gesture that was intended to stop the questions. She wasn't looking at Fame, but instead glanced toward Plus. Her tail twitched, and with a conscious effort she stopped it, her body tensing up again.

"So... You don't have folks?" she asked the other cats, glancing from Plus to Fame and then back again.

She knew the answer to her question of course, before she asked it. But if she didn't say something, she felt as though the heavy silence might remain forever, and as much as she valued her space, she also craved the company of other cats.

(OOC: Don't want to flood Plus, so nudged her back in -- Sorry about that! Hope this isn't considered a powerplay since she's already in the scene...)

Sure gave Plus a sideways glance. She didn't look very old herself, and the kit wondered what had made her new friend leave her housefolk. Plopping her head down on her paws, she gave a soft, sad sigh, the guttural noise catching in her throat like a low growl and then fading away again. She wanted to complain, to rant and rail and cry about the things that had happened, about how much she missed her parents. She might still have been with them, if all was right with the world, and a wave of loneliness swept over her.

Catching the complaint in her throat, Sure lifted her head again. Her stomach was empty because she hadn't eaten since the previous day. She hadn't yet hunted, instead having chosen to live off the generosity of the twolegs for as long as she could stand it. But she hadn't liked the fights and the pecking order at all, and it had led to too many nights of her going to bed unfed, because she wasn't willing to wait her turn in line, and she was too small to win a fight against several much larger cats.

Sure had lost the protection of her kin, and of the other kittypets in her new household, when she had chosen to bolt. She didn't even know if the twolegs was looking for her, and it didn't particularly matter. There was nothing they could do for her any more, anyway. Food was one thing, but already her instincts were prickling with the desire to go on the hunt.

While she didn't see any expression of discontent on Fame's face, she could sense the change in atmosphere from behind her, and Sure was about to swivel around to look at him when he jumped at Plus. She was on her feet immediately, startled and on her guard, but immediately recognized the play, and her mood lifted almost instantly. She grinned. "Good," she said, in response to Fame's statement about being a loner all his life. "I bet you know all about hunting, don't you?" she mewed with a mischievous grin. She knew she could figure it out on her own, but if she had someone more experienced to give her a boost, it would be all the better!

OOC: Was writing when Fame posted, so had to work around a little bit. Hope it looks okay!

Thinking of you and Eric! I'm sure that he will be fine. Hopefully they run some tests and find a way to help to keep him in better shape. Young people having heart attacks is usually due to a heart problem of another sort, and they may be able to treat the source of the problem to get him healthy again.

Take care of both of you and come back when you're ready. Nobody can blame you for needing some space when these things are going on in your life.

    Be well!

My husband has been out of work for quite some time now. The economy is bad, of course, and his company made an excuse to fire him in November of 2008 (that's TWO years ago) instead of simply laying him off. Thankfully he got unemployment anyway because they couldn't justify their actions. He got another job, and the same thing wound up happening (except that this was a lot more corruption). He got fired again, because the corrupt company had been taking his sales, then saying he wasn't making any -- on other words, saying HE owed THEM money.

Since getting laid off from that job, he's been out of work for nearly a year now. It's been incredibly stressful on both of us. I haven't gotten a job for practical reasons: I'm a home schooling mother, and once he's back at work, I'd have to quit at the drop of a hat for financial reasons (we can't afford the high cost of daycare, and it's practically illegal in the U.S. now to accept free daycare).

So... Yeah, things have been tight around here.

The crazy thing is that DH hadn't gotten but ONE interview since losing the second job. That job isn't on his resume, and shouldn't affect anything. The company he interviewed with didn't like him for the job. Come to find out employers around here are beginning to confess that his "credentials" intimidate them. He has a LOT of accomplishments (he had his first manager position at the age of 17!).

Anyway, he went to a job fair on Monday and he has had two interviews now! He's expecting at least two more calls next week, and one of them is a really good job. We're both very hopeful, since ther were no other qualified applicants for the good one. He has a very peculiar set of qualifications since his degree is in GOLF of all things (he's a pro -- not a professional player, but a golf professional). Because of his refinishing experience, he has paint experience that makes him qualified for jobs that might otherwise surprise people.

I am SO relieved that he may be back at work soon and our lives can settle down into something like normal!

Umm... Sort of. It's hard to explain the problem.

I can TYPE more. I can copy and paste into the box and it all comes up. Anything I type is invisible below the fold (and I can't scroll down) but it will come up when I hit the "post" button.

I hope that makes sense. I've never seen anything like this before and just imagined it was an Opera problem.

I could try in FireFox but my FF seems to be totally messed up right now.

Sure was beginning to like Fame a lot. It wasn't that he was flamboyant (though that didn't bother her) but that he seemed to be able to take everything in stride. She wished that she could be that cat, the one who could let everything roll off her like water off a duck's back. Instead, she tended to brood, and brood a lot. She would likely remember both Plus and Fame as her rescuers. Sure was the type of kit who would bond, and bond hard if she was allowed to do so. She didn't need a large clan of cats to make her feel safe and comfortable, but a small pack of friends would make her feel like she'd been given the world.

The blue kit smiled as she watched Fame go into hunt mode. She lowered her own forebody to the ground, her shoulders rising, her tail twitching back and forth as her yellow eyes narrowed. She wasn't stalking anything herself, but watching him. She caught a glimpse of Plus out of the corner of her eye and twitched an ear in her direction, wondering what the older she-cat would do.

Sure was amazed to see how easily Fame turned from a loud and flamboyant tom into a skilled hunter. Her smile broadened, and she found it difficult not to inch after him as he hunted, slowly stalking the mouse that would become her meal. Her ears swiveled forward and listened to every movement in the brush, and yet she nearly jumped when he pounced, her body coming up fully into a sitting position as he trotted back to her with the mouse between his jaws.

Slightly stunned, Sure took a step back when the mouse was dropped at her feet, her head cocking just a bit to the side, one ear turning to tune in to any sounds coming from Plus. She felt... Strange. She knew she must learn to hunt for herself, but it touched her that Fame had gone to the trouble to hunt down her lunch himself.

She smiled, stooping slightly to her meal. For a moment she didn't eat, but looked out under her lids at Fame, and then glanced to Plus. "Share?" she meowed.

There could be some legal repercussions if the dog continues to bite the man, previous owner (and abusive) or not. I wouldn't think it wise to let the leash go when he's around, since Aliza is responsible for restraining and controlling the dog if she is the one who has her license. If the dog is *not* licensed, that could potentially be even worse.

I had a dog once who had been adopted from a shelter. It quickly became obvious to us that she'd been abused by an older man who carried a stick (cane) because she would always snap at white haired men and men who had canes. Certain shades of blue also really bothered her. I'm not sure whether or not dogs can see blue, but I do know that she may have been reacting to the *shade* rather than the color itself.

It got to the point she couldn't go anywhere with us, since we didn't know when she'd turn on someone unexpectedly. She was fine with her family though.

I'll bet these are the errors that Wynn was talking about. I figured that we were looking for forum errors and not database errors. Nevermind then. Should be fixed soon enough :)
