I joined two days ago and know NOTHING about Warriors. I mean absolutely zilch. I'm already RPing because for me, that's the best way to learn! :)

Welcome! I'm brand new here and am entirely new to the Warriors series. I'm learning as I go along, but it is a lot of fun!
Have fun!

I made a bio *and* applied because when I RP I'm insanely active lol
I like doing things from scratch, but I also feel like the best way to learn something new is to get in the middle of it -- so adopting works well, too :)

I posted to the freshkill post stickied in this board without a problem. I'm pretty sure it went over 50 characters, because I'm not sure I'm capable of writing something that's LESS than 50 characters. Twitter and I do not mix well ;)

Have you looked for any bug reports with this version of SMF? Most recently I've used the BETA version with very few problems, but IIRC there is an update for the stable version of SMF.
-
Is this problem only in Undercity? Did anybody ask for help on the SMF support forums (they're good, by the way, and used to solve problems for me all the time)?
-
I third blue point.
Seal is much darker.

I can understand that, Wynn. After just two days I get the impression that I will find it less complicated to learn the game through playing rather than through reading the books. That being said, I'm an avid reader and I think they'd interest me :)

Okay, first of all I'm using Opera, and chances are very good that the site software just isn't optimized for Opera. That being said, I've used it before and I cannot imagine why it would be throwing me issues right now.
I'm working on a post in the Loner Neutral lands, and it's getting pretty long now. I'm in the third paragraph and will probably reach four, possibly (though unlikely) five, mainly because oops, I never do bios well and Sure is adapting quickly to Plus and Fame. This happens to me as an RPer (and as a writer) all the time and usually results in slightly longer posts as I work out the changes and the differences (so that I can create a gallery later on).
Anyway, that's a lot of words to use to explain that all of a sudden, none of my words are showing up in the text box. I copied and pasted the text into wordpad and it's all there. Even the preview is showing all of it. But I can't see what I'm typing.
I'm a touch typist, so no big. But if this is a problem that is affecting others using the forum who are *not* touch typists, there could be some problems later on.

While Sure remained completely aware of the vicinity of other cats and larger animals, her guard was dropping, and fast. In spite of herself she rolled her eyes and grinned toothily at Fame. Nobody had ever called her "adorable" and she liked the sound of that! Pleased with both him and herself, she gave a little forebody shake.
Sure wasn't a particularly proud kit, and she wasn't a show off. However hadn't spent enough time with her parents to really learn the conventions of being feline from them, and at the house with all the cats she had kept to herself instead of blending in. She lacked most social skills, and certainly most social graces.
"Ha!" Sure grinned, putting her little blue nose in the air. "I am, aren't I?" After all, she did have a beautiful blue coat and big yellow eyes with green that deepened right around her pupils. She was lean, and didn't have an ounce of fat on her body. It may be that one day she would come to pride herself on never having been a spoiled kitty pet (while still dearly missing her parents, who were).
Grinning, Sure flopped onto her belly in the grass. Her paws were sore from all the traveling, and having lived so much of her life indoors, they weren't hardened for outdoor living. She hooked a toe into her collar and gave it a little tug. It still fit well, and there was some stretch. She could get it off if she wanted to, but the thought made her miss her twolegs companion even more.

Okay, so I would *really* like to adopt an unborn with some genetic randomness involved in the process. I realize that if one of my cats ever has kits then I have a bit of control over the randomness (and can keep one or more, right?), but right now I would *love* to adopt one.
Especially in cases where there are white kits with the potential for blue eyes, the deafness factor in reality would be pure randomness, right? And who isn't fascinated by white cats with blue eyes? Heck, I know that I am! Gorgeous cats, but I don't want to RP a deaf cat right now.
So what I was wondering is whether or not it is acceptable/advisable (or something else?) to perhaps, for example, roll a die on genetics.
As an example, if I were to apply for an unborn kit in a litter of three with genetic possibilities as follows:
Female Kits: Black, White, Tortie
Male Kits: Black, CreamWith possible eye colors (based on genetics) of brown, yellow and blue, then what do you think of first determining gender by random selection, then coat color (based on gender) and then eye color. If blue eyes are rolled on a white cat, then rolling again for deafness?
Obviously there would have to be allowances made for rarity. Not really sure why I'm throwing this out there except that I really love a bit of randomness, considering that it can help make a character unique.
Note: I haven't studied genetics enough to know whether or not these possibilities make sense in CATS. I've studied python genetics probably way too much, but cat genetics have never been an issue. If they don't make sense, just view this as an example, please ;)

I could have a few minutes ago :( I went ahead and posted it, and am now not getting the same problem, which is really kind of weird. I went back to the page since I still could and it looks normal. I think the preview might have fixed it.
If it happens to me again I will screen shot it for you and post here.
Sorry!

I'd begun to wonder if I'd even made sense.
My thought was for the purpose of realism in the group. There are some pelt colors and eye colors that are highly prized by the members of the group, such as white cats and blue eyes (or white cats *with* blue eyes). This of course brings in the deafness factor which makes things even more interesting.
My thought was merely that without randomness, there is no rarity any more.
Of course, when parents adopt out their kits they can choose who gets those kits based on rarity of genetics. We'd see less Kitty-Sue though ;)

Right, I have a (very general) understanding of how it works.
I did kind of answer my own question though.

-
I actually probably will pick your brain at some point. I understand how genetics work, generally, but I've never done a lot of FELINE genetics.
What I do know comes from having adopted and rehomed a feral in our old neighborhood. Initially we thought the cat might have been a young male, but since it was calico, I was entirely perturbed. Looked it up and was shocked to find out that it *could* be calico, and how. The how creeps me out a bit, but that's beside the point. Rare, but possible. Fascinating!
I am going to want some more information on breeding at some point, but I can't find very much in the guides. Sure has a lot of growing to do, but I will want to breed her :)
-
That's not *quite* it, but it's close.
I don't think that it matters on a really big site like this, because there are enough people to mix things up more, depending on RP experience and whatnot.
White cats with blue eyes aren't "rare" like calico toms are. A calico tom is actually a gentic anomaly because it requires two X chromosomes (and a Y) in order for the calico markings to be expressed (since both black and red are carried on the X chromosome).
Umm... My question is starting to make less sense as time goes on, since I've reached personal conclusions on the matter lol

Why is it with NIT's that i always pop in when I'm about to leave for a while? I need to learn to do better than that.
I'm gonna go play some Sims for a while. New XP comes out next month and I must justify purchasing it!

-
That wasn't what I meant (charging). Actually I wasn't trying to make a suggestion at all, but I think I got distracted partially through the post and it stopped making complete sense.
I am looking for a way to randomize my own choices -- NOT to force anybody else to be random. Thinking about that I got to considering the fact that when certain genetic combinations are available, people tend to jump on them, which led me off track a bit. I hope that makes slightly more sense now.
In either case, I answered half of my own question and you (Wynn) answered the other half, so I'm all good.
I do need more information on mating and breeding. Is there a guide I'm overlooking or does one need to be written? Seasons? Age for breeding? Etc?
-
I'm gonna try, Thalia! I'm hoping I can get some story material so that I can start writing stories again, and yet somehow I doubt it... :-/
-
Well probabilities + randomizer is realistic, right? Odds are just that: odds. It doesn't always work out the way that you might expect :)
