Snowpaw woke with a gasp. "My dream!" Snowpaw recalled. She had a dream a few nights before that glory and terror will await her, and in the dream she saw a flash of red, and then darkness. Just like this evening. Glory and terror await you.. She recalled the Starclan spirit's prophecy. Was that what the spirit meant when it said that? Snowpaw had no time to worry about that. She had more important worries, now. For example, having to bear Mintfrost's reaction--and sharp tounge--when she must explain to him that she was acting like a foolish kit and picking up a berry she didn't know about..
"The berry!" Snowpaw exclaimed. Now she knew why it was so familiar. Rosethorn and Blackstorm tried to kill Snowpaw when she was a kit in the dark forest before the StarClan spirit sent her to Brightspirit.. They were fed up with her blindness. She had remembered that smell ever since she was a kit!
Snowpaw grabbed the beech leaves, and entered the camp. Her fur was ruffled and had a leaf in it, and she smoothed it down. She set down the beech leaves in Mintfrost's den, nervous to explain to her mentor the foolish mistake she had just made.
-
"Did Mintfrost give you, Sparrowkit, and Leafkit some catmint?" Snowpaw asked. Her voice was scratchy from the berry, and it was unlike the sound of Nightstar's, so it didn't seem as if Snowpaw had greencough or whitecough.
-
"Oh." Snowpaw's voice was at a whisper now. Who know deathberries took away your voice? she thought. "You might need some, then, if it's alright with Mintfrost." she pushed a leaf towards Nightstar**, the scent making her mouth water. And then, at Dawnflower's question, she shifted uncomfortably, "I just..um.." she broke off, panicked. "I just lost my voice is all."

Snowpaw's heart was pounding now. She wanted to spill everything to her mentor first, and then confess to the other warriors, but she was in front of everyone now. She looked into his eyes pleadingly for a moment, but mewed, "Er...yes, I did." she cleared her throat; she hated how her voice got squeaky and high when she was lieing, "And I could..f-fetch you some more, um..if you want.."
-
Oh no. she thought. Ohhh no. Here we go. she nodded and dipped her head, "Y-yes Mintfrost. Of course."
Come on, everyone makes mistakes. What's the worst thing that could happen? I learned my lesson. she thought nervously.
-
Snowpaw bowed her head in shame. She had totally forgotten. One more thing for him to be angry! Snowpaw, you MOUSEBRAIN! "I'm s-sorry Mintfrost."
-
"Th-thank you." she is shocked by his praise. But she is hit with the familiar guilt/fear/regretful feeling, and blurts out, "But I don't deserve your praise!" she wraps her tail around her mouth, stiffling a whimper.
-
"I..uhh.." her time had come. "Few nights ago, I had a dream that a StarClan spirit told me that 'Glory and terror awaited me.' And I was staring into a moonlit meadow, and I was hit with a flash of red, then darkness. So tonight, I wanted to please you so I headed out to the river to collect herbs. After I collected them I came across a bush with berries on it. The berries had a sharp scent. It was, oddly enough, strangely familiar to me. I picked a berry up, thinking it was a new herb we could use to improve the health of our cats. But I swallowed a seed and, started choking. The thing burned in my throat. I used yarrow to cough it back up, but that's how my voice is all scratchy."
She continued with a shaky breath, "I passed out. I saw a flash of red, then the usual darkness. I think that it corresponded to my dream. So I endured the terror. Where's the glory? Anyways, I recognized the scent of the berry after I woke up. It was yew, or deathberries. My parents, Rosethorn and Blackstorm, tried to feed deathberries to me in the Dark Forest when I was a kit, because they were fed up with my blindness and poor fighting skills. This was before a StarClan spirit rescued me and sent me to my adopted deceased mother, Brightspirit.
"I have learned my lesson, I have." her voice was shaking now, but she refused to cry, as it was a sign of weakness. "I promise, I've been punished too, but I'll take any punishment from you.." she closed her eyes, waiting to hear that she was a fat lazy stupid unworthy apprentice. She felt that way, at least. -
Snowpaw was hit with relief and confusion. How come he never said anything about the foolishness she had just told him? And what did he mean by 'I should know."? But she was happy that finally, some cat aside from Brightspirit understood just how awful Rosethorn and Blackstorm were. "Thank you, Mintfrost. I'm glad you understand." Snowpaw pressed her head against his shoulder, "And I'll talk to Nightstar about this dream I had."
-
"Of course, Mintfrost. I wouldn't dare bother her now." she blinked at his praise. "Thank you, Mintfrost, but I will never be as great as you."
-
"Wh-what?!" Snowpaw let her chin drop.
-
"Wait, you..will..me...full medicine cat..." Focus Snowpaw! "But..why?" she asks. She forces herself to remain calm; she doesn't want Mintfrost to think that she can't handle the truth.
-
"I knew you'd tell me eventually." she looked up at him, "I could tell. You don't interpret dreams, after all. But trust me, that doesn't make you any less of the medicine cat, the mentor, Mintfrost, that I know and love. In fact, I would do the same and not worship StarClan, if it weren't for that StarClan spirit that rescued me from the Dark Forest in my kithood. The spirit sent me to Brightspirit. It was a sign." She takes a deep breath and continues, "I can't chose your fate, or where you want to be. But if that is your wish, then I respect it."
-
Instead of looking shocked, Snowpaw smiled. "Thank you, Mintfrost." she purred happily. But she wanted to know one thing. She asked abruptly, "Who is your mate?"
-
Leave it to Snowpaw to screw things up. Snowpaw thought miserably. "Oh..Mintfrost..I'm sorry..I didn't mean to..."
-
Snowpaw blinks in relief. "Okay, thank you." From the way the sun was hitting her eyes, she could tell it was evening. "Do you still want me to fetch those herbs for you?" Snowpaw smiles.
-
Snowpaw tries to glare defiantly, but she can't. She smiles. "I won't." and pads out the entrance.
"Yes, be careful, Stripedkit. There are a lot of kits with whitecough, and I'd hate it if you got it too." Snowpaw meows as she pads away.
-
Snowpaw stops at the meadow. She finds the cursed yew bush, and digs a giant hole under it. Then she pushes the yew bush into the hole and covers it up. Aha! No more victims. Snowpaw thought triumphantly.
Then she collects herbs.
-
Snowpaw was looking for more catmint as she pads through a bush to find Dawnflower sitting there. "Evening, Dawnflower." she mews.
