Snowpaw stretched. At Mintfrost's command, she sat up. "Coming!" she said, gave her fur a few licks, and joined the white tom. All of a sudden, she remembered she was an apprentice now. She hid her excitement by giving her fur another lick.

Snowpaw looked at Nightstar and tilted her head. Was everything okay? she wondered. She shook away the thought. Nightstar is a bold, strong, and courageous leader. She won't let a bad day get to her head.
-
Snowpaw nodded, following Mintfrost. She wanted to please her mentor, and this would be her first time out of camp. She couldn't wait to smell the new smells and hear the new sounds. If only I could see it's beauty.
-
"Let's see..." Snowpaw paused. "Catnip is used for greencough, and it helps soothe a cat. Alder reduces swelling and also prevents infection when chewed and applied to a wound. It can be chewed by a cat with a toothache to get rid of pain and swelling. Goldenrod can be chewed into a poultice to help reduce wounds, I'm pretty sure."
-
Snowkit blinks happily. They were off to a good start. "Thanks, I had some help from my former mother, Brightspirit." she had trouble saying 'Brightspirit'. Even though Brightspirit's death was 2 moons ago, it was still too fresh.
-
"At least she was a fine cat unlike Rosethorn." she mumbled to herself. Shaking her head, she said softly, "Thanks."
-
Snowpaw paused. Would Mintfrost really want to hear what happened to her? She decided they had more important things to do than sit and chat about back stories, however bad they were. "Nothing, Mintfrost, just..just trying to recall the herbs we must collect." Snowpaw mumbled sheepishly.
-
"Alright." Snowpaw agreed, ears twitching.
-
Snowpaw leaned down and took a huge sniff. It was a sweet smelling plant. "I'll remember that. Shall I take some, now?"
-
Snowpaw flattened her ears defensively. "I just assumed that I'd investigate more herbs in the area before filling my nose with the stench of goldenrod, is all." Snowpaw protested, but she had to admit it didn't sound so good out loud.
-
"Can cure scratches and sore pads." Snowpaw meowed smartly as she nodded.
-
"Better smart than dumb" retorted Snowpaw as she picked up a clump of goldenrod.
-
Sighing through a mouthful of the sweetsmelling scented herb, Snowpaw kept track of Mintfrost's scent. The forest was so much bigger than the camp.
-
Snowpaw dropped the goldenrod and decided to help Mintfrost by carrying dock too. But she couldn't carry them both at the same time, so she took a few pawsteps away from the goldenrod. With her tail, she found a giant leaf. Snowpaw dropped the leaf, cleverly bundled the goldenrod and dock onto the giant leaf, rolled it up, and looked up at Mintfrost. "So, where next?"
-
Snowpaw looked disappointed. She was having a good time with her mentor and looking for herbs. "Okay, Mintfrost. I'll carry these back to camp."
-
Snowpaw nodded, looking at Mintfrost, then at Duskpaw, in bewilderment. Then she headed back towards camp.
-
Snowpaw reached the camp entrance, using sound and smell as her resources. Then she arranged the herbs for Mintfrost. Goldenrod in one pile, Dock in the other. Placing them inside his den, Snowpaw then turned and headed for the nursery. She wanted to see how Leopardpatch and the kits were getting along. After all, the apprentice had seen---no---heard the birth with her own ears. She padded into the nursery, "Hi, Leopardpatch, how are the kits?"
-
"Leopardpatch?" Snowpaw called. Maybe the queen was sleeping, or getting a drink. Forcing herself not to worry about the queen, she padded over to the fresh-kill pile. Mintfrost never said I could have a piece, Snowpaw decided to wait until her mentor got back to ask for permission to take a piece. Not that I deserve it, anyways. I haven't even hunted for the Clan. I don't ever think I'll be able to. But as she said the stinging words to herself, she thought, No. I'm a medicine cat apprentice, I help take care of the cats in the Clan. I think I'm giving a fair share of effort.
-
Snowpaw padded right into the commotion. "Yuck. What is that awful smell?" she cried. The white furred apprentice sat down, sniffed disdainfully, and looked around.
-
Snowpaw pads up to Nightstar and Mintfrost. She tilts her head to the side, her icy blue eyes looking at them both. She could sense something was wrong. She could feel it. But she'd better not ask any questions. "Have I earned a piece of fresh-kill?"
