Turtlekit gagged up water, her feeling light-headed and dizzy. Flowertail's face blurring out of focus as she gasped for air, her words echoing in her ears. "D-Did I...... catch... any minnows...?" she asked breathlessly.

"Aww..." she sighed, closing her eyes, hoping to shake off the dizzy feeling. *I hope I didn't hit my head on a rock.* she thought as a sharp pain began to pound in her skull. Exhaustion overcame her aching body and she fell asleep for few seconds.

Tanglefoot raced out of camp and almost collided with Flowertail, sciddling to a halt a few mouselengths away from her. "Oh, sor- Turtlekit!!" he exclaimed, half relieved and half angry at the sopping wet kitten. "W-Where did you - How did she- When - Why is she-" questions raced through his head faster than he could ask them out loud.

Tanglefoot hurried after them and followed Flowertail into the medican cat den, sniffing his daughter all over for any other injuries. He was about to give her a long lecture and scold her, but a faint tint of blood made his heart skip a beat. On the back of her head, a little below her ear, dark, sticky liquid clumped her fur, which was too dark to notice the deep crimson blood right away. He felt his own blood run cold, and his hackles stood on end. Her water-soaked fur must have hid the salty scent. "T-Turtlekit... you didn't hit your head on anything did you?!?" he asked as calmy as he could, panic still creeping into his voice.

Turtlekit looked up at her father with her bright green eyes, the worried look in his eyes was almost too much for her to bear, guilt pouring into her heart. "I'm so sorry!!" she blurted out. "I-I didn't mean too! It was just that I wanted to show you that I could be as good a warrior as you and I was going to catch a big squirrel and I could be made a warrior and I just wanted to sneak out for a few minutes but I don't know what went wrong and I just I-" her eyes began to glisten and her lip trembled. She felt like there was a stone caught in her throat. "I'm so sorry!"

Tanglefoot buried his nose in her fur. "Turtlekit...." he murmered, "Did you hit your head?"

Turtlekit sniffed. "I-I don't know, I don't really remember what happened, all I know is that I fell in and I was thrashing around and the water was trying to choke me, and I didn't know which way was up and which way was down, and then Flowertail pulled me out and brought me here... a-am I gonna be ok?"

Yewleaf felt heat flood into his cheeks and his stomach flutter when Meadowstar nuzzled him. "Don't worry, I'll bring my patrol back in one piece. Promise." With that, he cast her one last glance, looking straight into her bright green eyes, before turning and gathering his patrol.

"This is so exciting! I bet I'll get to fight a fox today and try out my battle training for real!" Clockpaw chattered.

Timetick flexed his claws into the soft ground. "I don't know.... seems kind of... risky.... i-if theres one fox, usually others follow...."
"Foxes travel alone, remember mouse-brain?" the silver-gray apprentice told him, pouncing on his lashing tail.
Timetick took no notice of her pinning his tail to the ground and just shrugged. "Still, I've just got a feeling." He replied, not wanting to argue with her about foxes.

ooc: FORESHADOWING!!!!!! jk, only if you want that to be foreshadowing, or just him being a worrywart, whatever you want.

Yewleaf counted the warriors in his head. "Everyone ready to go?"

ooc: Just foreshadowing that there may be more foxes, but only if you want that to happen. :) Also, sorry for being gone, I was gone all day yesterday.

ic: Yewleaf led the patrol through the territory, keeping up a brisk pace. Clockpaw bounded up to the deputy and fell in step with him, having to walk extra fast to keep up. "So um, Yewleaf, how many foxes are there?"

    "Just one."

"How do you know? Like, what if it has babies or something? Cuz if it attacked Echosong, its probably female because they are more aggressive you know?"

"Then lets hope it doesn't have babies and that theres just one fox." he smiled at the apprentice, but felt uncertainty stir in his stomach. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks, causing Clockpaw to stop abruptly too and lose her balance, falling chin-first on the ground.
    "Ouch...."

On the path in front of them was a rabbit, completely shredded. Its pelt was ripped into pieces, clumps of fur littered the ground, blood splattered the leaves and tree trunks and innards lay in a tangle.

Clockpaw crinkled her nose and almost vomited at the rancid, rotting smell of decay and overwhelming scent of blood that hung over the clearing. "This.... this is disgraceful! What a waste of a perfectly good rabbit It could have fed all the elders AND the queens, and it didn't even finish half of it!"
Warriors had always eaten their prey with polite manners, thanking Starclan for the animal that lost its life to feed the clan, and making sure to bury bones.

Yewleaf dipped his head, not wanting to look at the gruesome corpse. "It was the fox." Suddenly filled with a hatred for the fox who could commit such a dishonorable deed, and attack of one their strong warriors, and waltz into their territory like they were nothing but pesky kits, he stomped his paw against the ground and snarled, "This filth of an animal has no code, no honor, no morality, under no circumstance will we stop to push it out of our territory!" with that, he broke into a full run, sprinting through the forest and checking behind him to make sure the others were following. He followed the scent trail of the fox, its nasty, rancid scent stinging his nose. He hoped to find its den, or better yet, the fox itself.

Thistlecloud burst into the medican cat den, her fur still ruffled and ungroomed from her nap. "Wheres Turtlekit!" she asked, just before spotting the dark tabby kit on the ground and rushing over to her.
Muttering a prayer to Starclan, she began licking the kit vigorously, but gently. "What happened to her?"
Tanglefoot followed seconds after. "She escaped from camp, I think she fell in the stream and hit her head."

ooc: OH OH OH OH CAN MY PATROL RUN INTO A WHOLE BUNCH OF VICIOUS BABY FOXES WITH A LUST FOR CAT BLOOD?!?! :D :D :D

    ic:

As the patrol bounded through the forest, Timetick began to notice something peculiar in a certain, dense area. Every few minutes, he would notice a trampled plant or a tuft of russet colored fur.
"Um, Yewleaf, I-I really hate to interrupt but this might be important,"
"Not now Timetick, we have to find the den and chase out the kits. (yesh, baby foxes are called kits, weird right?) Can it wait?"
"No, its about the foxes, I think we are really near the den..."
"I doubt it, I haven't seen any signs of foxes."
"Well yes, but that's because your going to fast, if you'd slow down you'd notice-"
"We don't have time to slow down! Those foxes could already be eating our prey!"
"You'd notice that the plants are trampled and-"
"Some plants just grow that way. I think your being paranoid again, but theres no need to worry Timetick," Yewleaf patted his shoulder with his tail reassuringly, "We have a big patrol, we can handle a bunch of baby foxes, so you don't have to stress out, just let me do all the tracking, ok?"
"Um, I'm not being paranoid, I've seen tufts of fox fur-"

"Hey!" Clockpaw cut in, "Look! Theres a big clump of fur on that trampled plant over there! And it smells like fox too! I bet we're near the den!"
"Good work Clockpaw, you'll make a fine warrior some day!" Yewleaf praised her, then headed in that direction.
Timetick opened his mouth to say something, but words failed him and he just trudged along, his tabby tail trailing in the dirt.

A fury of screeches and yowls were heard only a little ways away from the second patrol. "That sounds like Meadowstar!" Timetick said, his ears perked up, "And Echoso-"
"MEADOWSTAR?!?" Yewleaf felt fear twist around his heart, his back fur standing on end. Without even giving orders, he bolted off, leaves and grass whipping at his face as he followed the noise. "Meadowstar!"
Please don't be hurt! I don't know what I would do if that happened!

As they came into view, he used his running start to leap high into the air and come down on the fox's haunches, digging his claws into it's back.

Timetick and Clockpaw watched their deputy sprint off suddenly, unsure of what to do now. "Whats up with him?" the gray apprentice asked.
Timetick shrugged, but secrectly, he had been noticing their little glances and nuzzles. They weren't exactly being discreet about it. "Oh, I'm sure hes just worried about the safety of the clan..." he said with a hint of sarcasm, his whiskers twitching with amusement. "We should follow them, the fox kits could have followed the mother and be attacking the warriors." he said a little louder so the rest of the patrol could hear.
They had barely gotten 3 taillengths when a the plants rustled, giving off three low growls.
Naturalley, Clockpaw's first thought was 'Why did that bush growl?' but that quickly turned to 'HOLY STARCLAN' when three, almost fully grown fox kits jumped out, their beady eyes raking across the patrol. Their ugly, narrow snouts bared gleaming white teeth, long and sharp.
Timetick almost passed out, but Clockpaw's claws dug into his arm as she shook him vigerously. "Timetick! Timetick!! What do we do??"
"I-uh, I don't know, we- um, maybe-" but his words were cut off, once again, as the foxes attacked the patrol. The biggest one jumped on Timetick, clamping its jaws around his skinny shoulder, scarlet blood ran down his foreleg. Blinded with searing pain, he claws vainly at the fox's belly, only making a few shallow scratches.

As Fang attacked the fox, it released it's grip and let out a yelp. The pale tabby rolled out from underneath it and hooked its paw, causing it to collapse onto the ground. With his good leg, he sent a few blows to its neck, ignoring the pain in his shoulder. "Thanks," he said to Fang.

Clockpaw sunk her teeth into the tail of anoher fox, hearing it howl in pain, but she refused to let go, even though all its fur in her mouth was making her gag. It spun around, glaring at her with blood-hungry eyes and snapped at her muzzle, but she backed up just in time. Claws unsheathed, she swiped at it, slicing straight through it's nose. It howled again, blood spilling from it's wound and spattering all over the ground. "Now you won't be able to smell your own stench!" she taunted.

"I don't know," Timetick replied as he dogded its quick, tiny paws, "I think I might have run off to the other patrol."

The fox lunged at Clockpaw again, this time she wasn't fast enough and it clamped onto her scruff with an iron grip. "Let go of me foul beast!" she hissed, kicking it in the chest, but it took no notice and threw her to the other side of the clearing painfully, causing her to land on her left paw strangly. "Ow!" All of a sudden she was being picked up again and was shook like a she was nothing but a scrap of fur. Desperatly, she sunk her claws into it's neck as best she could and held on. Her claws went in deep and blood seeped through its thick neck fur, but still it held onto her. The fox stopped shaking her and threw her to the ground again, her head slamming against the root of a tree. Dazed, she felt the fox try to bite her scruff again, but she sunk her claws into it's throat and raked them down to it's chest. The fox yelped, but somehow, that didn't kill it.
"Are you kidding me? Seriously??" Clockpaw panted, looking at the blood running down its chest as it glared right back at her. She felt exhaustion and weakness try to take over her body, and she knew she couldn't keep this up for long.

Timetick looked between the two cats, unsure of who to help. He couldn't abandon Fang, but Clockpaw was only an apprentice, and he cared about her, he couldn't just let her die. "I-I'll come back in a minute ok?" he said to Fang, then rushed off towards the second fox. It swung its narrow head to look at him, waiting for the warrior to jump and attack him, but Timetick wasn't really the type for leap-and-claw attacks. Just as the fox prepared to meet him in midair, he fell to the ground and slid underneath it's russet furred legs, clamping down on its back leg as he did so and yanking out from under him, just as he had done with the first fox, only this time he heard a sickening 'pop/crunch' sound and a high-pitched yelp.

Clockpaw watched the warrior fully dislocate the fox's back leg and couldn't help but snicker at the pitiful creature, limping around with blood soaking its fur and dripping off its split nose, letting out faint whimpers and moans as Timetick gave it strong blows with his good arm. Clockpaw heaved herself to her paws and ignored her sore, aching body and half ran/ half jogged up to the fox, giving it one last swipe to its ear, and it sprinted off as fast as it could with its limp leg dragging behind it, tail between its legs, and leaving a trail of dark crimson droplets.

Clockpaw almost flinched away, not wanting to accept anyone's help, but thought better of it. Afterall, that WAS a pretty vicious fight, she thought as she lightly leaned on his shoulder.

Timetick limped a few tailengths behind them, keeping an eye for the third fox or the first patrol.
