Donovan inwardly gritted his teeth. He remained composed and continued to the stove and set out a large pot. " Because apparently, I needed an apprentice." he muttered again, sarcastically. Looking over at her he waved his hand impatiently " Hurry up and get settled, then retrieve some water from the rain barrel. Beef stew will suite us tonight."

Donovan put the chopped vegetables in the pot and pointed at the cat with his knife. " That Oliver. Careful not to give him too much attention, he has work to do." He told her and returned to his work. He pulled two potatoes from the bin beneath him and started peeling. Stepping away from his work for a second, he quickly lit the fire place and added some freshly chopped wood to the mound of grey ash.

Donovan pulled up to the sidewalk in a Voltswagon and honked the horn. "Ready to go?" He yelled out the open window. His younger brother, Terance was reading a book next to Jessie, Donovan's childhood friend in the backseat while he hooped and waved, smiling like a syco . Donovan's black hair hung over his blue eyes a bit and he smiled as he motioned for her to come on.

He looked at her in amazement " Gillian helped teach you to shoot? Now thats different." He laughed softly and shoveled another spoonful of soup into his mouth. " We'll have to see how well you do tommorow." He commented, somewhat to himself. He was starting to warm up to Talia. Then he frowned and let a barely audiable sigh and returned to his soup.

Donovan then seemed to stumble over his own words " Um, ah, Oh! Yeah, Gillian he- he uh is quite good with a sword so, its not often I hear the words ' Gillian' and 'bow' together. Uh, ha ha....". He paused for a moment to regain control of his mouth. He looked up at her with a hidden sorrow in his steel blue eyes. " I- I'm sorry Talia. Gillian, he- he just should not have sent you here. Not that your a bother or I don't like you. Its just..." He paused for a second to calm down " Its just...Just last year I had accepted my first apprentice. I knew he wasn't ready, but I took him along on a small mission anyways. He.. He didn't live through the mission..." He choked to keep his gaze steady. He did not like mentioning his 13 year old apprentice, Terrence, But he could not keep it bottled up any longer. He felt his hands start to shake and he attempted to stop. Donovan had hounded many people. He had seen enough deaths to give him nightmares. But the hopelesness he felt when Terrence died had just stuck,
like a never ending video that keeps replaying in his mind.
