Bristleclaw took Strixkit to the pond and set her down. The medicine cat rushed over to see her. Bristleclaw collapsed quickly from shallow breathing.

That night the two cats sleapt close to each other. Scarfur dreamt that Sunpaw gave him a fat mouse, but when he bit into it it was full of deathberries.

For the first time it seemed, the kit thought of what kind of warrior she would be. Would she be like her mother or her father?

Crystalgaze was worried about the foxes reaching highstones, For one reason because she was afraid that it would block the path of those who needed to go there. Another was that her secret rogue mate lived near there. She didn't want anything to happen that caused commotion because she wanted to keep their relationship a secret.

The medicine cat began to lick the burns and apply marigold leaves, but the kit was unconcious still. Bristleclaw could scarcly breathe, he needed water but was too weak to even speak.

"Oh. Well you looked sad." said Willowleaf quietly as she walked the fields of stars.

I couldn't sleep all night thinking about Sunpaw's resent to me... thought Scarfur as he rummaged through the fresh-kill pile.

He looked at Sunpaw,"I understand how you feel...I wasn't meant as a replacement, it just happened. I will love you as much as I have ever loved anyone if you will accept me." he began desperately.

"But you can look down on her, right? You could have seen her ceremony, couldn't you? said Willowleaf, exasperated for her friend.

"I can't stand that I never see my motther!" she complained,"My real mother is a ShodowClan cat...it isn't fair!" she said, not knowing better,"But you won't tell anyone, right?"

Bristleclaw was now strong enough t get water from the pond. He also went to check on Strixkit,"Will she make it?" he asked worriedly.

"Oh how dreadful!" cried Willowleaf feeling sorry for her friend,"I was hit by a monster and bled out...wha...what killed you?" she asked
