" Hey, Shy! " Scarlet, a friend of Shy, runs out from behind the nearest building and leaps into the air, landing on all four paws next to Shy. Scarlet lifted her tail proudly, hoping she impressed the new cats. She sniffed. " You guys are from the forest, aren't you? " Scarlet made a face. The smell of the forest smelled of rotting moss and dead fish to her. " Yuck! " she blinked. " I always like my house and yard better. I have all the toys I could ever want, the softest bed, the biggest yard and home; life here rocks! " Scarlet boasted. She was the richest housecat in the whole town. She loved her home, her housefolk, er friends, and everyone else she met; besides the forest cats. She nearly got her fur ripped off last time she met a forest cat. But she knew these cats won't hurt her- well, they probably won't. Scarlet lifted her paw and gave it a quick wash. " What are your names, anyway? "

" Darkpelt? Oh, so you must belong to a Clan. At first, I thought you lived with this whiteish-grayish cat. " Scarlet's eyes widened with wild excitement. " Which one? My father came from ShadowClan, I think. I think his name was... Redshadow or something... " Scarlet could barely remember. Her father told stories of how life in the Clans were; lots of prey, living with a huge family, going to Gatherings and everything. " And, besides, why are you away from the forest? I thought forest cats hated housecats. I'd expect you to be clawing our pelts off by now. "

" Well, yeah, considering your a Clan cat. " Scarlet blinked, licking her paw again. She set her paw down. " Like I said, I thought forest cats hated housecats. " Why are these cats not attacking? Scarlet wondered. The whiteish-grayish she-cat was being silent. Why was she not speaking? Personally, Scarlet was itching for a fight. She dug her claws into the soft grass, trying to keep herself steady. Warrior? Scarlet thought. Do I really want to be a warrior? She pushed the thought away. " So, Darkpelt. Which Clan are you from? I think my father's from ShadowClan, " she repeated.

Scarlet's eyes widened with excitement. " Do you remember any tom from ShadowClan who's name was Redshadow or something? " I might be related to him! Maybe he's a brother. How awesome! Scarlet thought. I have ShadowClan blood, so that might make us related, right? " My father was a brave ShadowClan warrior; he said he fought in many battles with the other Clans! Um... I think they are LighteningClan, um... StreamClan, and BreezeClan. Am I right? I think I'm wrong. " Scarlet struggled to remember the names of the other Clans. Ugh! I'm related to a Clan cat, and I can't even remember the names of the other Clans! How stupid!

" Oh. Cool! My father was taken away to go live with other housefolk months ago. " Scarlet felt like a idiot; she couldn't even remember the names of the other Clans. " He never told me- did he leave, or was he forced to leave? It's been a mystery of mine to solve for a long time now, and he won't tell me! Even when he comes to visit. "

" He just left then? " Scarlet sheathed her claws, sounded worried. Her father just vanished while on a border patrol. That doesn't make any sense. " Why do you think he left? There has to be a reason without telling anyone. " Scarlet's father was smarter than that. He has to have told someone. " Do you have any details? On, like, what time of day he left, or maybe if there was a sign of some sort, like telling a trusted friend? " She itched for details. She now had another mystery on her paws. Scarlet twitched her tail. There has to be some reason! There has to be!

" No trace? Not even scent? " Scarlet had to find out why her father had left. " Your making it sound like he vanished into thin air! " She whispered. Her father was keeping something from her. Maybe she wasn't full housecat; maybe she had been born in the Clan somehow. With a Clan mother and father. Maybe I have to leave my home and become a forest cat in order to find out everything that happened. " My father is keeping something from me. We have to find out, somehow. " Scarlet stood up, her tail lashing. She dug her claws into the soft grass below her. " ShadowClan won't allow me in the Clan, will they? Unless I can prove myself, somehow. " She flexed her muscles; rather large for a housecat. I'm not all housecat. my strength proves that.

Scarlet squinted at Darkpelt. A cat like her. That stung a little. Scarlet sank her claws into the soft earth again, thinking of the forest. Then she smiled. " What if I left my housefolk, break off my collar, and roll around in the dirt and forest ferns for a few days? Then, while your out, you could meet me here and teach me hunting and battle moves. " she suggested. " Then, when the time is right, you could tell your leader about a rouge who knows lots of good hunting and fighting moves. Maybe, if he or she says yes, you could take me to your home and then I can prove myself. " Scarlet began to tug at her collar. She realized that life in the forest could be much better than life as a housecat. " Teach me your customs. " she insisted as she let go of her collar, jumping to her paws. " I want to become a forest cat! A Clan cat! "

Scarlet glanced at Darkpelt, then at Silvermoon with a hopeful look in her eyes. Then, she dashed to the nearest Twoleg thing; a metal stick in the ground. Scarlet wrapped part of her collar around it, and began to tug. Her collar tightened around her neck, making it hard to breath. She knew she had to pull harder. She did so, feeling part of the collar starting to rip. Until finally, there was a snap, and Scarlet found it easier to breath She bounced backwards, nearly loosing balance. She glanced at the Twoleg stick. Her pink collar was on the groundnext to it, mangled, broken in half. Her tag gleamed in the moonlight. She was free from her housefolk, at last.

Scarlet stared at Darkpelt in hope. " Help me learn more about my father. I'd rather die than not find out everything about my father. " she blinked, her ear twitching. The scar on Scarlet's face seemed to make it more likely that she's a forest cat, not a kittypet. " This is my destiny. If not, this leads to my destiny. Please. " Scarlet strained to not let her voice wail like a kit's. Please, Scarlet repeated in her mind.

Scarlet flicked her ears, then sighed. " Thank you. Now, It's late, so you guys better head home. Back to ShadowClan. " she meowed. " Meet me back here when ever you can. I'm not going anywhere. " She gave a slight smile. Her destiny was now set. " Darkpelt, you can teach me battle moves. Silvermoon, you can teach me hunting techniques. You don't have to if you don't want to, though, Silvermoon. " Scarlet explained. She didn't want anyone helping is they didn't want to help. " Darkpelt, I can't thank you enough. You don't have to if you don't want to. " Scarlet sat back down. She was going to need plenty of training before being a true Clan cat; she never hunted before. But she fought before. In lots of battles. When kittypets got jealous of her and her rich life, they fought her for some of her toys, or to take her place. Her claws sheathed. She glanced at Darkpelt, then at Silvermoon. The two ShadowClan cats both looked as if they were about to pass out. " You two need rest. You look as if you've been awake for the past moon. "

She yawned, realizing how sleepy she was. Before anyone could say anything more, Scarlet dashed her way to the nearest tree. She leaped, dug her claws into the bark, and climbed her way to the nearest branch. She gathered leaves and ferns growing on the tree and made a soft nest on the branch. She nodded to Darkpelt and Silvermoon, then curled up in the nest. Before she, and probably everyone else, knew it, she was fast asleep in the small nest of leaves and ferns on the thick, steady branch; she seemed to be purring. Her tail twitched as she dreamed unknown dreams. [i]Father, you kept too much from me... I will now find out your secrets.[i]

Scarlet breathed heavily, quietly murmuring in her sleep. Her claws unsheathed and sheathed, clawing at the nest and bark beneath her. She slightly smiled, she tail twitching with excitement. " Mrrow... " Scarlet meowed quietly, her whiskers quivering. Then her breathing quickened, then slowed back into a normal way. She mewed again, then the rest of her sleep was peaceful.

A pale ginger she-cat stared across the RiverClan border. She had been exiled moons ago for trying to kill Bearstar in his sleep to become leader. She sank her claws into the ground. She could have done it, if one of his mouse-brained warriors had been awake. The she-cat stared at the moon. Then, the scent of another cat hit her nose.
She whipped around. " I know your here! " she hissed, her fur bristling. " Show yourself! " The pale ginger she-cat unsheathed her thorn-sharp claws. " You can't hide forever! "
