Is it just me, or is this getting a bit tense?!
Jaystar watched the goings-on with mild amusement and confusion. He loved his son, of course, but it was important not to treat him differently. Besides, it was good to play. He watched them chase; but then it seemed to go a bit wrong. He stood up, then his eyes narrowed when he heard Stonekit's snarl. My son is not weak. He flashed a glance over at Bramblesong. Follow him. Make sure he doesn't get into trouble. I'll take Hoppaw out. He hoped his deputy had understood; he sensed trouble was brewing. Bounding over to Stonekit and Hoppaw, he meowed brightly but with a stern note, "Hoppaw- come on. I'm taking you to practise those hunting techniques today, remember? And Stonekit, you can go patrolling with Bramblesong. It'll be good practise for when you're an apprentice- it's not long, now." He did not mention the play-fight, sensing that Stonekit had not meant to hurt Reedkit, and that with proper training he would lean to master his strength.
Squirrelkit watched from th nursery with narrowed eyes. How DARE he insult my brother? she fumed, but seeing with a flash of pride that Hoppaw was dealing with him, and now her father, she went over to join Reedkit. "How dare he call you weak?" she snarled. "He had no right. At all."
Harepaw woke with a jolt. His eyes snapped open. Getting up, he went past Cloudpaw to sniff at Windpaw's leg. It was doing well, healing quickly. It would be fine in a few days, like he'd predicted. Harepaw felt a warm glow of pride. He liked getting things right, especially with cats he thought he could get along with, like Windpaw or Cloudpaw.
