Shadedmask lifted his nose to the air and breathed deeply, scenting the aroma of small prey-things scuffling about in the dirt, underneath the leaf-litter that covered the ground. Dipping low to the ground, he tried to pinpoint their exact location and managed to find a scent trail that led off to the side a bit. The seal point tom hoped that the rest of his patrol wouldn't mind if he veered off a ways, and followed the scent trail.
He moved stealthily, steadily, and slowly, weaving around the trees until he saw the critter that had left the path: a mouse, sitting by itself, nibbling nonchalantly on a seed it must have picked up somewhere off the ground, or plucked from high in the trees.
Trying not to alert the mouse to his presence, Shadedmask quietly crouched into the hunting position he had become so familiar with and softly crept forward, keeping his tail above the ground so it wouldn't make any unwanted shuffling noises.
Then, he waited for the opportune time to strike.

Twilightpaw cheered the other apprentices' names, calling out "Cedarpaw! Cypresspaw!" It was always fun to have more apprentices in the den, since it made it warmer and much cozier. Obviously, it was still stocked to the brim with she and her siblings, since there were five of them, but, more the merrier, she always thought. "Cedarpaw!
