  • On the edge {of the river} {o}

    Bright, clear leaf-fall sun shone through the trees as Coralreef emerged from the forest, her tail held high. The dappled shadows on her back gave way to full sun as she stepped out onto the rocks, bleached white by the constant light beating down on them. It was a fine day to go fishing. Raising her nose to sniff at the air, all Coralreef detected was the autumn air, clean with just the slightest bite, and a faint whiff of apples. Looked like she was alone. She leaped from rock to rock, barely putting her full weight on each stone before bouncing to the next.


    When she arrived at the water, the warrior gazed down at the rushing water, passing her by at high speeds, off to see new lands. Turquoise eyes were covered for a brief second as Coralreef blinked, clearing away any of the spray caused by shallow water going over rocks. The river was clear today, allowing a cat to see to the bottom, even in the middle where it got about three or four foxlengths deep. Ideal conditions for catching fish to feed the ever hungry clan.


    Standing ankle deep in the water, Coralreef watched with careful eyes for a fish. There! A dark shadow passed just below the surface, moving at the same speed as the current. The tortoiseshell's paw shot into the water and flattened the shadow. But it was the wrong texture for a fish. Turning over her paw and pulling it out of the water to get a closer look at the object, all the she-cat saw was a wet leaf plastered to her claws. For a second, a shiver of frustration passed through Coralreef's body, but, ever good-natured, she decided that it was rather humorous. Letting the leaf get back to its trek down the river, she turned her focus back to the river once more, hoping for a real fish this time.
