I think it's just the same as a long-distant relationship, and I believe they are both the same as normal ones.

My character Sunnykit is going to become an apprentice with her brother Lavakit [peo] and so I need a mentor for her!
I would prefer a tom, but that doesnt really mater, and as I said in the title, I'd like him/her to be kind and fun but to also be hard on her.

"Orion!" A powerful, yet friendly voice called. The voice was followed by the large ginger tabby that was Fire of The Swooping Phoenix.
His once handsome face had now been savaged and scared by an eagle that was anything but happy to be prey, this hadn't brought him down though, he approached everything with the same happy attitude he always had.

Phoenix blinked up at Orion. Starreader had been one of his dreams as a kit and he was sure his eye-sight was sure to go down hill now with his scars, which would make him a lousy prey-hunter at best...
"I'd like to try for the position," He meowed, "If you'll allow me." he added, dipping his head.

Phoenix sat down and wrapped his tail over his paws, ready to listen to whatever he needed to hear if he had a chance to become a Starreader.

Phoenix nodded slowly, taking in the information with interest. He raised his tail to show he had a question, "Are those cats in the story of the beginning of the Clans and Tribes?" he'd heard it when he was a kit, it had been his favourite story.

Slang is very annoying, unless it is used when necessary.

OOC: Sorry I was gone! I've been buried in school work

BIC: Phoenix bounded after the other cats, "Sorry I'm so late," he panted through chattering teeth, "I'm not to good with the cold weather..."
He stood a little far away, unsure if he was to late, he didn't want to break any rituals that they might be doing.

Phoenix nodded thankfully at them, "Thank you Orion!" he replied, then began to quickly and nimbly, but very carefully, pick his way across to the others.
He trotted the last bit until he stood behind Leaf, he gave a huge smile and his good eye shone with determination, even if the cold weather was hard on him.

Phoenix reached the top last. It was amazing.
"This is beautiful..." he said, his ears pricked up in awe at the view from the height.

Phoenix copied the others, laying on the cold stone. A coldness swept his whole body until he fell asleep. When he woke up again he wasn't sure if it had worked, he was still in the same place... then he looked up and saw the starry cats, as well as Orion, Leafstorm and Bull.
He got to his paws and dipped his head at the starry figures in greeting. He felt slightly self concious of his face, but he was sure these old cats had seen far worse before.

Ohohoho. Me again, that is if anyone still remembers me... Anyway, Hi! I've returned... again ^^;
