    Username: Annilalate
    [Character] Name: M'kael
    Age: 19
    Gender: Male
    Alliance: Weyr
    Rank: Wingsecond
    Dragon Color: Bronze
    Firelizard Colors: None.
Appearance: M'kael is of medium height, about 5'7". He is solidly built. His straight, black hair falls down to about his shoulders. He usually ties it back into a ponytail to keep it out of the way. His eyes are a vibrant hazel, often gleaming green before changing to a muddled brown. He has a scar across his left shoulder from when he was attacked by a blue hatchling the year he impressed on Monolith.
Personality: M'kael is usually quiet and introverted, but he is quick to anger regarding his weyrmate. He is not sure how he feels about the prospect of being Weyrleader should his weyrmate's dragon rise first.
History: M'kael grew up in Benden Hold with his two younger sisters, where his name was Mikeal. He does not much like talking about his old life as he was bullied mercilessly for having a crush on his best (male) friend. He ran away to Benden Weyr when he was 13. He was a candidate the next turn, where a bronze, Monolith, impressed on him. In his years of being a dragonrider, M'kael became a Wingsecond, and has been the only rider whose dragon has caught Priorith. M'kael is also Priorith's rider's weyrmate.
Other: M'kael is often content to laze about in an open field looking at the sky when he isn't attending his Wingleader, though he'd rather be spending time with Aria. M'kael doesn't say much, but prefers the company of others, though he'd rather be alone than with people he doesn't know well. He is bisexual, a trait that caused him to exile himself from his home in Benden Hold. Due to his bad experiences in Benden Hold, he never mentions his attraction to males, and after being impressed by a bronze has increased in his efforts to keep it hidden.

    Name:Monolith
    Rider: M'kael
    Color: Bronze
    Age:5 turns
Personality: Monolith is a reserved dragon, and generally does not associate with other dragons outside of his wing. He also does not associate well with humans who are not riders in his wing, his own rider, and his rider's weyrmate.
Other: Monolith's favorite place to sunbath is on a cliff overlooking the lake at noon.

M'kael stood on the edge of the rocky cliff, gazing out towards the sparkling lake. He saw the shiny form of his weyrmate's gold dragon, Priorith, lazing about, and he could just make out the sitting form of his Aria next to the behemoth. His own dragon was snoozing behind him, soaking up the sun's rays. It was quiet, with a slight wind that caused M'kael's hair to splay out behind him in one of the rare instances it wasn't tied back.

M'kael sat down with his legs hanging over the edge of the cliff and gazed up at the passing clouds. "That one looks like a firelizard..." he muttered to the wind.

A roar that M'kael knew well shook him from his reverie. He glanced down at the lake to find that the waters were now occupied by a green dragon and her rider. "Hmmm..." He leaned forward to try and get a closer look, but was unable to tell who the two were. Monolith stirred from his slumber, hearing his queen. He approached the cliff beside M'kael and peered down. Company, Kael. "Wanna go say hi?" Monolith verbally hrumphed, refusing to even dignify the question with an answer. "Didn't think so." Monolith backed away from the edge of the cliff and plopped back down, spreading his wings in the sun.

Monolith murred and sent off waves of contentment when he felt his queen's presence. He edged a little closer to Priorith and nodded off.

M'kael touched Aria's hands. "You're starting to get as sleepy as your queen on a lazy day, my dear. Our little bundle is taking a lot out of you." He stood and turned, snaking his arms around her waist. "Go to bed, I'll get something from the Lower Caverns for you." M'kael kissed Aria's forehead. "Tell me what you want and I'll see what I can do. I'll only be a few moments."

The afternoon sun shone on Aria's hair, creating a fiery halo of her locks. M'kael smiled. It seemed like Aria grew more beautiful with each passing day. A cloud passed in front of the sun, but it appeared to him as if the fire hadn't gone out. Indeed, it looked like it had grown brighter.

M'kael patted Monolith, running his hand over his dragon's leathery hide. "I'll be back soon, big guy." The bronze opened one eye and huffed, flashing a feeling of irritation at being bothered for something that didn't concern him when he was resting. M'kael shook his head, a small grin on his face. He was accustomed to the Lower Cavern trips, sometimes making several a day. He climbed down the rock face of the cliff and slipped to the grassy field around the lake. There was a commotion, with several dragonriders and their dragons gathered around one of Benden Weyr's golds.

M'kael's grin fell away and was replaced by a stony mask. He dreaded contact. He sighed, and strode off toward the congregation, unfortunately placed in his way.

Monolith huffed, irked that his mate had left him. He shook out his wings and stretched his legs. The bronze stood and shuffled back to the edge, glaring at the dragons that had caused the gold displeasure. He curled back up at the entrance to M'kael's and Aria's quarters and closed his eyes, vowing that this would be the last time his nap was interrupted

M'kael had nearly come up on the goldrider and her admirers when Priorith landed in front of him. She was angry, and M'kael knew that an angry Priorith was a dangerous Priorith. On second thought, Priorith in ANY mood was dangerous. He came up beside her and placed his hand on her leg. "Hey girl, calm down... We don't need any maimings."

Monolith stirred in his sleep. He heard another dragon trying to tell him something, but he dismissed her with an angry Leave me alone! He growled a verbal warning and scraped his claws across the rocks.

Priorith's display didn't last long before she took off and headed back towards their quarters. The gathered males had found more interesting places to be and also left in a hurry. That left Malori, Nimhailleth, and M'kael. Feeling most awkward standing there with the other rider, he tried to find an easy way to escape. "Well... Ah... Good day Malori, Nimhailleth. I need to head down into the Lower Caverns. Aria asked me to do a food run, and well... Um... I'm rambling, aren't I?" he spurted out whilst scratching the back of his head.

    ((Oh snap is right.))

M'kael tensed. He really didn't want to be here right now. "Malori... Don't you think there are better ways to...express your...distaste in how Aria acts? Granted there are...some points to what you say. But yelling isn't the best way to get your...thoughts across. Perhaps a...friendly conversation over...a slab of bacon and some soothing tea?" M'kael picked his words carefully, eying the entrance to the Lower Caverns over his shoulders. Confrontations were not his thing, especially when it wasn't him in the argument.

M'kael stepped into the kitchen just behind Aria. His weyrmate made a beeline for Headwoman Tamfa, but he stood still and sniffed the air. Through the thick odors of cooking meats and fish, M'kael was just able to detect the scent of a slab of bacon cooking over a flame. He noticed one of the kitchen workers standing over a pot, and realized he recognized her after a second. It was Gera stirring the stew.

As M'kael strode over to her, avoiding the bustling workers, he noticed that the smell of cooking bacon was growing stronger. Perfect, he thought. It's right here. "What're you cooking, Gera?" he said when he was close enough to peer into the pot.

Monolith's eyes snapped open. Irritation rolled off of him in nearly tangible waves. Today was not his day for sleeping. He shook himself off and looked to the sun. It was getting to low in the sky to sunbathe, anyway. I shall follow. I'm starting to feel hungry myself. And it's not like I'll be able to sleep much more this day. Monolith snapped his wings open and launched himself off the rocky cliff, enjoying the feeling of soaring as he always had.Circling around the lake, he noticed a green, Nimhailleth, in the waters below. It was she who had tried to contact him earlier. He called out to her. I apologize for my rudeness earlier. It was unwarranted. I was tired and snappish.

He also noticed another bronze like himself whom he did not recognize, but he did not want to engage in conversation with the younger male, and instead took off at a leisurely pace towards the feeding grounds.

"I--She--But..." Before M'kael could reply, Tamfa had hurried away, leaving him a stuttering fool. "That's what I was doing. Bringing the message. She came of her own volition..." he muttered to midair, shaking his head. "That woman's a bit...powerful, wouldn't you agree?" M'kael tilted his head toward Gera. He leaned his hand against the pot on the flame before jumping away, biting back swears, mimicking Ildith by waving his hand in the air.

"Ah, thanks Gera..." M'kael heard Jade call out and his face blanched. "Labor? That can't be, it's a month and a half early!" He jerked his hand away from Gera and ran to where his weyrmate was clutching the table. The healer's apprentice had said something about getting her back to their quarters... "There's no time for that... She can't be moved that far right now. We need to get her to the closest available bed." M'kael put his uninjured hand over Aria's. "It's going to be okay..." he murmured.

M'kael blinked. "Crowd...control? Right, right. I can do that." M'kael patted Aria's hand and kissed her forehead. "Hang in there, doll... Our baby will be here soon." He rushed past Gera without a second glance, stepping into the hall.

Normally spacious, it seemed like the hall was tightening around him. M'kael's breathing quickened as he started panicking. He leaned against a wall to re-gather his composition. Taking a few deep breaths, he made his way along the hall before coming to the first door.

M'kael smashed his fist against the door in a brutal imitation of knocking. "HELLO? IS ANYONE IN THERE?" he bellowed at the door.

He heard shuffling inside, and the door flew open. "What do you WANT?!" A slim teenaged looking boy opened the door, rubbing his eyes. He pulled off the sleepily indignant look well.

"I'm sorry for disturbing you, but my weyrmate is going into labor NOW and we need your room."

The teen blinked. It took a second before the words hit him. He stepped out. "Yeah, sure, go ahead."

M'kael put his hand on the younger teen's shoulder. "Thank you." The adolescent shrugged him off. "Anyone would do it."

"I know she is... But it's so sudden! So early. God, I know she'll be fine... But I can't help but worry, you know? Not just for Aria... But for our child too." M'kael hung his head and clenched his fists. "I...know what it's like for a premature child to not survive... It hurts. It hurts everyone."

The teenager whose room M'kael had commandeered was slowly inching away. He had wanted to enjoy his day off in peace, lazing around in his room.

Kael, she'll be fine. The baby will be fine. You worry too much. M'kael heard Monolith reach out to him from the feeding grounds. I am not concerned with her health, or the baby's health, but instead I'm concerned about how much of a handful the child will be. Infants stink. M'kael could just see Monolith's snout wrinkle in disgust. AND they're loud. M'kael had to chuckle at that last one. Let's hope this one is extra loud so that it can tell us its alive, M'kael shot back. He could just feel the exasperation from Monolith, even from this distance.

M'kael mumbled in his sleep, snuggling closer to the warmth his weyrmate was giving off. He had been up late the night before, eyes practically glued open as he wondered about his son. When he finally slept, he even had a dream about his Nikolas at an Impressing ceremony. The dream ended before M'kael saw the conclusion. He then dreamt of his son flying and fighting Thread, but the dragon never seemed to be the same color twice.

He felt his mate shift against him and sighed. He wasn't awake, not really... But he still heard the knock and Gera's voice at the door. M'kael struggled to stay lucid, but it was a losing battle, and he fell into that place between awake and asleep.

Monolith was swimming in the lake, splashing about and having a blast doing it. He had been a bit stressed along with his rider the last few days and needed some down time. Then he heard Priorith's call and all thoughts of aquatic merriment left his mind. All of Monolith's muscles tensed as he threw himself into the air. He soared high and rocketed off with all the speed his 30 foot frame could muster toward the center of the Bowl where his queen stood. He felt the surprise from M'kael, as well as his worry for Aria.

Monolith soared after the queen, his wings beating hard against the air. He shot through the sky, an arrow of muscle and claw and pure might. Monolith had one thing in mind--catch Priorith. No other could have her.

Monolith saw a flash of bronze flying through the air and pushed himself harder. Another bronze was going for Priorith! He couldn't have that.

Monolith arched down, picking up speed in a dive before leveling off, determined to be the one to catch his queen.

M'kael finally climbed out of his slumber in time to hear the door open. "Mmmf... There's someone here, sweeting... That's hardly appropriate..." M'kael's right eye opened. "Hello Gera... Thanks for the food." He yawned behind his fist and sat up in bed. M'kael rested his hand on his weyrmate's knee, unconsciously leaning closer to Aria.

"Nikolas is supposed to return later today... Shards, he'll be about your age by now, won't he?"

Monolith rose up after Priorith, his multifaceted eyes locked on her golden form. His wings were a blur as he flew higher and higher toward the queen. There would be nothing that could get in his way. Not the other bronze, not his own limits, nothing.

"Sit, Gera, you don't have to stand." M'kael motioned toward a chair. "You're a friend here." He stretched and yawned, rolling his left shoulder. It was always stiff in the mornings. "I hope he's Impressed a dragon. We need more Threadfighters... The Pass is almost on us."

M'kael felt Monolith stirring. Lith, take the day off. The wing has no need of me today. He could practically feel how lazy the bronze was feeling. The news was definitely welcome to M'kael's dragon. I'll take full advantage of it, Kael. The dragon spread his wings and took off towards the lake. He was overdue for a bath.
