Elanore stepped into the gathering, lip curled in barely contained discust. Her long fluffy tail lashed, and her harsh silver eyes observed every cat participating in the event. Her dull gray collar was tattered and hugged her neck tightly, lacking the traditional dog-teeth many BloodClan warriors had.

Elanore sat silently beneath a dying willow, her eyes closing briefly to take in the sweet scent of the forest. Her calm was short-lived when a small, bright ginger kit bounced up to her, pale amber orbs alight with excitement.

"You better get back to your mother, kit. Not many friendly cats 'round here. Including me." Elanore narrowed her harsh silver eyes at Foxkit, who just fluffed up her fur and said, "I ain't no mouse-heart! I'ma be a deputy someday, y'know!"

Elanore rolled her eyes, lifting a paw to her muzzle and swiping her tounge roughly over it. "Sure you will. But you'll be surprised about how many kits have said that, before."

Foxkit huffed a breath at the Bloodclan she-cat, standing taller. "I will! I will become a deputy!" Why couldn't this cat believe her?

Elanore ignored the kit's insistent words, focusing on another clanmate of hers not too far away.

Foxkit, annoyed, growled: "You'll see, when I'm a deputy, you're gonna have to appologize!" With that, the bright ginger kit flounced away.

Ugly sat soundly beside the long-furred cream tabby, tail curling over her paws. "I talked to my daughter the other day. It seems she had kits." Ugly murmured, and Elanore bristled. Ratface, Ugly's grown daughter and a Shadowclan warrior, had left Bloodclan for a tom who was nothing but trouble. "Does that worthless Bonemarrow have anything to say?" Elanore growled, ears flat. Ugly spat, "No. It seems the putrid waste of space left as soon as Ratface had her kits."

That made Elanore want to slice the tom's throat out slowly. "How could he do that? Leave his mate as soon as his own kits are born?" Her fangs gleamed an eerie chalk-white. "I've seen kittypets with more backbone!" Ugly nodded, claws digging into the dry earth.

Elanore looked over at her old friend, murmuring, "Well, maybe Ratface is better off without a coward like Bonemarrow." Ugly looked depressed, "Yes, probably. But what about the kits? Never knowing your father can be very frustrating."

Elanore shrugged, "I never cared much about my family. You raised me to be the cat I am today. For that, I am grateful." Ugly smiled and licked the top of Elanore's head. "Would you like to see Ratface's kits? She's letting me keep two." Elanore grinned, "Of course!"

Getting to her paws, Ugly motioned for Elanore to follow her. Elanore nodded to her friend and followed, weaving through a large group of cats clustered together. Near the center of them all was a ragged-looking gray she-cat, with one pale gray eye and a scarred face. Just like her mother... Elanore thought sadly. Four kits were writhing under the she-cat's belly, mewling and shoving at each other.

Rustkit and Ironkit pushed their other two siblings out of the way. They were the bullies of the litter.

Ratface smiled at her mother, and her best friend. Well, ex-best friend. "This," she pointed to a dark ginger she-kit with flecks of gray, "is Rustkit. This," she motioned to a steel-gray tabby tom, "is Ironkit." She named two other of her kits, a bright blue-gray tom and a calico tom, Oceankit and Earthkit.

Elanore looked down at the kits. The tom, Ironkit, looked a lot like his mother and grandmother. She felt like sighing, but couldn't bring herself to ruin Ratface and Ugly's moment together. Daughter and mother rarely got to see each other. As she watched the she-cats talk, she wondered if her mother ever cared about her as much as Ugly cared for Ratface.

Ironkit opened his cobalt-blue eyes and gazed up at Elanore, expression unreadable. Her heart froze. Why is he looking at me like that? She thought, fur bristling slightly. Rustkit stepped on her brother's head, and Ironkit reluctantly took his focus away from Elanore.

"Get off of me!" Ironkit growled and shoved Rustkit away. Ugly smiled, while Ratface sighed and pulled the siblings away. "If they're in Bloodclan, we'll call them Iron and Rust. Is that okay?" Ugly asked her daughter, and Ratface nodded reluctantly. Elanore smiled stiffly, but her heart was still racing.

Ironkit fluffed up his fur. "I'm just superior." He stated matter-of-factly. His steel-gray tabby pelt gleamed in the moonlight, and his cobalt-blue eyes shone like twin stars. Rustkit herself was rather dull-looking, like her mother.
