OOC: Great! And I wonder where they went? Florida? I bet Florida's nice this time of year...

IC: Palestorm closed her eyes and shook her head. "I don't think I need to head back quite yet." The night was still silky dark, though perhaps a shade lighter than previously. "I need to be back by dawn though, just in case." Then she blinked, looking at Grimgrin questioningly. "Swimming? Has the water warmed from the snowmelt already?"

Thrushpaw followed the tabby, Poppykit close in tow. She had not known Hiro well, but he had been kind to her and her sister when they became a tentative part of RefugeClan. Unsure of whether to approach the she-cat any closer, she settled a few tail-lengths behind her. Poppykit pressed into her fur and stared up at her sister with sadness in her hazel eyes. Thrushpaw curled her tail around the calico, and she closed her eyes. Though there were many things her sister may not fully understand, death was one that she did.

Thrushpaw went after the medicine cat, padding silently up to the still brown tabby and bowed her head for a few moments. Finally, she murmured a "Thank you," and licked his shoulder a few times.

"Thank you," Poppykit echoed, then blinked. "You were really nice!" She nuzzled his underside, then followed her sister's example by licking his fur. Both cats stayed a moment longer, until Thrushpaw got to paws and padded in the direction of the nursery. Poppykit followed, tail drooping slightly.

OOC: Sounds nice, right? And can cats smile? o.O

IC: Palestorm purred in amusement. "Sounds fun." She was about to ask a question, but when she opened her muzzle to speak, she found herself saying, "Maybe I'll tag along." Then she blinked, realizing what she had said. "If I have time. I promised to go on patrol."

A sleepiness began crawling its way into her body, and she yawned.

The two sisters sat side-by-side just outside the nursery, watching the darkening sky. Poppykit was pressed against her sister's tabby fur, fidgeting slightly. Thrushpaw closed her eyes and filled her lungs with the evening air. Her eyes reopened a moment later when Poppykit tapped her with her tail. "What's Hiro doing in StarClan right now?" she meowed, staring at her sister with wide eyes.

Thrushpaw thought for a moment, before she began to speak, lightly, as one would when telling a story. "Maybe he's hunting. In StarClan, the lands are always full of all sorts of prey; rabbits, mice, squirrels...Or maybe he's talking to the other cats up there. Many of them are wise, so I bet he'll learn a lot. Maybe he's watching us right now..." Her eyes got a gleam of mischief in them, as she stealthily ran her tail down Poppykit's back. The calico squeaked, and giggled. Then Thrushpaw sombered. "Or standing beside Asterstar. They loved each other very much."

Poppykit nodded seriously, eyes still wide. "They'll both be sad, maybe for a long time," she continued. "But perhaps time will help them be happier again."

    OOC: Hooray for filler posts!

Palestorm nodded, appreciation shining in her sleepy amber eyes. She was glad he understood her position. It took her a moment to register that Lostkit had spoken, but his words did and she responded. "No, of course not." She flicked his ear with her tail and glanced at Grimgrin, wondering if he knew this bit of information or if he, too, was hearing it for the first time. "You were only a kit!"

She yawned again, slowly rising to her paws. "I think it's time I head back, or I'll fall asleep on the way."

OOC: Ooh, plot twist (kind of). I'll bite. Not sure about Thrushpaw's feelings yet though, she barely knows him. We'll have to wait and see... I warn you, though. I'm not one of those people that likes love to spring up between them in three posts. It may take time! ;)

IC: Thrushpaw glanced around camp, then jumped slightly as her sister pounced on her tail. "Aren't you a little old for that?" the tabby teased, pulling her tail out from under the calico's sheathed paws.

"You weren't listening!" Poppykit insisted, whiskers twitching. Thrushpaw could tell she had one of her ideas again. "I want to go hunting. Pleeease, can we go?!"

The thought of Poppykit out in mostly-unfamiliar territory always made her pelt prickle uneasily, but Thrushpaw was happy she had an excuse to say no, at least for a moon longer. "Not tonight, Poppy...kit." She was still trying to get used to her sister's new name. "When you're an apprentice, you'll be taken out, I promise."

Poppykit was expecting this answer, since she had been asking every night since their arrival. She always anticipated her sister talking about when she was an apprentice though, which was the main reason she continued to ask. "And Cardinalstorm will be my mentor!" She mewed happily.

Thrushpaw purred with amusement. "Yes, he will."'

Poppykit nodded vigorously, then stuck her head in the nursery entrance. "Moonsong, are your kits here yet?"

OOC: That's cool with me. xD Seems like with Thrushpaw's overprotectiveness will be an obstacle for him, too.

Thrushpaw appraised the apprentice, though not unkindly. She briefly met his gray gaze before quickly looking away. She glanced worriedly at the colorful sky which marked the lateness of the day. "I don't know about that..."

Poppykit, who had recently pulled her head out from the nursery den with disappointment in her demeanor, perked up at once. "Oh please, Thrushpaw? I'll behave!"

"No," she mewed, attempting to be firm. Why put these ideas into her head? she wondered, somewhat grumpily.

A pout momentarily settled on her face, before a winning expression replaced it. "I can look around the territory, so I know it better! That'll be helpful too, won't it?"

Thrushpaw admitted she had a good point, but then glanced at Valiantpaw's curled paw. What if something attacks them? They already know badgers are in the forest, who knows what else--

But her train of thought was interrupted by Poppykit's chantings of "Please, please, please!" She shook her head in annoyance and sighed. "All right, all right!" Then she eyed the gray and white apprentice. "But I'm going too."

Despite herself, Thrushpaw found her rigid demeanor lessening. She leaned forward slightly, took a sniff, and recoiled. "I thought catmint was supposed to smell good!" she commented, staring at the plant curiously. Poppykit followed her sister's example and sniffed the plant, but she inhaled more of it than the red tabby had and sneezed.

Thrushpaw nodded. She scanned the ground behind him, and Poppykit did the same. "There!" she squeaked pointing with her tail at a plant to the left of Valiantpaw. Thrushpaw padded over and sniffed it. "I think it is!" She touched her sister's shoulder with her tail. "Good job." She mimicked the apprentice's actions, pulling the plant up gently by the stem.

Trying to ignore the smell, she looked back at Valiantpaw with a question in her blue eyes. "Are we going to carry everything we find, or will we leave it somewhere, like how you do to freshkill when you're hunting?" The tabby was just as new to herb gathering as Poppykit was.

As the horrible black-white creature lumbered into view, Thrushpaw pressed low to the ground, fur fluffed up and ears pressed back. Her eyes were wide with fear, and she was ready to bolt at any moment. When Valiantpaw yowled for them to run, a brief worry for him flared inside her, but she obliged. Her first duty was to her sister. She grabbed the terrified kit by the scruff and bolted towards the direction of camp, which hadn't been far away to begin with.

"Badger!" she yowled around kit fur as she burst into camp. Her heart was thudding painfully in her chest. Poppykit was soon repeating the warning with her.

OOC: Thrushpaw and Poppykit are actually back at camp. They fled from the badger. c:

IC: Poppykit squeezed into the nursery, limping slightly. As Thrushpaw had carried her back, her hind paw had snagged on the thorns of a plant. Though there was no blood, the slight throbbing was undeniably there. The kit hobbled over to Moonsong and gave a shaky sigh as she flopped down next to her. Slowly, her tremors began to calm.

She was an impulse adopt that I have been unable to find a good story for. It's hard for me to roleplay a little kit on her own! Take care of her! :D
