    Chapter 1

Deertail wadded dried oak leaves into the nursery wall.
“Is this good?” He asked his friend, Iceflower.
“Feels like it did when we were kits.” She said with a laugh.
“I take that as a yes.” Deertail replied.
“Yes, it is nice for Icekit and Dragonkit.” She nearly choked on her words. Deertail felt a pang of both sorrow and pity. Her mate, Dragonwing, died in battle. He died protecting her and their kits.
Featherpaw entered the den and the conversation ended abruptly. She carried a bundle of herbs.
“I brought some thyme and lavender to make the den smell good, and marigold to heal wounds.” Featherpaw announced. Iceflower ate the thyme and smelled the lavender that Deertail hung from the top of the small den. Stoneface’s kits were play fighting out in the hollow. Featherpaw chewed the marigold and pressed it on Iceflower and Deertail’s wounds. After she pressed it on their wounds she left to heal the rest of the tribe. Iceflower winced as the marigold seeped into her wounds.
“Do you think we’ll ever see Skull or Jadon again?” Iceflower asked.
“I hope not. We fought tooth and claw to get them and their tribe out of here.” It was not Deertail who spoke, but Brambletail. “That skull is the meanest rogue I’ve ever met.”
“I agree.” Iceflower agreed. Icekit squirmed as if she knew what was going on.
“I brought you guys some moss.” Brambletail said as he gave Iceflower, Stoneface, and Jayfeather some moss. Jayfeather just nodded. Jayfeather didn’t talk much since Lizardkit was killed by Skull.
Deertail remembered how it happened, according to Yarrowkit.
They were exploring the territory when they accidentally crossed thru Marshtribe territory and right into Skulltribe territory. When the kits were missing, Deertail went looking for them. He got to Skulltribe just in time to see Skull crush the poor kit with no mercy. There was a look of satisfaction on Skull’s face. Deertail brought the remaining kits back home.
Deertail nosed the kit on the cheek and hurried out of the nursery.
He breathed in the fresh, crispy air. The ground was covered in a light frost. He heard the leader crunching her way up to the Meeting log.
“All cats able to walk please come to Meeting log.” Hollowstar announced as the rest of the tribe began crunching their way up to the log. Deertail sat in front of the log. “This frost says the end of Old Berry is coming closer. We have to begin storing any prey we catch. Elders, queens, healers, and sick cats must be fed first. Any leftover’s will be fed to the learners first, then warriors.”
Hollowstar looked down at Jayfeather’s kits.
“On the brighter side, we have two kits ready to be learners.” The kits ran on top of the log. “Yarrowkit and Juniperkit, you two have waited 6 moons for this day. With the power of our ancestors I give you your learner names. Yarrowkit, you shall now be known as Yarrowpaw. Juniperkit, you shall be known as Juniperpaw. Yarrowpaw, your mentor is Mosspelt. Juniperpaw, your mentor is Moonbelly. That concludes this meeting.” Hollowstar finished. She climbed down from the old, dried, redwood log.
Deertail was disappointed that he still didn’t have his first learner. Mosspelt was an excellent choice, but Moonbelly is a horrible choice. Moonbelly can’t chew bee wax and talk at the same time. ‘I have to think positive. Hollowstar had her reasons. Moonbelly is more patient and Juniperpaw has a hard time learning things.’ Deertail thought. ‘My mother has her reasons. If I want a learner, I have to earn it. I’m going to earn my learner now!’
Deertail ventured into the woods, about to attempt something crazy. He was going to get the old owl that preys on small cats, especially kits. Many have tried, but fell to their death. The old owl, Tacila, lives in the great tree in the center of Forbidden Rocks. If this didn’t prove he was strong, nothing would.
We came to an old gorge. He carefully scaled the edges of the gorge as he crossed to the other side. He crawled through the brambles. He came to the old owl’s tree hollow. He scrambled up the tree branch.
The old owl was sleeping in the tree. Deertail crept closer to the owl. He slipped behind the owl and hit the owl on the head with a stick from its nest. The owl was knocked out. He pushed Tacila. The old owl fell from the tree and landed on some rocks. Deertail checked the owl’s heart beat. Nothing. ‘Now the tribe will be safe from this owl.’ He thought while dragged the owl back to camp. He entered the camp.

    Chapter 2

Savannah entered the wasteland camp. Skull was starting a tribe meeting.
“Listen up kits,” Skull said, flicking his tail for silence amongst the tribe. “Three great warriors died in battle today. That means we are going to train harder and start training earlier. When a kit is able to play fight, the kit is going to start training.”
“But-!” Before Dwenk had a chance to finish Savannah interrupted.
“Dwenk and I will train the kits.” Savannah answered, putting her tail over Dwenk’s mouth. Skulls eyes glowed, pleased that she would not protest against him.
“That would be great.” Skull looked over to Kang. “Are the kits ready?”
“Yes, my leader. They are able to start their training immediately.” Kang answered him. “That is all but Blood.”
“Why can’t Blood go into training?” Skull challenged the queen.
“His eyes just opened.” Kang answered, not showing a faint hint of fear. The brave cat.
“He sounds fine enough. Send him into training right away.” Skull snapped. “I want to start taking over territories right away. Little by little, we will move our scent markers into the other territories. Soon every cat shall fear Skulltribe!” Skull laughed devilishly. “And any cat that apposes shall be killed. This is the beginning of a great Empire.”
Cheers and yowls of approval arose from the tribe. Savannah, however, did not join them. She never questioned her life until she met Star. She remembered it like it was last month.
The young rottweiler carried some herbs and precious things thru the local dump not to far from the camp. Savannah was scrounging thru the garbage when she looked up to see the vicious dog who “ruled” the dump appeared in front of Star.
“Why are you in Mac territory?” The bull dog, Mac, sneered. Two other dogs, a bull terrier and a tall poodle came out from behind an old school bus and stood behind Mac.
“I was just on my way out of here. I’ll just be on my way.” Star said, beginning to walk to the other side. The poodle, Natasha, jumped in front of her.
“No one enters Mac Territory without a fight.” Natasha sneered.
“That’s why no one ever enters.” The bull terrier, Ed, added, a grin appeared on his egg shaped head. Natasha pinned Star to the ground, baring her teeth. Natasha sniffed Star.
“Your one of those hippie dogs, aren’t you?” Natasha asked with a rude tone.

‘We’re not hippies. We just don’t believe in fighting or vi-.” Star began. Natasha interrupted.
“I know that!” She said, becoming very irritated. “We don’t take to kindly to outsiders, let alone hippie dogs!”
“Take her to the prison.” Mac ordered. The other two nodded and Ed picked Star up by the scruff. Savannah followed the dogs, being sure to stay unnoticed.
Ed dropped Star into a deep ditch that had “barred” windows. Savannah waited till the dogs left into their dens that night. Savannah crawled over to Star, her tan pelt blending into the sun-baked earth.
“What are you doing?” Star asked me when I began to break the windows of garbage.
“Shh! I’m breaking you out.” Savannah snapped.
“Why are you doing this for me? I have no idea who you are.” Star whispered.
“I’ve seen too many innocent dogs killed by Mac.” She explained. The window broke. “C’mon!”
They rushed out of the camp. Savannah tripped on wire, landing on a metallic object which woke the dogs up.
“Let’s get out of here!” Savannah shouted at Star. Star was picking up her herbs and stuff.
“You can say that again.” Star replied. They ran out from under a fence just in time.
“Never come back again, ye hear!” Ed shouted after the two as they ran off.
Savannah brought Star to a cave near camp.
“It’s perfect. The walls are a beautiful crystal. Even the plants are pretty.” Star marveled at the cave.
“Your one of them hippie dogs, right?” Savannah asked.
    “Were not hippies!-” Star argued.
“I know, but your one of them, right?” Savannah asked.
    “Yes.” Star answered.
“Then why are you here.” Savannah asked, confused that Star was there.
“I ventured out on my own. It was my mission. They sent me here to create an infirmary in this territory that has none. For centuries my ancestors have done so, protecting cats like you. Your ancestors sometimes send us messages to send to you. Other times we “read” the stars for warnings sent by an ancestor. We also teach cats to read these signs. They can’t communicate clearly with you guys, sayin’ there dead and all.” Star began putting things in the cave. She grabbed some marigold and showed it to Savannah. “We also heal. We use herbs, like this marigold, for healing purpose. Marigold, for instance, clears any sinus problems. Or was that lavender…?” Her voice trailed off. “Anyway, I’m here to do those things and to complete my training as a puppy~learner. Every puppy~learner has to create his or her own infirmary and stay for a year, learning were the good herbs are. After that we return, become masters, and go back to our infirmary.”
“Will you ever get a puppy~learner after all that?” Savannah asked.
“If they send me one. If they don’t forget me…” Savannah sensed sadness in Star’s voice.
“What is your name anyway? I’m Savannah.” Savannah asked.
“Well Savannah, My name is Star.” Star introduced herself. “And you seem to be full of questions.”
“And so do you.” Savannah laughed.
“We are the same age.” Star explained.
“I should get home. Skull will be furious if he finds out I’m gone.” Savannah said as she left.

Savannah raced back to camp, carrying the marigold Star gave her. The camp guards, Kang and Kong, stopped her.
Savannah felt her mind drift back to the present. The image of the cats soon faded away. Skull was giving out his new plans for his “empire”.
“I want us to have new positions. Fang, Feather, Joshum, you three shall be the leaders of the dawn, midsun, and sunset hunting squads. Kong, you shall be in charge of who will guard the camp. Flowerbud, Blossom, and Silver, are in charge of the dawn, midsun, and dusk patrols. Scotch, Turbo, Dwight!” He shouted. “You will be the ones who will create an attack plan and organize an attack party for our first invasion…”

    Chapter 3

Silentwind pushed herself and Mallowkit thru the cold, dark night. Dead, amber colored corn stalks crunched beneath their frozen paws. The cold was unbearable and it was darker than ever. Many heavy clouds covered the rising moon and setting sun. Sleep clouded her mind, but she wouldn’t give in. If they slept, the cold would kill them.
“Silentwind, can we stop now? I’m so tired I could sleep all moon passing.” Mallowkit begged. The poor thing.
“No, we must keep going… Snow is hanging in the air and we must keep going… I’m sure it’s nothing, but we have to find shelter before the cold kills us. If we stop, we will die…” Silentwind explained. A snowflake touched her nose. “It’s starting to snow, Mally, we have to keep moving.”
“But I’m so tired.” Mallowkit yawned. Mallowkit collapsed onto the frozen earth, cornstalks crunching beneath her.
“Mally, come on!” Silentwind urged Mallowkit, whom she calls Mally, her throat beginning to ache. She pushed Mallowkit to her feet. “Keep… Keep moving Mally.”
“I… I can’t. I’m too tired.” Mallowkit fell asleep again. Silentwind Grabbed Mallowkit the scruff. Silentwind hoped her breath would keep Mallowkit warm enough to stay alive.
The snow squall turned into a blizzard. Silentwind couldn’t see in front of her. Mallowkit began to awaken from her sleep.
    “It’s so cold…” Mallowkit complained.
“I know it is… Just keep close to me…” Silentwind rubbed her pelt against Mallowkit to keep them warm. Her throat ached when she spoke.
Hours later she found that the snow was too deep to walk in any more. Silentwind was carrying Mallowkit by the scruff, jumping in the snow.
Silentwind saw a faint light glowing in the distance. The light got brighter as she got closer. Then a large barn began to appear in the distance.
“Help! Help me…” Her voice became fainter as she cried for help. ‘I’m too far away for anyone to hear me.’ She thought. She got closer to the barn. She fell into a snow pit. She clawed at the snow falling above her, screaming for help. She landed at the bottom, hitting her head on a sharp rock. Mallowkit had managed to get out of the pit as they were falling. Silentwind slowly slipped into unconsciousness.

Mallowkit yowled out in surprise as Silentwind fell into the pit. Silentwind was unconscious. Mallowkit noticed a bright light ahead. The barn was still far off, but it was their only hope. Mallowkit pushed on thru the blizzard.
The sleet and snow blurred her vision. The snow became harder and harder to push thru. The snow was up to her chin. She heard the pound of frozen hooves behind her and instinctively crouched down. A chestnut colored horse raced to the barn carrying a twopaw on its back. The twopaw saw the brown spotted kit hunched in the snow and steadied his horse. The horse trotted back to the kit. He dismounted the horse, scooped the small kit up in his gloved hands, and got back on his horse with Mallowkit on his lap. Mallowkit found that the horse’s pelt was not chestnut. The horse was wearing a blanket that was chestnut. The horse was a dark gray. The barn became bigger and bigger as they approached it. Sleep gnawed at Mallowkit’s mind. She drifted into sleep.
Mallowkit awoke with a start as the barn doors noisily slid open. Mallowkit was on the horse’s saddle, frozen stiff. The twopaw led the horse into the warm barn. The twopaw put the horse in a stall and picked up Mallowkit. He placed Mallowkit in a haystack. Other cats were also in the barn too. Maybe they would help Silentwind. Or tear her to shreds. She walked stiffly to the cats, the ice and snow melting off her soft fur.

Laurel watched the kit stiffly walk toward them. The kit’s whiskers were weighed down with ice that was melting.
“Aren’t you young to be out on your own?” She asked.
“I’m not own my own.” The kit protested. The small kit wheezed. “I need your help. My friend is trapped in a pit not too far from here.”
“I think I know what you’re talking about.” James answered. “There are fire escape tunnels in this barn that end in a pit not too far from here. I think your friend is trapped in the exit pit. What is your name, anyway? I’m James.”
    “Mallowkit.” She answered.
“Well then, Mallowkit, I shall go thru the tunnel and pull your friend back into the barn thru the tunnel.” James volunteered. “You just stay here with Laurel, Lardy, Meringe, Pop Pop, and the kits. I’ll go and get your friend.”
James uncovered a tunnel and was about to jump into it, when Meringe stopped him.
“I’m going with you.” She told him. The two hopped into the tunnel.
The tunnel was dark and cold. Small light came in from the snow at the way end.
They finally reached the end, pushing snow out of their way. A small gray tabby lay in the pit, unconscious. James and Meringe grabbed the cat by the scruff. They dragged her down thru the tunnel. It took forever. At last, they had reached the end. They got out and pulled the she-cat out.
“What is her name?” Laurel asked.
    “Silentwind…” Mallowkit coughed.
“I can’t just stand here while two cats are freezing to death. James, get the blanket and cover the two in the blanket. Lardy, make a hay nest.” Lardy Sr. ordered. The two cats followed his orders. Mallowkit lay under the warm blanket.
Dawn was nearing. Mallowkit did not sleep well the night before. Silentwind regained her consciousness last night, but they decided to let them sleep before they asked questions.
Laurel got up, shook the hay of her fur, and sat down beside Mallowkit.
“I see you couldn’t sleep well either.” Laurel said.
“I wasn’t very tired.” Mallowkit replied, not feeling like talking.
“I wanted to ask you, why do you have such a strange name? Where do you come from? Is Silentwind your mother?” Laurel asked.
“I was born in one of the cat tribes. When I was a moon old, Silentwind is not my mother, but she is as close. It’s customary for kits to have kit at the end of their name.” Mallowkit answered.
“Oh, do you know Hollowstar?” Laurel asked, the conversation getting interesting.
“I don’t know her, but I’ve heard of her in stories. Everyone in any tribe has. She is an extraordinary cat!” Mallowkit exclaimed, her throat hurting when she did.
“Could you tell me a story?” Laurel asked.
“Yes, but tell me, how do you know about Hollowstar?” She questioned.
“I met her before.” Laurel gave a simple answer.

    in small font.)))))

“Well… Here’s one.” Mallowkit thought of one Silentwind told her. “When Hollowstar was 8 moons old, she had driven a badger out of camp by herself. She was eating a squirrel when footsteps sounded behind her. She turned around in time to see a full grown badger looming behind her, ready to strike her with its large claws. The rest of the clan had gone to meeting stones for their half-month reunion. Only the elders, queens, and kits were left there. She was chosen to watch the camp. She rolled in time before the badger hit her. Its claws raked the ground instead of her. She jumped onto the badgers back. Biting its neck and sinking her claws into its fur. When the badger tried to shake her off, she bit harder on its neck and pulled out fur. The badger grabbed her and threw her into a raspberry bush. Hollowstar, under the name Hollowpaw, had her tail covered in thorns. Instead of pulling the thorns out, she lashed at the badgers face with her tail. The badger could not see anymore because of blood streaming into its eyes. Hollowstar used this to her advantage. When she clawed at it, the badger moved backwards. She clawed at it until they neared a large gorge that is a river in New Berry. The badger’s wound stopped bleed and it could see. The badger was at the edge. Hollowstar lunged at the badger, sending them flying over gorge. The badger cushioned her fall. The badger had screamed in agony as it died. The screams were heard by the tribe on its way back from the reunion. They crawled down a narrow path. The food problem was solved. The cats carried the badger up the gorge and the clan shared it, burying what wasn’t eaten so they could eat it the next day.”
    “Is that it?” Laurel asked.
“Just about. Whenever a badger attacks, all the cats cover their tails in thorns if possible. That’s the end of it.” Mallowkit finished.
“That was interesting.” Laurel told Mallowkit, not completely believing the story.
“What did you name your kits?” Mallowkit asked Laurel.
“I named them Tiggy, Kate, Anne, and Daisy. Tiggy has stripes like a tiger, but he‘s still a tabby. An attitude like one two. Kate and Anne are twins. They have golden pelts. Daisy is gray like me.” Laurel replied. She looked over at her kits nestled in the warm hay. It made her remember her earliest memories.
Mallowkit remembered images. Images of a bright gray she-cat with eyes as blue as the sky and a tom with a gray pelt with amber eyes. They were sitting with three kits nestled in with them. She saw herself as one of the three kits. The next image that flooded her mind was devastating. A fire that covered the old dead forest. Cats were running through the forest and outside the burning forest. They wore a horrified expression. She then saw her mother running out of the forest, carrying only one kit. Her father appeared next carrying her. One kit died. The image faded from her mind, a new one taking it’s place. This one was a sickly kit. The kit was her litter mate. The kit didn’t die. It healed, but was left weaker.
Now Mallowkit remembered why her mom had Silentwind take her away. Her mom wanted a better life for her. She knew that Mallowkit would be better off with a normal life. A life as a kittypet. Mallowkit coughed a bit. Laurel looked at where she was looking.
    “Angels, aren’t they?” Laurel asked.
“Yeah, they sure are.” Mallowkit yawned. “I think I’m going to get some sleep.”
“Ok, you do that.” Laurel replied to Mallowkit, who was lying down already. Mallowkit fell into a deep sleep.
“Mallowkit.” Mallowkit heard a voice say. She opened one of her eyes to see Silentwind by her side, trying to get her up.
“I’m up already!” Mallowkit shouted at her.
“Have some milk.” Silentwind offered her some of her milk.
“Thanks. Were did you get it?” She asked. She began to lap the milk up from the bowl.
“The twopaw who rescued you stayed in a room in the barn last night. He got the milk from the cows.” Silentwind answered, flicking her tail at another door where the cows are kept, then at the office. “He gave us some milk to share.”
Mallowkit drank her fill of the milk. The milk soothed her sore throat. She then went to see if Laurel’s kits were up.
Tiggy was awake. The kit was tunneling through the hay. Tiggy soon had a small den. Mallowkit went to observe Tiggy’s tunneling skills. Tiggy threw hay every which way. Mallowkit was covered in hay. Mallowkit saw Silentwind talking to James. She got closer to see what they were saying.
“I don’t think that you to should go anywhere in your conditions. Even if you were in tip top shape, were snowed in.” James informed Silentwind the sad news. The news didn’t bother Mallowkit, but really seemed to bother Silentwind.
“I was hoping to get far from here by fall, but we ran a little late.” Silentwind told James.
“Would you like to help dig a tunnel?” Mallowkit was caught off guard by Tiggy’s question.
“Yeah.” She began digging. It was surprisingly fun. She still had her ears pricked, listening to the conversation. Mallowkit felt Silentwind look over at her. She pretended not to be listening.
“But Mallowkit seems to love it here. I think that we might just stay, if that’s ok with you guys.” Silentwind said.
“Of course that’s ok. Everyone is welcome here.” James answered. ‘Yes!!!! This is going to be awesome.’ Mallowkit thought to herself.
She and Tiggy had a tunnel that was two hay bales long by noon. At noon she and Silentwind had some mice and kitty pet food. ‘So this is the life my mom wanted for me.’
“I caught the mice! Aren’t they good?” Daisy asked. Daisy seemed obviously proud of herself for catching the mice.
“Delicious,” James answered when he finished his mouse. “You’re one good mouse hunter, like you’re uncle.” James remarked, almost as though it were a challenge.
“James, you know you’re not to speak of them in this barn!” Laurel scolded. The boring conversation was getting very interesting.
“What am I supposed to do? Forget about them! At least they could hunt!” James shouted. Lardy and laurel looked hesitant at first. Laurel sighed.
“I guess we can’t keep it hidden. When Pop Pop was young he ventured out way beyond the farm. He found a camp that had many cats. One cat was a beautiful golden tabby named Goldenleaf. He met her again when he went to a hollow. The two fell in love. Everyone hated them for that. The two ran away one night. They ran to this barn. Goldenleaf had three kits, Lardy junior, Lucky, and Jay. When Lucky and Jay heard about the clans, they wanted to leave so bad. When they left the barn, they snuck into the forest and found two tribe that welcomed them with open arms. Since then, they lived there, each becoming leader, from what I heard.” Laurel explained.

    Chapter 4
Savannah breathed in the sweet air. She watched the kits tumble around on the sun-baked earth, chewing on catnip. She sunbathed lazily for a while. She then got up and crawled into a cave at the end of the territory, hoping to find Star at the other end. Instead she found a scarlet trail of blood. 'Star!' She panicked. She followed the trail into the wood, carrying a leaf of catnip, just in case. At the end of trail, she found Star.
"Star!" She said and she ran up to Star. "Star, are you ok"
"Yes I am, Savannah. You shouldn't be here" Star warned. "They think your dead."
"I know. I needed to see you. But I guess I don't. I need to find my daughter." Savannah said.
"There she is." Star pointed to a cat by the food pile.
"I think she had kits. You could talk to her. Her warrior name is Iceflower." Star told her.
"Thanks." Savannah thanked her. She ambled over to her daughter. "Iceki- I mean Iceflower, it's great to see you, again." Iceflower turned her head.
    "And you are?" She asked.
"Your first mother. Your second mother thought she killed me. Then your third mother, I don't know were she is, or what happened." She said to her. Iceflower sniffed her mother.
"You’re my real mom. My good mom. I thought Trossclaw killed you." Iceflower said, puzzled. She sat next to her mom "We have a lot of catching up to do." Savannah nodded. They told each other what happened over the moons.
"How is Deerkit? Well, I mean, he’s a warrior, right? What is his name?” Savannah asked.
“His warrior name is Deertail and he’s fine. He’s watching the kit’s so they don’t get lost.” Iceflower answered with an air of satisfaction when she said “kits”.
“I hate to leave again,” Savannah licked Iceflower’s fur. “But I can’t let Skull find out I’m here. He thinks I’m hunting.”
“Well,” Iceflower picked a finch out of the prey pile. “You might need this to prove you were hunting. See ya, mom. I love you.”
“I love you to. Bye.” Savannah said in as she left.
Savannah caught three more prey, a mouse and two voles, on her way back to camp. When she came back, she added the prey to the pile and decided to go to sleep in her den.

    Chapter 5

"Butters! Come here." A twopaw yowled. The twopaw squeaked a mouse toy. Butters instinctively ran up to his twopaw master. When he got there, his twopaw pointed to his pet house and threw the toy in there. He ran into his pet house. He didn't have to guess why his twopaw wanted him to go in there. Just as he thought, the twopaw closed the door and picked up his pet house. "Butters, we’re going on a road trip to the Cold Woods Camp grand opening. We'll be the first to pitch a tent there!" His master said excitedly. When they got into car, she closed the door and opened his cage door, allowing him to sit in the window sit, which was safely attached to the window. The car started up and he walked into his part of the car, the part with the cat seats, litter boxes, food, water, etc. His master turned on the moving box. Inside the box was a bunch of cats mewling around. It wasn't very entertaining, but the sounds of other cats were soothing. He crawled into his cathouse and lay in the heated bed, watching the moving picture box. He soon fell asleep.
His dreams were very jumbled up. He dreamed of a fires and cats running away from the nightmarish flames. He ran, too in his dreams. He ran into the opening in the wood he was in. He ran right off the edge of the world. He was falling off a cliff into nothingness. After what felt like eternity, he looked below him and saw jagged pointy rocks and a fast river. As soon as he plunged into the water he woke up. When he woke up the car was at a stop.
"Butters! We’re here!” His twopaw master said to him. She got him out and they walked up to the center of the small clearing. A short man walked up to the large ribbon. He pulled out an extra large pair of heavy duty scissors.
"I hereby open this campsite." He said and cut the ribbon. Loud excited yowls arose from the crowd. 'Gee. I guess twopaws are really stupider than I thought.' He thought silently.
"Butters! Let’s go and pick a spot to put our tent." His twopaw said in their strange language excitedly.
That night as his twopaw slept, he snuck out, feeling the urge to adventure around the camp. He wandered through the campsite. All of a sudden he heard a rustle in the bushes. A small kitten jumped out of the bushes, claws bared. The small kitten puffed himself up and jumped and tried to look fierce. It just made the kitten look cuter.
"Whoa, there, little fellow! What’re you trying to do to me? Gum me to death?" Butters asked the kitten.
"Get out of our tribes' territory!" He snarled as fiercely as he could, which wasn't so fierce. "This is Snowtribe territory!"
"What in the world is a Snowtribe?" Butters asked the kit, befuddled.
"You mean you seriously don't know what Snowtribe is?" The kitten questioned.
"Buuuuuterrrrs! Come 'ere boy!" His twopaw master shouted.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Twopaws!" screeched the kitten, and dived back into the bushes.
"Wait! Come back!" Yelled Butters. The kitten vanished. 'My only chance at having a friend. Gone. I HATE twopaws so much! I am never coming back to that THING!' He decided and he ran along the road, looking to see if the kitten was near. He bounded along the road just to get away. He stopped and looked back at the direction of the camp. "AND I AM NEVER COMING BACK!" He shouted at the campsite. He focused on finding the kitten to get his mind off his master, anger fueling his steps. He began to get tired and started to walk a little slower.
He felt small raindrops and the wind howled. 'This is much different than what it was earlier.' He thought as the rain pelted his fur. He trekked onward. He saw a twopaw car roar at the top of the road. The car was going fast. Too fast. The car spun out of control. He climbed up a tree. The car came to a sudden stop on its side as it crashed into the tree. Five twopaws came running down from the top of the hill. They pulled a fake twopaw out of the car.
"This crash dummy is awesome! All you have to do for your job is to crash cars. You're soooo lucky!" One of the twopaw said. The twopaws left the car and went home. They left the car behind. All of a sudden, the kitten popped its head out of the bush and crept over to the car.
"Whoa, a twopaw monster! I've heard of these! They can kill the fiercest warrior with a single blow!" The kitten exclaimed.
"What do you mean, a 'monster'?" Asked Butters, wondering where the kitten came from. "It's a car!"
"Whatever." said the kitten. The kitten slowly approached the car. The wind was starting to slow down.
"What are you doing?" He asked the small kitten.
"Exploring this "car"." The kitten replied. The kitten jumped into the back. The kitten yowled. "There's too much sharp stuff in this "car". I scratched my paw on it." The kitten mewed from back of the car. He crawled out and began to lick its paw.
"By the way," He said in between licks. "My name is Yarrowkit. I take it your name is Butters. Nice to meet cha."
They huddled beneath a tree. The rain pelted the leaves of the tree. The kitten napped by his side. 'Great. Now I have to take care of this kitten, too.' He thought. He heard a rustling sound from behind a bush. He prodded the kitten in the back to wake him up.
"Just a little bit longer." The kitten muttered through sleep.
"And just how long would that be?" He asked.
"Ten more moons longer..." The kitten said. He prodded the kit in the back harder. "Fine. I'll get up... What's the matter?"
"There's something behind that bush." He said. The kit sniffed the air.
"Mommy?" The kitten muttered. Sure enough, a full grown she-cat jumped out of the bush. The she cat pinned him down to the ground, or at least tried to. He flipped the she cat over and pinned her to the ground.
"You better not have hurt my precious kit!" The she-cat snarled, showing a display of sharp, nasty, moonlit teeth. Yarrowkit came running up to her, limping slightly on his paw.
    “Mommy!” Yarrowkit mewed.
“What have you done?!” The she cat spat furiously.
    “N-nothing.” He stuttered.
“Don’t kid me,” The she cat snarled. “Look at my Yarrowkit! He’s all cut up! You did this to him! YOU are going to pay the price! YOU are going to DIE!”
The she cat raised her long, sharp claws on one front paw and scratched his cheek. Hot and sticky blood trickled down his face.
“Die! DIE!” She snarled at him, scratching furiously. He had no choice now, he had to fight her, whether he wanted to or not. He raked her belly with his hind claws. She jumped off him and he launched himself onto her and bit her ears. She yowled and pushed him off of her. He sank his teeth into her scruff, scratching her shoulder. She pinned him to the ground again, mauling him with all her force. She reared up and came crashing down on him. He slowed his breathing so it was barely there. The she cat noticed his slow breathing and hopped off him.
“DIE!” She screeched and clawed him across the eye. He could tell the blood was trickling into his eye, but he wouldn’t dare move.
“I won. I WON!” The she cat yelled. “I killed him! He lives no more!”
Everything went black. Sounds around him were slurred. He could faintly make out sounds of crying, wailing. ‘Yarrowkit. That must be Yarrowkit. I’m not dead, right? I’m not dead. I can’t be… right?’
Forcing himself to stay conscious enough to hear the voices, he lay still.
    He heard new voices now.
“Jayfeather… What have you done?” A small voice choked.
“Maybe Ashpelt and I can save him if we hurry. He’s still conscious…” A small voice, clearly of a young she cat, mewed as he drifted into unconsciousness.
“Is he ok?” He heard a tiny mew, which he had identified as Yarrowkit’s.
“I don’t know. Your mother sure did a number on him. Just leave him alone and go back to the nursery.” The she cats voice mewed. He heard Yarrowkit leave and pretended to still be asleep. He felt his stomach ache and heard it rumble. He hadn’t had anything to eat since he left his master’s home. He opened his eyes.
He was in a small den. He saw a gray she cat, not more than 11 moons old.
“Your awake, thank Starclan!” She mewed in gratitude. “I’m Featherpaw, learner to Ashpelt. Don’t try to stand up!”
    His stomach growled.
“Here, eat this dormouse.” She handed him a small, reddish-brown rodent. She began chewing leaves, laying the pulp on a leaf, which he recognized as maple. He looked down at his paw, which hurt sorely, as did the rest of him, and saw it was covered in cobwebs. His face had cobwebs on it, too. She took off the cobwebs on his paws and face and began pressing in the pulp. He winced in pain as the pulp sank into his wounds.
“This may hurt, but it will stop infection.” She licked the pulpy mess off him and wrapped new, clean cobweb on his wounds.
“Now, eat this thyme.” He ate the thyme, still hungry. “Rest up. You need to rest.”

“You should get some sleep, Stormkit. I’ll get the crow bit sorted out while you sleep. You’ll feel better if you go to sleep.” Cherryblossom ordered.
“Alright.” Stormkit put his head down into the soft moss of the nest. It had feathers in it. He soon fell asleep.
He was returned to the hot desert he was at earlier. The hot sun was blazing hotter than ever, but the cold snow overpowered it. He soon felt himself sliding down the ice, or up the ice. He was led into the snowing sky. Up in the sky, there is a forest. A cold, but not too cold, forest. Prey there was scarce. It was the same as the forest on the ground. The ground was beginning to get a light blanket of snow. He put his paw into the snow, but it was not cold.
“Hello, Stormkit.” The warm voice of a she cat greeted him.
“Excuse me, but who in the name of Starclan above me are you?” Stormkit mewed, sounding a little mean.
“I don’t know how they have been raising you, but if I were still alive, you’d be in Starclan for saying that!!!” She shrieked. She forced the fur on her neck to settle coolly. “But, since you asked so nicely,” Stormkit sensed a sarcasm in her mew. “My name is Raincloud. I have been watching you.”
He dipped his head in greeting.
“Hello Raincloud. Why are you watching me?” Stormkit asked. “I’m so boring.”
“You’re not boring. In fact,” Raincloud added. “You are the most interesting cat I know. As a matter of fact, that’s why you are here.”
Stormkit listened on. Raincloud stared into his eyes with deep concentration, as if she were searching for a lost kit.
“You are special.” Raincloud watched Stormkit’s expression change into an I’ve heard that how many times now?! Expression. “Two share this world. One is the same of the other. Both must learn to get along, or both shall die.” Raincloud prophesized. Raincloud faded into the snowy scene. The scene faded, too. “Stormkit… Stormkit… Storm…Kit…” Raincloud mewed as she faded.
“Stormkit!” He woke up, nearly jumping out the door. Cherryblossom was by his side, trying to wake him up.
“Stop it! I’m awake already.” He yelled.
“Oh, great! Your fever went down and your face cleared up. You seem alright. If it wasn’t for Janglepaw, you would be miserable. Here’s that vole you wanted.” She flicked the tip of her tail at the vole by his nest. He wolfed down on the vole.
Licking his chops, he asked Cherryblossom a question.
“Hey Cherryblossom, who is Raincloud?” He asked her, tucking his paws under his chest.
“Well I don’t know. Maybe one of the elders would know.” She told him. “But don’t ask now, I want to watch over you for the rest of today.”
“But I’m ok I don’t need to be watched over.” Stormkit mewled. “But I guess I can stay.”
Cherryblossom gave him a playful lick over the ear. He looked up at her. He could see the longing she was trying to hide in her eyes. He was tired, so he took another nap, this one uninterrupted.
It was early morning and the frost covered the ground like a blanket. Stormkit sat under the meeting branch. His leader hopped up on it.
“Well, to start this clan meeting out, we should begin a caution. The greencough threat is rising. Any signs of greencough should be reported immediately. On the brighter side of things, three kits are ready for apprenticeship.” She leaped down in front of them. “Dewkit, Stormkit, Hawkkit, and Reedkit. I present you with your apprentice names. Dewkit, you are now Dewpaw, Stormkit you are now Stormpaw, Hawkkit, you are now Hawkpaw, Reedkit, you are now Reedpaw. Dewkit, your mentor is Sunfur. Hawkpaw, your mentor is Windfoot, Reedpaw, your mentor is Shadetail. Stormkit, are you sure you want to take on the life and secrets of a medicine cat?”
“Yes, I do.” He replied, confident in his answer.
“Then, you are a medicine cat apprentice and your mentor is Cherryblossom. She will take you to perform the sacred medicine cat ceremony.” The clan yowled their names.
The cold night wind whistled through the trees
“Are we there yet?” Stormpaw asked his new mentor.
“We are almost at the Mooncave.” She answered.
The path became rockier and more hilled. At the top of the hill was a forbidding cave.

    Time: Frozen Berry
Location: A boat docked in Germany
    Chapter 6

Jelly and Rocky scampered around on the boat. They played “soccerpaw” with a ball of moss.
“Jelly paws it port. Then starboard. She goes for the goal.” Henry, their older brother, said. Upon hearing this, Rocky blocked the goal. Jelly still paws it in the goal. “Goal!!! Jelly once again beat her brother at one-cat soccerpaw. Jelly stands, tied with her brother. One goal wins the game. Who will win this game? One takes the gold and one catches mice for a week.”
Kelly, the older sister, set the ball in between the two. She jumped up next to Henry.
“Kelly now reporting the soccerpaw updates. The final game in the boat deck Olympics is better known as the tiebreaker. The most heated game in all of Saint Anna SS history. Start cats!!!” The two cats below began to play soccerpaw. Then they stopped and Jelly looked up at Kelly and Henry.
“Stop tellin’ updates! It really makes me not concentrated.” She yowled at the two.
“Ok, jeez.” Kelly looked over at Henry. “It’s so boring here. Let’s go see if mom needs help.”
“Ok-!” He was interrupted by the boats load motor and the clanging of fisherman’s tools. The boat made a sharp turn as it left the dock. Kelly fell off the box and Jelly lost her balance and rolled over to the railing. She was hanging on to the railing, feet hanging over the edge of the boat.
“Jelly! Hold on!” Yowled Jackson, an older cat, Henry’s age. He is the captain’s pet. He ran after the young kit. The fisherman deployed the fishing net, a dolphin safe net. A large wave rocked the boat violently. Jackson managed to grab the young kits scruff before she fell into the ocean. The boat shook again and the two fell off and landed into the water. The water was freezing it always was during spring. He swam franticly.
Then a great gray dolphin pushed them to air. Jelly breathed in sweet air. Then the dolphin went into an undersea cavern. The dolphin swam to the sand. Jackson set Jelly on the sand. She heard a clicking noise behind her. She watched with curiosity as the dolphin responded and dived under water.
“Hello,” Jelly jumped as a voice sounded behind her. “I am Conchstar, leader of Seatribe. Dolphin says you are great swimmers.”
“I wouldn’t say-.” Jackson was interrupted.
“Let me finish. Our tribe is low on warriors, would you two join our tribe?” She asked.
“Sure. There is no turning back now.” Jackson replied.
“Would you follow me?” She padded off into the cave. The cave got strangely warmer. They came to a series of other caves. About the size of an average den. Steam vented out of one and relaxed mews came out of it. “That is the elders den. The den next to that is the nursery.” They came to two more dens. “Those are the warrior and learner dens.”
They came to a cave surrounded by stalagmites.
“That is my den.” She said to them. She hopped up on a pile of seashells. “Anyone who can walk, please come to the sea shells of gathering.” Cats came and sat below the pile. “As you all know, we are short of warriors.”
“And what are you getting at, Conchstar?” Clampaw asked rudely.
“I found two new cats, both great swimmers.” They came onto the pile. She turned to them. “If you do so solemnly swear to uphold the warrior code, I shall grant you your warrior names. Jackson, you shall be known as Flametail.” She stopped and licked his forehead as a sign of respect. “Jelly, you shall be known as Troutkit.” She licked her forehead too. “Tonight you two shall stand vigil tonight. You two may go to the bottom of the pile with the rest of the cats.” She changed subjects when they got to the bottom of the pile.
“On other news, sharks have been reported in our area by our sea scouts. No one is permitted to leave the cavern without my permission. Cave mice have returned on the bright side of things. You may only hunt in the cavern for now. It is returning leaves now, according to Flametail.” She threw a glance at Flametail, previously Jackson. “Our meeting is over. You may return to sleep except for Flametail. Troutkit, I will take you to your nursery mom.”
HE sat his vigil silently, staring at the entrance to the cave. At what suspected to be dawn, the deputy, Wavefoot, came.
“You can go to sleep for a few minutes.” Wavefoot said to him. He went into the warrior’s den. He fell asleep. Then Halfshell woke him up.
“You’ve been placed on cavern duty. You’ll be with me and Flowertail.” He said.
‘Cavern duty? Is that guarding? Shouldn’t I be training instead?’ Flametail thought to himself. He followed them out the cave.
He was at the sandy entrance to the cave with Halfshell and Flowertail.
“What we do is we look around the cave entrance for danger, like sharks or sand traps.” Flowertail explained.
“What are sand traps?” Flametail asked to Flametail.
“Glad you asked. Sand traps are dip pits of sand that collapse upon them. Even the strongest warrior can die in a sand trap.” The brown tabby she cat explained.
He walked carefully, watching for sand traps.

    Time: Frozen Berry
    Location: Cloudclan
    Chapter 7

“Ugh.” Fogpaw moaned. “There are too many cobwebs here.”
“You seem to be the only one finding them. You should be a medicine cat apprentice.” Mouseclaw amusingly joked with his apprentice. “Hurry up and keep scouting the borders.”
    Mouseclaw scented the air.
“I smell something strange. Fogpaw, prepare yourself. It could be time you used those fighting moves I taught you.
They ran up to the top of the hill. They saw four skinny, undernourished cats, most likely rogues.
Who are you?” Mouseclaw demanded the four cats.
“We are who we are, but who are you?” A pale-gray with light-gray eyes she-cat mewed in a moony voice. “I’m Owl.”
“I’m Nighthawk.” A dark gray she-cat with paler gray flecks and greenish gray eyes mewed.
“Sparrow.” Replied a light-brown she-cat. She had amber eyes.
Mouseclaw stared expectantly at the black tom, who hadn‘t said his name. Instead he stared at his paws.
“You all look hurt. Come with us, our medicine cat can treat your injuries.” Fogpaw offered. Mouseclaw and Fogpaw headed back to their camp, the rogues following.
The four rogues were in the medicine cat’s den. The sun was setting quicker everyday.
Mouseclaw climbed up the mountain. The snow was falling gently. The icy path up the mountain was hard to follow. At the top of the mountain was the moon. HE reached out to the moon with his paws and touched it. Its warmth flooded over him. At that moment all of his worries left him and filled him with happiness.
The den was empty when he woke up. It was dark in the old, woven tall grass den. The sky was dark as night and rain was pouring harder than it had in moons. The wind was howling like a dog. Two warriors, Gingerleaf and Stonehawk, and Stonehawk’s apprentice, Leafpaw, carried fresh kill into the medicine cats den, which was where the fresh kill is kept during storms so it doesn‘t get wet and soggy. They each carried one piece of fresh kill.
“Mouseclaw,” He heard Oceanstar mew. “Would you go on a Sunhigh patrol with me, or are you too busy?”
“Sure, Oceanstar, I will.” He mewed. They left through the heather bush entrance and patrolled around the borders separating them from Boulderclan and Bushclan.
The borders were safe and sound. When Mouseclaw entered the camp the rain ended. He ate some fresh kill quick and began to like his pelt dry, which was plastered to his skin and made him colder than ever.
    * * *
Leafpaw sat by the rogues in the medicine cat den.
    “Hey, Nighthawk.” She mewed.
    “Yeah?” Nighthawk mewed back.
“Why did you guys come here?” Leafpaw wondered.
“No particular reason, except burdock roots. Rats out near Mac Place attacked us.” The gray she cat told her.
“What’s Mac Place? I’ve never heard of it.” Leafpaw asked.
“Just a place, not too far from here. And evil bull dog, Mac, “owns” a human carrion place. Any dog who trespasses is killed. Mac doesn’t care about cats. Only Star lived to tell her tale” Sparrow explained, instead of Nighthawk.
    “Oh.” Leafpaw mewed.

    Time: Frozen Berry
    Location: Boulderclan
    Chapter 8

The moment Silentpool left Stormkit and his littermates alone he snuck out. His best friend, Dewkit, met him by the entrance.
“So, what is this cool place you wanted to show me?” She asked Stormkit. He looked from side to side, just to make sure no one was watching.
“I can’t tell you. Not until we get there.” The Boulderclan kit mewed.
“Oh, get off your high rock and tell me.” She said in an aggravated voice.
“Sheesh. Alright, I’ll tell you. It’s a secret hangout” He explained.
“Oh well. Let’s go.” She begged him. The two snuck off into the night, his black and white pelt and her brown and white pelt gleaming in the dark . Stormkit passed the twopaw bridge and kept going. The unclaimed territories had a lush sense to it than anywhere else in Ripe Berry that Frozen Berry destroys. He saw Twilightkit, a Cloudclan kit, in the “Unclaimed”.
“Hey Twi!” Dewkit called. She nuzzled Twilightkit. “Are you going where we’re going?”
“That depends,” He answered in his unusually squeaky voice. “That depends on were your going.”
“Aww, come on you guys; we’re all going to the same place. No one, especially Weakclan-I-mean Cloudclan could have claimed.” He explained and complained. They got to the “hangout”, surprisingly, without hearing Twilightkit nag about Stormkit’s rude remark. Either he didn’t hear him, or thought it was the natural Boulderclan way of greeting someone.
The camp was a dusty tree hollow. The dust glowed a luminous dust red in the moonlit splotches. The light just barely broke through the tree canopy. ‘This would be the perfect place for Boulderclan. A Cloudclan cat, or should I say WEAKclan would get lost easily. Bushclan might be ok, but the lack of sunlight might be too much. I shouldn’t say things about our allies. I can’t believe they were our mortal enemies. We are the most feared clans in the stream area. But then again… Bushclan was the weak ones then. Rainclan was our ally, but we drifted farther apart after Moonstar died, but were not entirely mortal enemies. Cloudclan is our main enemy, but Bushclan’s ally. We can’t take action, or risk losing a precious ally.’ The surrounding flooded back to him. He finally drifted out thought. Five kits were here. He knew them and some of them knew him. He recognized Tigerkit, Copperkit, Clamkit, Shadekit, and Lilackit. Lilackit saw him and she dashed over to him. She greeted him with a friendly mew.
“Hey, Stormkit! I’ve wanted to see you. I haven’t seen you since the Bush Flood.” She mewed, excited. That’s right; he hadn’t seen her since the Bush Flood. The Bush Flood only affected one clan severely, of course, BushClan. One Greenleaf it rained and rained. It was a downpour that lasted for nearly a quarter moon. The clan camp was in an empty hollow at the edge of the forest that the Twopaws made. The camp began to flood. The camp became so flooded, that they had to flee, or risk kits and elders drowning in their dens. They fled to Boulderclan. That’s when Stormkit met Lilackit. It was two moons ago. When they met, they played all day in the nursery that the queens had to force them to be settled down or they’d kick them out into the rain. He knew they never meant it, but he settled down.
“It’s great to see you, Lilackit!” He nuzzled her. “I’ve missed you. It’s been two moons.”
“I know. Guess what. Were almost apprentices!” She exclaimed.
“Hey, we’ve still got a moon.” He tried to reason with her, but that was impossible.
“You’re going to be 6 moons old in a few moons, and I’m going to be 6 moons old in two moons. Have you decided what you’re going to do when you become an apprentice?” She asked him. She was always full of questions.
“Me, I’m going to be a great healer. The most admired and strongest of all the clans.” He replied, feeling a glint of pride, choking down most of his pride. “What about you?”
“Me, I’m going to be warrior. Except I just want to be admired by kits. I want to be a good role model, unlike Applefur. She is so stuck on herself.” She retorted angrily. She hated Applefur, but Stormkit thought that she just was jealous of Applefur’s fine, silky, kittypet-like pelt.
“What about your sister, Breezekit?” He changed the subject, on purpose.
“She wants to be medicine cat. She always good at healing. Remember when you got a thorn in your paw during the Bush Flood? She knew just what to do.” Lilackit told him. He felt a little sad that he never saw Breezekit since.
    “Is Breezekit here?” He asked.
“Nope, she doesn’t know. I never told her.” Lilackit explained. Lilackit self-consciously licked her paw. Stormkit thought that she liked being talked about more than her sister.
“Hey, Stormkit, you and your girlfriend get over here. The meetings about to start.” Dewkit shouted at him, knocking him out of his trance.
“She’s not my-” Stormkit was interrupted by Dewkit.
“-Whatever, just be quiet.” She retorted. “Your shouting is giving me a headache.”
The four kits, Stormkit, Dewkit, Lilackit, and Twilightkit, all pawed over to a crowd of cats, that were obviously not clan cats.
“…Brett was so cool today… He fended off a dog… So cool…” Stormkit crept closer to observe and see who this “Brett” was.
“Brett is such a cool brother. He protected my mom and my siblings from the puppy the Rutters own. He was in the rotunda the Rutters own. Their kits love to play with the puppy out there. Brett sure showed him.” The kit, Stormkit assumed was Britt, Brett’s twin apparently.
“She is such a bragger.” A new kit that he never met before came up to him and tried to talk to him.
“Yeah, she sure is.” He agreed.
“I’m Gilbert, what’s your name?” Gilbert asked.
“I’m Stormkit. I live in Boulderclan.” He replied, happy that this kittypet wasn’t really bothering him.
“I lived next to Britt for all of my life. She was so mean to me. ‘Gilbert, more like GilWART.’” Gilbert mocked Britt’s high pitched voice. He laughed so Gilbert wouldn’t feel bad.
“I think that impression was a bit too close.” Stormkit mewed. “I got one. How ‘bout ‘Brit the Bitty Brat.’”
Gilbert laughed so much that he started crying and Stormkit thought Gilbert was going to die.
“T-that’s a good one.” Gilbert laughed, wiping the tears off his face with his paw.
“Hey Gilbert, why are you here, anyway?” Stormkit asked Gilbert.
“My mom dragged me here. She is the gray tabby over there on that rock.” Gilbert told him why, along with giving him his entire life story. ‘Who knew a kittypet could have so much to blab about.’
“Hey, Gilbert, I’m sorry, but it’s getting late and my mom will be suspicious if she sees I’m not there. See ya.” Stormkit said goodbye.
    “See ya.” Gilbert echoed.
“Hey, Dewy, we should get back.” Stormkit told Dewkit. They both ran back, the early sun was about to rise.
They got back before their parents woke up. He slept in until his stomach woke him up around mid sun.
“I’m soooooooo hungry.” Stormkit moaned. He rushed over to the fresh kill to find just a crow left.
He ate the crow hungrily. He saved the rest of the fresh kill for the rest of the clan.
“Hey Stormkit, do you want to play-fight with me?” Dewkit asked him as she came bounding over to him. If she bounced any higher she’d be flying.
“Sure!” The two play-fighted together. They soon rolled into the nursery. He was exhausted and so he stopped. He could see his breath in the Frozen Berry air. He lay down in his nest.
“What’s the matter, Stormkit?” Dewkit asked him.
“I just want to take a nap.” He replied his words a little struggled. He started coughing and fell asleep in his nest.
He was playing outside in a desert, but he couldn’t breathe at all. He coughed and sputtered for air. Then a big paw reached out of the clouds and put him at the bottom of the ocean. It was so cold. He barely had the strength left to swim. He was about to give up when a beast grabbed him in his tentacles and squeezed his chest. He coughed and could breathe again.
He woke up. The medicine cat was hovering above him.
“What in the name of Starclan is Cherryblossom doing staring at my face!” He rasped. He could barely get his words out. What was wrong with his voice?!
“Now that you’re awake, eat this.” She handed him a green, pulpy, disgusting, unappetizing coltsfoot on a leaf. He barely swallowed the mess.
“Disgust-t-ting!” He exclaimed as he tried to get the taste out of his mouth.
“How do you feel?” Cherryblossom asked.
“I would feel better I you would get OFF of my tail!” He shouted. She got off his tail.
    “Sorry.” She apologized.
He was now aware of where he was. He was in the medicine cats den. His mother was pacing outside. It was a heavy downpour outside the small den. He shivered as a chill went down his spine.
“I would like to know what’s going on here.” Stormkit demanded.
“I-I-I don’t really, how do I put this, now.” She mewed, her voice sounding distant, even though she was right there. “But I sent for Breezekit, or should I say newly apprenticed Breezepaw.” She mewed happily, a gleam of pride in her eye. ‘Why is she proud that she got Breezepaw? Maybe it’s because she can’t do anything else.’ He laughed a bit at his own joke.
Breezepaw arrived shortly after Cherryblossom said she sent for her.
“Now let’s see.” Breezepaw muttered as she entered the den. She looked horror stricken when she caught sight of him. She gasped so loud he thought an elephant gasped.
“Now I feel like the mentor. What in the name of Starclan did you do to him, mousebrain! He looks like he’s a zombie!” Breezepaw cried out.
“I just had Janglepaw make him a Coltsfoot mush…” She trailed off and ran out to find Janglepaw.
    Cherryblossom returned shortly with Janglepaw.
“Now Janglepaw, what did you put in the mush I had you make earlier?” Cherryblossom asked Janglepaw.
“I put in coltsfoot, a dab of honey to make it easier for him to stomach, and two tansies.” He replied.
“Two tansies, ay yi yie. That’s too much, but it does explain why he looks like a zombie. The tansy should wear off in a bit so he should be fine. Breezepaw, do you think you know what’s wrong with him?” Cherryblossom asked, getting back on topic. Stormkit thought she asked too many questions.
“Well…” Breezepaw examined him. “”It looks like the cold before you get greencough.”
“But, but it’s only the third frost of Frozen Berry.” Janglepaw mewed, astonished at the news.
“Janglepaw, go over to Bushclan and get some Catnip. I know they have some because I just borrowed some last moon for Moonpelt.” She sent Janglepaw and Breezepaw off. “In the meantime, it looks like I should comfort you and you mother.” Cherryblossom exited the den to tell his mother that he had the pre-greencough cold, but Janglepaw went out to get some catnip and she was not to enter the den or go near him.
    ***
She re-entered her medicine cats’ den. Stormkit was fast asleep. She rested her tail over his burning forehead. She licked her tail and rested it on his forehead again in an attempt to cool it down. She told Silentpool to warn Tanglestar about that the greencough threat is growing. Janglepaw was the only hope left for this poor kit. She only wondered how he got it.
    ***
Janglepaw returned with some catnip. Stormkit was awoken so he cold eat some catnip mush. It tasted surprisingly good. He took a nap. When he woke up, his stomach was growling.
“Hey Cherryblossom, I’m hungry.” He complained.
“Didn’t you eat yet?” Cherryblossom asked.
“I ate half a crow, but I’m hungry again.” Stormkit complained.
“After you feel better, Janglepaw can give you a vole.” Cherryblossom said.
“I added some honey to the catnip so it would taste better.” Mewed Janglepaw, a little off topic. ‘That’s why it tasted so good.’

“Step in.” Cherryblossom encouraged him. The inside of the cave glowed because the moonlight came in through a hole in the top and bounced off the walls. He scented dog.
“Don’t worry about the dogs. They wont hurt you, they just live here.” She soothed. ‘Who, or what, would want to live here?’ Stormpaw asked himself.

    Time: Frozen Berry
    Location: Marshtribe
    Chapter 9

“Alright, practice is over, Sunpaw.” Quillpool mewed.
    “Thank Heaventribe!” Sunpaw sighed.
“Don’t get too relaxed. Tomorrow we have to explore new territories. Rumors have been saying Skulltribe is going to capture the-.” Quillpool sarcastically gasped to add drama. “Unknown! Rest up, we have a lot of walking to do tomorrow. Tailstar says we get the rest of the day off. He wants us in top condition.”
    “Ok, I will.” He mewed.
Cloudkit’s tail twitched with excitement with what Quillpool had said. Cloudkit followed Sunpaw to practice, but Sunpaw didn’t mind. Now all he could think of was their journey to “the unknown”.

    Time: Frozen Berry
Location: Night Cave, The Night Prowlers
    Chapter 10

Rain roared outside of the cave. Rain water leaked inside the cave in little streams, all ending neatly in a pool at the center of the slightly circular cave.
It had rained for two days now. The long winter was over. The many rains brought the warm winds with them.
Several weeks have passed since Tatie began living with The Cloud Runners, the clan neighboring The Night Prowlers. The Cloud Runners saw something in her that no one else could see.
A young tom walked into the dark cave, not knowing it was inhabited by The Night Prowlers.
The tom curled up beside the entrance, awaiting the dawn. His fur was plastered to his skin and the soggy earth was less of a comfort.
The rising sun slowly climbed into the dawn sky. Dark shapes grew over the horizon. The tom watched with fear as the shapes grew. Blood was strong in the air. The shapes took the form as a group of cats, all of which carried something in their jaws. Four carried prey and 3 carried herbs. Dropping their prey and herbs in neat piles near the pool, they pawed over to him. Eyes gazing at him in awe, the cats slowly backed away until one she cat remained. The she cat, Kale, stared at him, as if seeing a ghost. The tom stood up, lifting a tentative paw and pressed it against the wall, leaving a paw print. One with six toes, instead of four. He sat down, head lowered. The she cat returned to the rest of the cats.
“He is Rye, most definitely.” She mewed.
“But Rye is dead. Rain killed him. Rain said so.” A light gray tom mewed.
“Then, Rye must be yet alive, for he stands right here. His paw-print is unmistakable.” A brown tabby she cat mewed.
Kale looked at him, then to the rest. She stared at her paws, then slowly lifted her head, facing him.
“To exile. If he truly is Rye, he will survive this harsh environment and escape, finding a better life. If he is not…” Her eye filled with malevolence. “He will surely die.”
“Mother…” The tom choked. The rest dragged him out of the cave. They forced him out of their territory.
“May you find peace in whatever lies in your path.” The light gray tom mewed.
Three weeks have passed since the Night Prowlers left him. He was cold, his paws were wet from the marshy mud, and hungry. The cold winds blew northward. He stopped. He listened to the sounds around him. He heard the trickling of water. Following the sound to it’s source he found the Sacred Creek. He left his paw-print on the tree that was missing half it’s trunk. He climbed upon the tree branch and walked out on it. It went out a little over half of the creek. He jumped into the water and swam across. Warmer winds blew on this side of the creek, warming his soaked fur.
Scenting the air, he scented a sweet smell. Unknowingly, he wandered off, following the scent. When he came to himself he had realized that he wandered into a field of spearmint. A kit was asleep in a bush of spearmint. The black kit drowsily opened his eyes.
    “Where’s Acorn?” The kit blinked.
“Who’s Acorn?” Rye, feeling a need for answers, since his morning had been filled with nothing but unanswered questions.
“My guard. Who are you?” The kit asked, suddenly getting up and looking ready to run away from him. He couldn’t blame him. They had never met before.
“I’m… Well… I… This is hard to say… I don’t know who I am, or my past, only tidbits of the past actually, but I do know where I’m going, but not where I’ve been.” He mewed.
“Maybe our healer could help you retrieve your memory. Come and follow me.” The kit ran off into the herb field. “By the way, I’m Leaf.
