this little child was, to put it plainly, downright stubborn. even in her mother's womb. she was taking quite the peaceful nap until something odd had began. she felt movement that was a bit unusual, but alas, her limited senses meant that she hadn't had the slightest idea what was going on, and her sleepiness won out over her mild curiosity. not even the early contractions of sandlily's labor could rouse her -- at least, not at first -- and little did she know it, one of her siblings made his way into the world, without her. several minutes had passed before the tiny kit was eventually birthed. she appeared mostly black in color, save for a few hints of fiery orange and white. her fur was so wily and spiky that it was comical, the way she looked like birth had been one hell of a crazy journey, or perhaps it looked like she'd been struck by lightning. maybe even.. yes, she resembled an urchin, for all its dark spines. what a fitting name for the little runt. her first clumsy gulp of air was followed by a shrill mew, calling out to her mother, completely overwhelmed by the new information flooding her nose. the scent of sandlily was comfortingly familiar, as if she'd known it all along deep within her being, and she felt an intense warmth coming from the presence. urchin clambered forward on instinct alone, her nose eventually reaching something soft and pleasant: her mother's tummy. her brain was hardwired to know what to do, and in a few moments, urchin had latched and was nursing peacefully. despite the fact that she was utterly puny, she sure could move! a greedy little thing she was, too. she would eat until she wasn't little anymore. one day, she'd be strong and big. for now though, those concepts didn't mean a thing. she was with her mother and brother, so she couldn't be more content. she didn't anticipate, however, the fact that she had more siblings on their way. the competition would only get fiercer.

✧ she was attacked by an infected rat at 4 moons, which led her to become incredibly sick with rat-bite fever; however, she made a miraculous recovery just in time to become an apprentice.

✧ she has recently taken a liking to battle training under sedgeroot's mentorship, and seems to show great promise as a resilient and dedicated apprentice. fighting/sparring becomes her strong suit.

✧ in the recent rat war, she lost half her tail and injured her ribs.

    PHYSICALITY:

    ✧ LA PERM / DOMESTIC SHORTHAIR | HEALTH: 100% | reference

✧ at first glance, urchin appears to take after both parents, although she clearly resembles pantherfrost more. her pelt is mostly dark like her father’s — mixed in with some sparse white and patches of brilliant, fiery orange — but she carries the distinct laperm genes that give her fur a coily, raggedy and spiked appearance with a more long and coarse texture. she also has his stocky build. her eyes are the color of golden seagrass swaying in the ocean, and they carry a heavy intensity about them, perhaps a rugged sort of beauty. she never feels that she is attractive, and is actually rather insecure about her appearance. one could never tell though, the way she carries herself confidently. as far as size and stature are concerned, urchin is one of the largest in her litter, although she was born among the smallest. she is always moving around in some way shape or form, never quite sitting still for long periods of time. as such, her patience tends to run thin, and she lives a very fast paced life.

as she enters adolescence, her features have begun to change. her once clumsy and tomboyish gait has become more confident and feminine, as she seems more sturdy on her paws. her face is more chiseled, once concealed by a thin layer of baby fat that has long since melted away. her muscles grow more toned and fit from training.

✧ friendly actions may can be powerplayed

while the climbing temperatures had been causing a bit of a stir amongst the adults, urchinkit was remarkably unfazed: overjoyed, even. at only 4 moons old, she'd never gotten to experience the warmer seasons, and she was particularly interested in watching that horrendous snow melt. it was simply way too cold. it made her paw pads sting when she tried to play in it! could leafbare really be over already? she overheard one of the queens in the nursery say that new leaf shouldn't be coming for another couple of moons. the wily-coated tortie was quick to quell her doubts, and her interest in the subject dwindled to a dull flicker. after all, the camp was buzzing with activity this morning, and the forest seemed more awake than ever. indications of vibrant green on the forest floor meant that new, fresh grass was beginning to grow. buds were starting to sprout on the trees. there were bugs everywhere! even some fuzzy, buzzy bug called a bumblebee that gave her a nasty sting a few days earlier. most other bugs didn't mind when she batted them around. she'd have to remember that bees were the grouchy sort.

scrambling out from within a pile of leaves she'd surreptitiously gathered together, the chubby kit yowled with dramatic gusto, "look out, world! one day i'm gonna conquer you!" the scene she was acting out was all going according to plan until she tripped on her own paws and landed into the mud. while she wasn't thrilled with the fact that parts of her fur were caked with filth, she shook herself -- unaware of who could possibly be around to catch the flinging mud -- and walked it off. "y-yowch! well, that didn't go very well." she grumbled.

the clutches of boredom never bode well for wily urchinkit either. much like her sister, she understood that their world, as kits, was just too small. eventually they'd go stir crazy if they were bound to camp for another two grueling moons! imagine that! at least she and shorekit were on the same page about things. the two troublesome sisters would surely find that the world was so much bigger than they could have imagined. and more dangerous, too.

"uncle dusty! uncle dusty!" came urchin's shrill cry as the plump little tortie barreled towards the group. her pelt was covered in leaf litter and dirt, which was not out of the ordinary for her, as she had a tendency to get into things. even from the confines of the camp, she found many innovative things to do to switch up her dull, everyday routine. many involved getting her paws dirty, but her fur was the real culprit responsible for her appearance. it was so thick and coarse that things just got stuck in it easily. a telltale quirk of hers, urchin didn't seem to mind. she loved the smell of the earth and the pines of the forest.

taking a running start, she gave a valiant attempt to leap at dustdevil and bat at him with sheathed paws, laughing the whole time. "cmon shorekit! let's jump on him!" urchinkit exclaimed, her honey brown eyes shimmering with excitement.

along came chaos herself, in the disheveled form of the curious and mischievous urchinkit. unlike slate and bracken, she had no interest in helping. she was more interested in coming up behind slatekit to give him a scare, but her concentration was fuddled when a putrid stench hit her senses all at once. sitting up from her crouched position, she gave a dramatized "eww!" and her back arched with her alarm. the ways of the clans and the importance of lending a paw for her brothers and sisters in arms didn't yet mean much to her. she simply couldn't wrap her head around its significance. eyeing bisonpaw scrupulously, the chubby tortie kitten shuffled in on the other side of slatekit, her expression twisted into one of disgust when she noticed the horrendous looking herbs that the medicine cat apprentice had dumped on the ground. gee, that was one mess that urchin definitely didn't want to get into. "this stuff's nastier than a fox with fleas... i dare you to eat some, slatekit! or are you a scaredy mouse..?" her tail thrashed to and fro as she grinned wickedly. she wondered if he'd really do it.

    hey guys!

so i've been on a little break for the past couple weeks or so due to starting up a new semester at uni!! it took me a little time to get used to my new schedule (not to mention dealing with sorority things) and i couldn't really find the time to make decent thread/replies. but i've settled in and i'm ready to make my return to ff :) so expect plenty of threads from urchinkit, i definitely love this clan and really wanna get her involved. <3

//tl;dr - urchin is ambushed by a rat while sneaking out of camp, sustaining quite a few deep bite/puncture wounds in the process. she manages to fend off the rat, who flees shortly after the attack. her injuries are nothing fatal, but she will become sick with rat-bite fever. it seems unlikely that she will survive at first, but she'll make a recovery by some miracle. this ordeal will result in her gaining the nickname "ratbite" (a name she finds fitting and cool) and will also be an experience that will help mold her into a tenacious apprentice in the future <3

urchinkit's frame shuddered, wracked with pain and doubled vision as she tried her hardest to focus on the path. the rat was sick and aggressive, but how could she have known? how could she have known that the one time she dared to venture beyond a kit's boundaries, she'd stumble upon that rat's burrow? it must've come from the twolegplace: it was nearly triple the size of the mice she'd frequently eaten from the fresh kill pile. all she knew about rats was that they were big, dirty, and dangerous. by the way things played out, she figured they certainly fit that description. but i won.. she thought incredulously, smiling shakily at the thought despite the circumstances, by starclan, i won!

it wasn't an easy battle, by any means. the element of surprise worked in her enemy's favor. her claws knew what to do, even though she'd never had to use them before. once the rat had knocked her over and had her pinned down, she thrashed at its belly with her hind paws, tearing flesh, and although it did obvious damage, the injuries only enraged the rat more. it got one more good bite in her neck before urchin scared it off with a claw swipe to the face. bloodied and shaken up, she sat there for several minutes in complete shock. a part of her was fearful for the rat to return, since it vanished without a trace, but she figured she ought to get as far away from that place as possible. coursing through her veins was deadly bacteria from the disease-infested vermin that would leave her nest-ridden for weeks. it'd be nearly a moon before she could run and jump and play again. rat-bite fever claimed many victims, but she wasn't going to be one of them. she'd live.

now the youngster was on her way back to camp, and she was honestly more worried about getting in trouble than her bleeding wounds. hopefully her clanmates -- not to mention her mother -- wouldn't be too upset with her. it took this much for her to realize that clan rules were in place for a reason. the outside world was no place for a cat so small and inexperienced. once she was bigger and stronger, though? she'd be able to take on a whole pack of rats. the next time urchin set foot in the forest, she was going to be an apprentice, and the rats would be the ones running scared. in the meantime, this would make for one hell of a lesson.

    BISONCHARGE

    //you're good! no worries!!

along came juniperthorn to rain on her parade, but she knew it was all well deserved. and for what it's worth, he was absolutely right to be unsympathetic. she just wished it didn't have to be the deputy that found her like this. oh boy, how could she possibly talk herself out of this one? he was the most no-nonsense warrior who could have made an appearance. truth be told, urchin was really intimidated by him. intimidated, sure, but she looked up to him, too. even if she was too stubborn to admit that. perhaps one day she could make him and all the others proud of her.

her amber eyes screwed shut as she let out a defeated groan, or maybe it was a sting of pain that brought it forth. after a heartbeat, she met juniper's gaze again, turning tail and limping past him towards the medicine den. "y-yeah, yeah, i'm goin'.." urchin choked out, her voice strained. she stopped after a couple of paces and turned to peek over her shoulder at the older warrior. "a rat came after me.. thought it could get the jump on me, but if you thought i looked bad, you ought to see how that rat looked after i messed him up --" her mild-mannered joke was cut short by a sharp, searing pain from her neck wound. she winced and inhale sharply mid-sentence: "that is, if you can find it. it got away."

of all the adults, virgo held a special place in urchin's little heart. she was used to seeing her in the nursery, what with her pregnancy and all, and she always made for pleasant conversation. she could tell that the queen was soft hearted, and honestly regarded her as an aunt, of sorts. when she started brooding over her, urchin couldn't help but feel shame burning on her face. she was always so worrisome, always fretting. she was the last one she'd want to see her like this. next to sandlily, of course, but it made her feel some type of way knowing she'd caused virgo some grief. it did hurt, she couldn't lie, it hurt like hell. as much as she wanted to act tough, the pain was only intensifying as her adrenaline continued to wear off. "miss virgo, i really don't want you worrying, but it really really hurts.. i guess that f-flea-bitten critter g-got me pretty good --" her legs started to buckle, and she was becoming a little too weak to stand. she felt like she was becoming foggy and dizzy, like her flesh was on fire, running rampant with infection, and before she knew it, her condition took a sharp turn. virgo and juniper's bodies became mere fuzzy shapes as she started to lose consciousness, and she let out a tiny whimper before she passed out, hitting the ground with a little thump.

    heeeey y'all!!

sooo urchin needs to build some relationships! she gets along fairly well with most, but she does have some sassy tendencies that can get her into trouble and she can get a little bossy around others her age. even though she doesn't really understand the warrior way just yet, all she needs is a role model to look up to :) as well as friends!

    she's open to:

    - friends

    - enemies/rivals

    - role models

    - bad influences

    - little crushes (one sided or mutual)

    - adventures

    - etc., if you have any specific ideas not mentioned, go for it!!
