✦ The thought of death racked his brain as Flaxenglare and Gingerpaw spoke. It was so scary; he didn't wanna die. His siblings were already gone, taken before their lives began. He couldn't die too, he couldn't do that to his mom or anyone else.

Still, Wolfpaw didn't know if he wanted to be important to people. That only served to scare people and get them mad at Wolf. If no one cared, then no one would miss him when the whitecough theoretically took him, Curse his amiable personality!

"Take care, Gingerpaw," Wolfpaw coughed out as he sat up, "Oh, and Flaxen," Wolfpaw grumbled as he tried to push the warrior playfully.

"It's bold to assume I'm going up instead of down when I'm gone," Wolfpaw joked, but death still haunted and terrified him, his whole body shaking as he eyed the ground sheepishly.

"I don't wanna die out here.." He said as quietly as he could.

✦ Wolfpaw's eyes lit up as soon as Gingerpaw stepped into the medicine cat den.

"Gingerpaw! Hey there, come here, come here!" The presence of another person was enough to make Wolfpaw feel a bit better, even if his head was killing him.

"I'm glad to see you-" he was cut off by a coughing fit, his chest sizzling in the aftermath. "I... guess that tell you how I'm doing," he laughed weakly, flopping back onto his nest.

"How about you? I hope you haven't caught anything." He liked Gingerpaw's company, but he definitely didn't want for Gingerpaw to have to bunk with him in the medicine den.

✦ Wolfpaw laughed loudly at Diamondpaw's joke, extremely entertained by her response to his rambles.

"Yeah, yeah, we got lucky!" he smiled.

Seeing her apprehensiveness to fight made Wolf feel very guilty about prompting to do so in the first place. Wolf stood up normally, the walked over and sat next to the girl on her nest, not realizing just how much room he was taking up.

"Why don't you wanna fight? Do you have a personal code of rules on top of the warrior codes or something?"

✦ Wolfpaw felt a twinge of panic as the girl got a bit emotional; Wolfpaw didn't do good with emotions and the like.

"It's okay, it's okay! If you don't wanna fight you don't gotta, I understand," Truthfully, he didn't get why Diamondpaw wouldn't want to spar, but if she didn't want to then Wolfpaw wouldn't force her to. Hearing her declare she didn't want to hurt him did make him chuckle on accident, though; the younger apprentice must've been a fast learner to make that claim.

"It's okay to be scared. I'm scared of stuff, like... like heights! I hate those!" his laugh grew in an attempt get her to laugh along instead of look sad. Girls shouldn't be sad!

✦ Wolfpaw giggled when Gingerpaw's tail rubbed against him; it tickled. It was nice to have someone actually be brave to sit next to him.

"I'm glad I get to see you too!" He smiled, his eyes trying their best to be bright but the sickness dulling them. Gingerpaw was a nice guy for keeping Wolfpaw company. Even if they didn't each other super well, Wolf was excited to become closer friends with him.

His laughed turn sad as Gingerpaw wished him a quick recovery. "Yeah, I hope so too," he sighed as happily as he could, disliking how he was bring down the energy of their conversation. Hearing of how things back at the apprentice den made Wolfpaw snap from his sadness.

"That's good!" he grinned, coughing a bit before continuing, "I'd hate if you were sick. And I'm lucky he hasn't come to give me a headache yet! I'm glad he hasn't been bothering all of you back in the den."

✦ Wolfpaw groaned as he followed to the medicine cat den.

" 'm sorry for causing so much trouble," he grumbled; he didn't mean for so many people to come out and try to help him. He was sure that they all had better things to get done, and here he as, being selfish and all.

"I didn't think about how I could've gotten other people sick.." It was true; he hadn't. He was content on continuing his dramatic display and trying to convince people he didn't need the help; his head hurt.

"When we get there," he asked in an uncharacteristically sheepish voice, "Can I go to sleep? My dad used to say when he was little and was sick, he was told not to go to sleep or something bad would happen. I don't want something bad to happen but I'm tired."

✦ Her smile was contagious; Wolfpaw found himself smiling just the same as Diamondpaw.

"I try to not show I'm scared, but sometimes a great man has to admit his faults!" He proudly declared. He looked down to see her touch his shoulder, and he looked back to her and smiled, moving his tail to her shoulder in a similar affectionate manner.

"You're welcome... Now," his face grew serious once again, "What do you wanna do, then? Pick anything, I'll be up for it!"

✦ Wolfpaw cringed at the idea of dragging himself out into the snow; his dad used to tell him stories of awful leaf-bares that tore apart families. Both parents and children growing sick and passing... Wolfpaw didn't like those stories, especially now that he was old enough to envision those stories happening now. If Diamondpaw wanted to go out and build dens, though, he'd oblige.

"Alrighty then! Let's go!" With that, Wolfpaw started to zoomed out of the den.

✦ Wolfpaw sat, trying to get halfway from the medicine den and halfway to the great rock. He nodded along as their leader spoke, chuckling to himself as she spoke of sickness; too late for him. Hearing of the poison rats terrified him; now what would they eat? Sorrelstar promised they would make it out alive, but...

    // track!

✦ "Yeah, right here works!" he nodded- or shivered, he couldn't really tell the difference. He took an impulsive poke at the pile, then shook his paw as a cold shiver went up his back.

"Phew, I'll be thankful when leaf-bare is over," he huffed, "Do you like leaf-bare any?" He didn't see how anyone would, but even he thought the snow was pretty sometimes.

✦ Wolfpaw snorted. "Flaxenglare is a real pain in the you know what sometimes, but he cares deep down. He's never let me get hurt or anything. He's just a big weirdo. I knew him for a bit before he was a warrior, so we have some history too. He's only mean to make himself seem all cool." Wolfpaw could talk about Flax for the longest time- he was the third best warrior he knew. Ahead of Flax was Firedawn, and before her was Wolfpaw's father- he would always have the top spot.

"How about your training; do you have a nice mentor?" Wolfpaw looked down for a split second, then back to Gingerpaw. "I think you could be a medicine cat or something. You're smart and you care a whole lot about others."

✦ Wolfpaw roused from sleep as he watched Ratshadow enter. Sickness claimed another victim, eh? It was sad to see all the cats walk in with ailments, and Wolfpaw wished he himself wasn't sick so he could help out with the other suffering cats.

"I hope you feel better soon, Ratshadow!!" He called out from his nest, a coughing fit following his words.

// tell me if its not cool to post on this before oliveslip does!!

    ✦ "Wolf! Wolfpaw!"

Slowly, the boy's eyes opened, and he was face to face with Ashclaw- his father.

"Papa!" Wolf called out, speeding towards the tom. Wolfpaw was the spiting image of his father, save for little details; Wolfpaw got his mother's brown eyes and round face, while Ashclaw possessed a square face and green eyes. Still, Wolfpaw always took pride that his coat was like his fathers rather than his mother's longer black fur.

"Wolfie, you're sick, kiddo! Feel better soon, okay?"

    "I will, papa, I will."

"Good! Has Rae visited you any?" Ashclaw always affectionately referred to his mate by the nickname; Ravencloud always called Ashclaw, well, 'Ashclaw'.

"Nah," Wolf sighed, "Mama's worried about also getting sick so she hasn't stopped by."

"I'm sorry, bud," Ashclaw put a paw on his son's shoulder, "I'm sorry I can't be here to watch out for you, but you've got good friends to do that now."

    "Papa?" Wolfpaw whimpered.

Wolfpaw woke up again; his father was gone.

"Papa?" Wolfpaw teared up; his dad would've visited him. His dad would like his friends.

    He missed his dad.

✦ Wolfpaw's attention snapped to Gingerpaw's enterance, and he made quick work of rubbing his eyes clear of tears. He was still crying.

"Ginger," he laughed awkwardly, "I'm fine, I'm cool! How- how're you, bud?" He coughed, then shuffled his paws idly. Ginger wasn't supposed to see Wolfpaw be any weaker than when he was dragged away to the medicine den. He hated still being sad about his dad- it wasn't what the warrior would've wanted. Ashclaw would've wanted his son to be happy, and here he was, still upset. He didn't want to disappoint both parents.

✦ Wolfpaw looked to Gingerpaw with a panicked look. "Don't go," he pushed out, "I like having someone around." Being stuck in the medicine den taught Wolfpaw very quickly that he needed the company of others to thrive. He wasn't the type who kept to himself or preferred to have alone time; it was nice, but it got terribly disheartening very quickly.

He looked to the frog and reached towards it, weakly pulling it apart and sliding one side of it back over to Gingerpaw.

    "Eat with me."
