Wolfpaw walking into camp slowly, sweat pouring down his face and his paws empty. An entire hunting trip, and he came back with nothing; he sighed, hoping to a least find something to snack on once he got home. The first sight he was greeted with, though, was Nathanos' announcement. " Fantastic. " he groaned sarcastically, going over to peak over Nathanos' shoulder. He gagged at the sight and smell of the rot; he was going to have to help carry that away from camp. " How'd it happen so quick? " he asked, looking back to Nathanos, if only so that he didn't have to look at the maggots.

Wolfpaw looked around; this place was not familiar. It was too bright, too harsh to look at. Before him, though, was someone he knew exteremely well. Ashclaw smiled down to his son.

    " Wolfpaw, how are you?"

    Wolfpaw blinked in disbelief. " I'm.. I'm okay, dad. I'm sorry. "

" Sorry for what? Letting me die? " Ashclaw said, the same plastic smile across his face.

    " W-what? "

" You didn't stop him, son. You let me die. You let me die. I'm gone, and it's all your fault. You stupid fox-heart, can't even stand up and fight to protect those you love. I'm dead, because of you. " Suddenly, Ashclaw melted into Beartooth, the warrior chasing Wolf as Wolfpaw's heart beat faster and faster; it hurt, oh Starclan it hurt, his chest was going to explode--

Suddenly, Wolfpaw was awake. Cold sweat ran down his face as he jogged outside, breathing unsteady as he leaned against the cool rock of the apprentice den.

    Grizzlyfang

Wolfpaw wasn't a violent person, but when Nathanos padded up, it filled him with anger. He.. this murderer was sitting down and expecting a heart to heart? No; those were for Firedawn and Gingerpaw to hear. Not some stranger who lead an entire bear to his home. " What do you care? " he snapped, words angry but tears still falling. He pawed at his face, wiping tears. " Stop it, stop it, " he whispered to himself. Looking bac o Nathanos, he growled. " What about you, huh? Why're you awake? "

// ic opinions!! he'll warm up to nate i promise

" But I don't wanna be afraid! I don't wanna be a scared little boy who can't protect the people he loves, I wanna be there to protect them! " he thought of Gingerpaw, and Flaxensun, and Firedawn... he wanted to keep them safe. If he couldn't, he was worthless. Damn it, his dad was dead; he was already worthless. " I... hate you. " he looked up and laughed. " I used to think that the bear you led here was what killed my dad. I would've been so much happier to keep on thinking that that's what happened, instead I had to figure out he was murder by a friend, a man I thought cared for my dad! My dad wasn't taken swiftly, he suffered, he bled out a suffered and now he's gone. " Wolfpaw wished he hadn't poured out the entire story to Nathanos, but he couldn't help it. He needed it out there. " I try... I try so had to move on, and during the day it's alright, and I can grin and bear it, but once I have to sleep I can't. I just can't.."

Wolfpaw watched Briarstar's announcements, impulsively picking at his scar as she spoke of Beartooth's attac; it still filledv him with rage to think such a monster was lurking around, pretending everything was okay while Wolfpaw mourned his father. On top of that, Stagpaw was attacked as well? He sighed; Shadowclan apprentices just couldn't catch a break, huh? Seeing Gingerpaw's face made all the tension in Wolfpaw melt away, and he returned the touch of affection. He smiled back. " Not really, just talking about the attacks on me and Stagpaw. You've had to tend to us, so I assume you know enough about it. " he whispered, chuckling lightly, " There's also an alliance with Skyclan." He turned his attention back to Briarstar and a bit of that uneasy feeling returned. He didn't know what to think of Nathanos... he supposed he could friendly enough to the guy. He gave Gingerpaw a light shove in the shoulder and smiled again. " You're doing great as medicine cat, " he said quietly, " Thank you, Briarstar! " he called out much louder.

" My dad... he was happy. He smiled a lot and had a ton of friends. He laughed whenever I tripped but he never left me on the ground, you know? And when h fell, he told me it was okay to laugh as long as I helped him too. " Wolfpaw thought back to when he was a kit, and how his dad would just take him by the scruff and run around camp, with Wolfpaw bouncing and laughing loudly. It was.. nice. He missed it. " It's easy to say 'move on', but it's so much harder to actually do. I'll try- I'm trying- but.. I don't know! " he stomped. " I just want him back. I know he's looking down and caring for me in his own spiritual way and all, but I can't help but miss him a ton. He's not here for so much. "

Wolfpaw and Gingerpaw were... something. Wolfpaw could live with them being something; something was a fantastic balance of love and friendship, a borderline where they could cuddle without risking either of their goals. Of course, he wanted more certainty on what they were, but if something were what they were, then Wolfpaw didn't want to push and turn it into nothing. Wolfpaw' drenched in sweat, poked his head into the medicine den. It was too hot... they had to go out and do something, and Wolf was ready to give Ginger a much needed break.

    GINGERPAW!

" You say that, but it's still like walking through fire out there," he chuckled lightly as he stepped into the medicine den; God, he hoped this heat wasn't making Gingerpaw suffer too bad. It was already bad enough all the stress from being a medicine was put onto him, and now they were cursed with blistering heat? He hated to see his.. something.. stuck in the heat with the rest of the clan. " I'm gonna get you out of here! We're gonna go cool down! ... Or, at least try to. " he grinned, not waiting a second before he tried to push Gingerpaw out the door.

Rosepaw was always a treat to see. She was a fun cat to be around; her smile seemed like it was stapled onto her face, something impossible to remove. Wolfpaw considered himself a happy person, but Rosepaw? If Wolfpaw was happy, she was ecstatic. " Mornin' Rosie! " he called out with a smile; when he looked back to the girl, Lichen had bumped into her-- whoops. " Hey, both of you okay? "

Wolfpaw laughed along with Gingerpaw; Gingerpaw had a nice laugh. Hearing the happiness in his friend(?)'s voice always brought a smile to his face. " We're gonna go cool down, Gin! " that was the only clue he'd let out for now. He continued the trek, out past camp, until they pair seemingly got lost in the marsh. Wolfpaw took one tiny footstep into one of the swamps; it was definitely dwindling, but it waas still there and surprisingly cool. " Alrighty, " he snickered, taking a few steps behind Gingerpaw, " Time for a dip! " Wolfpaw would then try and ram into Gingerpaw, forcing him into the marsh. Wolfpaw wouldn't leave him alone in the murky, shallow water, though; he would jump in right behind Ginger.

This guy couldn't be much older than Wolfpaw, but Stars did he have a mouth on him. " You shouldn't talk to a warrior like that, fox heart. We aren't your friends. Act your age instead of standing there and trying to seem smarter than us. That clan of yours has you too confident. " he snarled. If he dared to touch Firedawn, Wolfpaw might have his first kill before the tyro. He was too jovial; it made Wolfpaw's sin crawl to hear. " What're you here to do? Exact revenge on the guy? " He wouldn't tell Wrathion his name. He didn't get that satisfaction.

Wolfpaw erupted with laughter as he looked at how much smaller Gingerpaw was beneath his fluffy fur. " You're tiny! " he snickered, not nowing the cause of his more petite frame was due to him starving himself. Wolfpaw didn't want to think about Gingerpaw doing something like that; anything that made Gingerpaw suffer was at the top of a vague list of things to fix about life. Wolfpaw's frame had barely changed any, but you could've sworn Gingerpaw was a different cat. As the water came for Wolfpaw's face, he spat and laughed even more. " Now you're gonna get it! " he smiled, aiming to splash Gingerpaw back. Despite it being two month's shy of his warrior ceremony, he felt this was the most childish thing he'd done. He was very okay with that; he was with Gingerpaw, and Ginger was smiling. Nothing much else mattered.

Wolfpaw couldn't believe he was so close to becoming a warrior; it seemed like just yesterday he was Wolfkit, splashing in mud and sneaking out of camp... now, in one moons time, he was going to be enforcing the rules of his home. He was going to be able to train the next generation! The idea kinda scared him; he was used to being called the next generation. Still, with a smile on his face, he went up to Ratshadow. " I'd like a refresher, ma'am! " he called out happily.

Wolfpaw stuck his tongue out through his tooth gap, snickering as Gingerpaw was taken aback by his splash. He stopped his laughing when Gingerpaw spoke. Wolfpaw, like the gullible dork he was, fell for Gingerpaw's plan. He took a quiet look around. " I don't see anyth- OOF! " he choked out laughing as his head was dunked underwater, swallowing a bit as he pushed back up. He coughed, but still couldn't halt his laughter. " You could've killed me! " he exaggerated with a grin, " Your turn! " he snorted. He threw himself on Gingerpaw, trying to push them both under the water.
