The beings of the Cartel called, and called, but the princess could not answer them. She could hear them, hear their voices filled with concern, with sarcasm, with fading hope and painful memories. She heard her name, mixed with the title of ‘sister’ and she could have leapt for joy. Did this mean that she was home? Had she finally returned to her kingdom?

Kaia knew that time had passed, but not how much. Had her kingdom even had access to the ocean in some way? She did not remember, and as she began to try, more and more memories faded as they had only been kept alive by fantasy. When reality entered, they hid. She could no longer remember their faces. Levi, who, despite being only a few months older, had protected and looked out for her. Sola, one of the eldest sisters she’d met, kind and proud, everything a princess should be, she was. Even Robin, her own mother, eventually faded until only her pale blue eyes were left burned into her thoughts.

She felt her paw being lifted, held by someone with great care. Her outer wings gingerly lifted by other paws, little claws pressing against her feathers. Kaia wanted to be able to open her eyes, to see who these people were, to talk to them, but the most she was able to manage was the tiniest twitch of her center tail, which curled up underneath her chin.

Kaia is a bit of an interesting subject to test on, perhaps he can attempt to remove her third eye and be unsuccessful? She's currently very naive after being asleep for a very long time so if he just doesn't mention where he's from, she'll go with him willingly/unknowingly She hasn't been awake since before the world shift, so she wouldn't know the exiles' new territory.

First came the slap, a normally very effective way of waking someone, quick taps on the cheek to jolt the body. It failed, Kaia remaining under the lingering effects of the sleep spores. Her lungs constricted as the air was pulled from them, her eyes flying open in panic. Coughs ripped themselves from her throat as she tried to breathe normally again. Probably the most unnerving thing about the whole thing was the demonic looking eye in the middle of her forehead. An unnatural combination of black, yellow and crimson.

She pulled her paw out of Asimov’s reach, scrambling and stumbling away from the crowd on unused, boney legs. She looked like a fawn with the way she walked. ”Where…” Her voice wavered, the sound a warm, unfamiliar tone to her ears. It still held the thick Russian accent her tutors could never get rid of when they taught her English and attempted to teach her Latin and Greek. Yet that was the only thing that had stayed the same. ”Where is matushka*? Where is sem'ya**? Kto ty**?”

The last question could be seen as directed specifically at Asimov, or at the general group. In her panic, certain words she had learned last in English, had been replaced with those she had used most often in her native language. As she had spoken, multiple flowers had sprouted from the sand before rapidly wilting and decaying. All of them various purples or white hues before they died.

Kaia was familiar with alliance litters, some of her siblings had been born from them, and they were popular in the old world though filled with hardships. She didn’t know how bad relations had been with the Ruins before she came, but she knew that with her brother as Godfather, he was in the position to make decisions about this on his own.

She was honestly a little excited, most of the siblings who were around when she was young were unhitched and had no children. Now, almost three years later she had all of these little niblings to look after. It..wasn’t the same as Sunclan, the Cartel, not by a longshot, but since there were so many family members here...it was home.

The catsune wobbled up to her brother on shaky legs with the help of an npc, propping her front legs to one side of Asimov so she could reach up and attempt to press her cheek to his face. ”Even if by no one else here, your children who stay here will receive love from your boyfriend and I. It takes a lot for a leader to do what is best for his country. You have protected your people, I am proud.” Her formal wording could probably only be rivaled by her nephew Ilya, but not a single word was fake. Many times had she been taught how to craft beautiful lies, and many times had she refused the trade outright.

”Well I never!” Kaia sniffed, turning away from the retreating reptile as she made herself comfortable sitting on the floor. She opened a single half of each of her wings to block Asimov and Dee. It wasn’t a threatening barrier by any means, but it made her feel safer. ”Chto Kholodnyy serdechnyy khvost tresher*..” She muttered to her brother.

Dee mentioned hoping for one of the children to have his eyes, or his smile. Kaia grinned, nodding along. ”Da, my brother has such a pretty face. He gets it from matushka, she is very pretty too.” She thought of her mother's soft features, the only thing she had of Robin's was her eye color. It got her thinking about the possibility of what her own children would look like. They were not something she’d thought about before. To be fair she couldn’t have little ones before, she wasn’t old enough, but now..The catsune shook the thought away. She was not ready for children of her own, she was barely able to stand and so much of the world had changed. She needed to get used to this new life before she thought about bringing more lives into the world like Asi.

”Do all your people have such a mouth on them?” She asked, referring to the crude way the basilisk had referred to him. It was a bit of a cultural shock to say the least. Not everyone in Sunclan had been high speaking like the royal family and more permanent high positions..but neither had they spoken in such ways.

Kaia lets out an unladylike snort, covering her mouth with a small wing at the story. ”Neposlushnaya Asi, sadizm eto ne zabavnaya cherta!*” She chided, waving a paw at him. A younger male came forth, speaking of his own qualms with the alliance, putting her on the defensive. However, the canine flopped down defeatedly, and her guard dropped back to normal. Jasper, Bloodhound and Caesarion came speaking congratulations and she brightened at the latter two’s formality.

”Those ones, good knights. They speak well, one can tell wise words run around their minds.” The catsune remarked, a smile shifting over her mouth. Then Ilya came, speaking fire and storms at the retreating body of the snake before seemingly retreating back into his shell like a turtle.

”Apologies are not needed here rytsar'**, you defend your family and that speaks of honor. Be proud.” She went to press the tips of her inner wings to his face, having him look her in the face if she was successful. Her very existence here seemed out of place, with words and ideals from a far different time, upbringing and place than her brother. Than most of her new family. Yet she, for now, did not care. The former princess spoke with confidence and conviction.

When she was done, she removed her wings with a smile, folding only that pair to her sides. Her gaze flickered to Lily, specifically the hybrid’s collar and she remembered the one wrapped around her stepmother’s neck. She looked back, raising a brow at her brother, unamused.

The walk to the mansion in and of itself had been difficult, her long unused legs unable to fully hold her weight on their own. The members who had found her had to help walk her to the infirmary to be checked over by Wavepool, who found nothing wrong with her except extreme lack of exercise. That was something easily fixed by physical therapy.

For now though, she apologized to Asimov as he helped her still salt crusted self to her new room. As soon as she got in she was taking a bath, nothing else mattered but getting the cracked sheets of grit out of her fur and feathers. The feeling was just awful. Kaia looked over at the kitsune, shame seeping into her mind. She hadn’t even recognized her own brother. She remembered the faces of her half siblings better than her own littermate.

”So...Aleksei...you are...king of this land? Those people back there...they respected you.” It was less that they had respected him at all, but moreso how they had respected him. It was similar to how people respected her father and mother when she was smaller.

A note written in swirling cursive had been slipped under her door that morning, asking her out for tea later on in the day, by Dee. She knew very little of her brother’s boyfriend, though she knew just as much about Aleksei himself. Actually, she felt like she barely knew anything at all now. Everything he had revealed to her, about their father, about the shift, about how much time had passed...Kaia felt so lost.

A tea party provided some sense of normalcy, so she accepted the offer when she went down for breakfast. It was odd, having something like family meals. She’d never been able to do something like that in Sunclan. Sugaredpoi-sun, Sugaredsun had all these duties to attend to, Robin as well. Her siblings all had their own lives, some of them even had their own homes. So she rarely ever ate with anyone but her knights and tutors, she wondered what had become of them now.

Kaia padded down to the common room they’d agreed to meet at a little earlier than the time needed, sitting down in a chair and looking out the window at the gardens. The mansion was no castle, but it was a pretty close call.

As a princess, eventually she had to give up on reading books for enjoyment. All the books she read pertained to her studies, to the history of Sunclan, to the English language, to court etiquette. Having a world to get lost in was just a distraction, though she did that just fine without books sometimes. Hearing that the mansion had an extensive library was probably the best news she had received since finding out that more than half the Cartel was her family.

It was midway to dinnertime when her stomach growled, airing its grievances about her reading since six am in the morning and not having a single thing to eat or drink once she got sucked into the world of her book. She’d found a rather thick novel on the Chronicles of Narnia, but considering it was hard to maneuver she’d opted for the smaller, separated versions, stacked on the floor in front of her.

Kaia herself was curled up in a window nook, her wings unfolded but draped at her sides. The catsune seemed so absorbed in the novel that it was obvious she was likely lost to reality and would have to be poked or gently shook before she paid attention to someone. Her entire mind was in the world written on the pages, the scenes unfolding before her mind’s eye. After dreaming for as long as she’d been asleep, you’d think she’d be more ready to get back into the world, but she seemed more ready to run back to dreaming than anything else.

She didn’t tell Asimov about the Bloodclanner. Not after hearing the update of a ceasefire between their present iteration of the Sanguine Ruins and the Cartel. After hearing that most of her family was dead or missing it’s highly likely they were too. It was just unnecessary drama, unnecessary strain on her brother’s shoulders. No, this ceasefire was being kept together by loose strings and a litter of hybrids, she would not ruin it with past trials.

Kaia turned towards the door with a smile as Dee came in, wrapping her tails around her paws. As the tray was set down and her host seated, she assisted by placing their cups and saucers in their proper places. Yet she went no further, it was traditional that the host pour and drink the first sip. ”Your nurses have treated me well. I haven’t been able to get out very much due to my legs, they’ve been getting better, but I hate having to ask people to walk me around when they have things to do.” Her accent was thick, with hard consonants and rolled r’s. She learned English fluently to speak with Sunclanners, but a small part of her refused the various amounts of English accents. She stubbornly kept hers, sneaking Russian into her speech at any point she could, as if trying to cling onto a culture that might one day no longer be hers.

”Back when I was small, Sun-Solaris...we did not do business with the Cartel. We were not enemies at the time, since my father had children from one of your past leaders, Twilightzone, who stayed here. But now, this is the only home I have left.”

This is Kaia, my newest gal, she’s a cugine[shp] of the Cartel and a member of all of their divisions, though she's primarily in the host division. She’s the daughter of Sugaredsun and Robin, making her a former princess of Sunclan (now Solaris), and sister to Asimov, the Godfather of the Cartel. I’m looking to dip her toes into some plots to make things more interesting, however, almost all of these plots are closed to members who reside only or primarily in Solaris. It’s a sore spot for her right now after learning her home is no longer home. Her tags are found here as well as in her signature. Don't be afraid to ask any questions here or dm me! (just make sure to put 'plot related question(s)' in the subject line)

Godfather... it was an interesting title. ”It’s like this place is a family..” She murmured, a tired hint of a smile on her face. As they entered her room she was mentally transported back to her room at the castle. The two shared many similarities, but the most obvious one was that both rooms looked like the occupant would only be there temporarily. She knew that this room was like that because she had no personal belongings, but her old room...it’s like they were subtly preparing for occupants that weren’t quite there yet.

She leaned on the wall to get to the bathroom, nearly falling into the tub as she attempted to get in. Eventually she succeeded, and the catsune sank into the bath with a sigh. She knew that soaking would get her nowhere though, the salt would just dissolve into her bath and recrystallize when she dried off. So she began scrubbing and preening at her feathers, taking out her earrings and cleaning her piercings as well. It had been so long since they’d last been cleaned she was surprised they weren’t infected in some way, but she supposed it had something to do with the salt water.

Once it came time for the bath to be over, she called for one of the servants to first help her out of the bath, drain it, and rinse her off. She didn’t bother to have them heat it this time, she just wanted to get as much of the salty bath water out of her coat as possible before she dried off. They then combed through her tails while she went to work preening and correcting her feathers. She searched in the drawers of the bathroom sink for something to cover her eye, but to no avail. She’d just have to keep it shut.

Walking out with the help of the servant, she made her way over to the bed, flopping down unceremoniously with her wings outstretched. ”It feels like it’s been an eon since I’ve last been in a bed. How many winters have you seen now Aleksei?”

As a paw jabbed her side, the larger of her left wings swung out as if by reflex, to swipe at Asimov’s shoulders. Kaia looked up, startled, the book nearly dropping from her control. As she saw her brother she frowned, reaching out with a paw to attempt to bop him atop his head if her wing hadn’t hit its target. ”Glupyy Azimov! YA byl v knige.*” His sister scolded, though she didn’t look particularly angry with him.

Dee came in like a shadow, and having been absorbed with messing with her brother in return for his prodding, she hadn’t realized he’d come by until he spoke. ”Ah, yes. I found out you had a library and couldn’t help myself. It has been a very long time since I was able to read for pleasure alone instead of some greater purpose.” Kaia explained, drawing the ribbon attached to the book between the pages to mark her place before setting it down on the stack. He asked if she wanted anything made and she hummed, drumming a paw on her chin. ”It’s an odd request, but...do you have any blood? It’s alright if that’s out of the question..I inherited an interesting diet from my father, so part of me thinks at least one of Asimov’s children might’ve as well.” She hadn’t had any since she got here, and while she could go without for a bit, usually a pint a week was good enough to keep her from going hunger crazed. It had only happened once, before they were taken to the kingdom, but she never wanted it to happen again. Too much was wasted that day.

Cairo came over and she flashed a graceful smile at her nephew, holding up the books in an array so he could see the artwork on the covers. ”The Chronicles of Narnia. I’ve only reached the third book, but it’s an interesting world to be sure. The first book,” She tapped on the book depicting a human boy looking up at a tree with silver apples hanging from its branches. ”Sets up a lot of worldbuilding, so it can be a bit...a bit…” The cugine frowned, turning to her brother. ”Asi is there a word for bespretsedentna** in English or am I searching for something that doesn’t exist?”

”Matushka wanted you..I wanted you..even if fa-he didn’t. He missed out on a wonderful son, and an even lovelier brother.” A voice said softly, Kaia coming into view of the happy couple. ”You corrected me on my first night, that you were no king, that you wore no crown upon your head. Yet, I think you have achieved what the old king had and more. He was respected as a leader, but he was feared. Sunclan was a cult, not just of personality but of Helios. We wrecked misguided justice upon anyone who did not share our values.” She sat down as she spoke, curling her tail around her paws. ”Sunclan was feared more than it was loved. Sugaredpoison was feared more than he was loved.”

”But you rodnoy*, you are loved. The Cartel’s leader is not called a Godparent for nothing. You have created a family who loves you more than they fear you. A family who would fight alongside you without hesitation, who would live for you without hesitation. Sugaredpoison only wanted people to die for him.” Kaia spoke that last line with such conviction, it was as if she was convincing herself as well as her brother. Her throat burned, but the catsune did not cry. It was not her place, for it would only make Asimov feel worse. Even now, she still wanted to believe that her father was still the same man who taught her how to fly all those years ago. Who so boldly claimed her and her littermates as his own children. They had not needed to undergo the trial Asimov had, being cut to spill Arcanium blood to prove their worth. Why had she been awarded such confidence, when her brother was given nothing?

What had made her different? What special trait did she have that Sugaredsun had thought it oh so easy to trust her and not him? To love her and not him?

”What lovely blooms darling, it adds a wonderful touch.” She forced her own flowers to change from hyacinths to white roses as she came over, sitting beside her brother with a delicate smile. With a single, graceful wave of her paw, the flowers already planted rooted themselves into the soil, brightening up as field grass regrew around them. Once she was temporarily finished, the only evidence of the roses being imported was the obviously uneven ground. ”Kaia Arcanium-Leonidas, pleased to make your acquaintance miss. I am this one’s darling aunt, and Asimov’s sister.” The catsune spoke with a very heavy Russian accent, and if it was possible, even more formality than young Ilya.

”If I may be so curious, what poisons do you dabble in? Our family specializes in that art form, and I’m always so pleased to see others take it up.” She remembered the maturity in which Sola, Rosary and Azazel handled themselves, successfully projecting it into her own words to make up for her lack of time being an adult. It was more for her own peace of mind than anyone else’s.
