The familiar call of her mother woke the sleeping blue point she-cat. Shifting in her nest, Heatherkit let her pink tongue fall softly out of her mouth in a yawn. It took a few minutes to blink away the sleep and push herself to her feet, but soon she was emerging from the medicine cat den.

Seeing Moonwatcher, Ardentpaw, and Lightpaw gathered together looking particularly grief-stricken, she hesitated. Losing Asphodelpaw had hit her like a train. He was her best friend, number one fan, biggest supporter. Aside from her mom, of course. But the two of them had always had a close relationship - different than the one she had with Moon or that he had with the other kits. Best friends was the only way she could think to describe it. And she had been doing so well, holding it together after losing him. It was partly because she was ignoring the obvious. Heatherkit had convinced herself that maybe he wasn't dead. After all, his body was never found! It was a ridiculous thought, but it was what got her through the days.

Building up the nerve to make her way over, she rubbed gently against the silver tabby flank of her mother and gave a small smile to her brothers. "Hi," she murmured to them, paw tapping twice against the cold ground - just like it always did when she spoke, regardless of who she was around.

Timing really was everything. How was it now the third time she was seeing this strange tom on their border? Now, he was idling closely by it and looking over, as if he was thinking of crossing it. What would she do if he did? It wasn't exactly like she could defend their border - she had no training in anything other than medicine! It was silly, really, because her mentor was a warrior before becoming a medicine cat. Heatherkit made a mental note to ask for some extra training from Heatherbloom.

Stepping softly forward, she eyed the BloodClan tom with curious and wary blue eyes. "You again?" It was a soft mumble, though not exactly as friendly as she was known for, but not angry or threatening either. Just detached and montonous. A small blue paw tapped four times agains the ground before she continued padding closer to him. "Can I help you?" Six more taps.

( sorry this is so short </3 )

Although she had not been the one called for, Heatherkit bounded over when she heard the sounds of kitting. The blue point apprentice couldn't spot her mentor so she gathered some stuff she thought Redstripe would need, as best she could. Borage was a definite, as she knew it helped produce milk for the mother. Gathering it in a large ivy leaf, Heatherkit stepped into the nursery.

So ... these were her aunts and uncles? Weird. Giving the red tabby queen and her grandfather their space, the medicine cat apprentice placed the leaves gently near her head. "Congratulations, Redstripe," she murmured, tapping her paw on the soft ground of the nursery twice. "This is borage, to help produce milk. Just chew it up and swallow it and you should be good to go." Her paw tapped continuously while she spoke.

Heatherkit hadn't been there when the kitten wasn't breathing so she didn't realize that there was a weak one in the mix. "Is there anything you want me to do? I can take a look at each of them if you'd like - to make sure they're healthy. Though, I'm sure Heatherbloom would be more qualified." More paw taps. It was more than she had spoken in a long time and she smiled sheepishly at Redstripe and Blackstar. She was sure that they might just want some time alone to be with their new litter, so she idled by the exit of the nursery, just in case.

Stars ... not this again! Surely the announcements in front of the whole Clan would stop making the she-cat's hear thump unevenly, and her blood run cold. It was just a ceremony - something she should be happy about! But the first thought entering her mind that she was in trouble and the feline tapped her paw faster than ever, nervous for the announcement her mother was making. Was she being stripped of her position? Was she in trouble? What was wrong? The thought never even occurred to her that this was her long-awaited official ceremony.

Stepping up to her mother, the blue point child took a steadying breath, trying to slow the tapping of her front right paw as she gazed up at Moonwatcher with wide, nervous eyes.

Heatherpaw had been blissful the last few days. She was officially given her apprentice name and she and Heatherbloom would be visiting the Moonstone together soon! All grief from her father's death had been halted while she let herself enjoy this moment. Sometimes, she even hummed to him as she worked. The tiny cream and blue apprentice was sorting the herbs softly, waiting for Heathebloom to come back and train her more, when she heard the call.

"Uh guys? I found y- our medicine cat, and I'm worried she froze out there."

Surely not, right? Surely that wasn't true. Heatherbloom was strong. Maybe this newcomer had it wrong. Stepping out of the den, Heatherpaw's icy gaze found the one of her mentor. Redstripe and Brinetail were mourning close by and the apprentice felt her world stop. No ... Not again. She couldn't keep losing everyone she cared about like this. Everyone's words sounded like echoes in her blue ears that were now pinned against her small cranium. She took unsteady steps forward until she was standing underneath Redstripe, peeking out from between the ginger warrior's front two limbs.

"R-Redstripe? Why is she laying so still? She's sleeping pretty hard." Her paw thumped furiously against the ground as her anxiety began to flare up. In her position, she knew what it meant when cats died. Heatherpaw was quite smart and it was obvious that the she-cat laying before her had gone to the stars. She just didn't want to believe it. Her throat began to close and within the next few seconds, Heatherpaw's legs buckled and she was lying in a heap between Redstripe's paws, unconscious.

( yeet she's heatherpaw now so just pretend this is after her ceremony! )

Lips forming into a scowl as he took a step forward, Heatherpaw took another step closer to him. Maybe it was crazy - playing chicken like this with a BloodClanner, especially when she knew that she would lose. But her stubbornness was flaring up at his every word and she didn't know how to respond to a a comment that sounded nice but was paired with body language that was threatening. Her scowl disappeared at his comment about her being the only one able to help him. "Is that so?" she murmured? Six taps.

Her heart pulled to help this stranger on the border, regardless of where she was form. It was part curiosity - wanting to know what it could be that he wanted from her. The other part was wanting to help him. DeWitt was lucky he stumbled upon someone so selfless, someone so eager to help others and make them happy, regardless of her opinions about the situation. "What is it than I can help you with?" Words spilled out, bell-like and much more friendly than before. For someone so young, her words and inflection were rather mature and she took a seat politely, curling her long blue tails around her small paws. She tapped the right one numerous times while she spoke. "I don't even know your name. If you'd like my help, I would appreciate you staying on your side of the border."

Being left as the only medic of ThunderClan was not a joyful thing for the she-cat. Stressed tugged at her mind, twisting in her stomach as she desperately tried to organize the herbs, without even knowing half of their uses. Everyone constantly needed something and it felt as if the whole world was running ahead of her and she was fighting to catch up - while trying not to trip and fall over every obstacle in her way. Oftentimes, she found herself laying in her den, begging StarClan to help her and questioning their motives. You take my father, my mentor, and you throw me into this position alone. I need help. Help me please! Despite her desperate attempts to reach them, they did not give her any signs that things were looking up. In fact, things seemed to keep getting worse.

Heatherpaw was carrying a pile of borage to the Nursery for Redstripe and the other queens when she tripped over a lone rock. The leaves went flying and she landed on her chin. A yelp of surprise left her maw and the blue point feline quickly scrambled to her feet again, horribly embarrassed. Keeping her head down, she tried to stop the tears from coming while she hurried to collect the borage inside the ivy leaf once again. In her mess, she hadn't even realized there was a tom beside her that she hadn't even met yet - probably laughing at the whole ordeal.
