    Like Oliveberry, this was a new thing to the raven-furred tom. He hadn't been on a normal border patrol yet, though he had been on SkyClan territory multiple times. Back when he was still a loner living in the twolegplace, he would often seek refuge amongst the tall trees and songbirds for some peace and quiet away from the violent brawls of the alley cats. There, he found most of his food. He wasn't exactly sure how he hadn't been caught by a SkyClan patrol, but he had made sure to be extra careful and only steal from them in the dead of night. If they ever found out, well......Panthergaze couldn't imagine that they'd be too thrilled about that.

    Now that there was a chance for him to experience his first official border patrol, he figured he would take it. Rising to his paws, Panthergaze padded over to join his two clanmates with a nod. "I'd like to come," he said, deciding between the two options in his head. "SkyClan sounds fun."

    HISTORY

    - panthergaze was once a rogue, going by the name "panther". his mother, smokey, raised him in the alleys of the twolegplace near skyclan and bloodclan. panther didn't like the violent lifestyle of the loners and rogues that dominated the streets, so he ran away to the forest in search of a new home.

    - he joined riverclan and took the warrior name "panthergaze". gladestar taught him how to fish.

    - panthergaze, along with frogpaw and emeraldpaw, received a prophecy from starclan about how to save the clans from the fatal heatwave. after discovering that a few select cats from the other clans had also received the prophecy, he attended a meeting with the prophecy cats from each clan where they discussed what should be done.

    im down for that.

    right now I have panther's mom listed as an npc rogue called smokey who lived in the twolegplace so maybe they could have had some one night stand or whatever

    should we do a public thread? or private?

    It had occurred to him before that the other clans didn't have as easy an access to water as RiverClan did. They were lucky to have their source of life flowing on all sides of the camp, while the other clans most likely needed to walk pretty far in order to simply get a drink. On hot days like these, he couldn't imagine how unbearable it was.

    His inky black fur didn't exactly help either. Panthergaze waded into the shallows beside Hickorypaw, allowing his lower half to sink gently into the current. The cool feeling seeped through his hot, ruffled pelt, though it was only a temporary relief. The river wasn't exactly cold enough to be refreshing for more than a few seconds. He listened to his clanmate's worries about the other clans, landlocked, as Gladestar had described them. "I'm sure they've got some water, or else they'd be dead already." He swirled the water with his right paw, seemingly distracted by his thoughts. "I just hope it's enough."

    It was difficult to ignore the hunger that gnawed away at his insides. With every step he took, he could feel the hollow emptiness widening within him, begging for food that wouldn't come. Panthergaze had been hungry before, but somehow this was worse. Not only did he have to suffer for himself, but he had to watch everyone around him suffer as well. It took a toll on his health, and he could tell it was draining for those around him as well.

    At first, he didn't exactly register what the kitten had shouted. Blinking his eyes, he focused on the pile of skinny, shriveled fish that Pincerkit had closely guarded underneath her paws. They were by no means a standard meal for any cat, hardly enough for a kitten as small as her. "Wow. I'm assuming you caught all of those yourself?" He joked, the smallest of smiles tugging on his maw. She was far too young to understand the severity of the situation, so no, he couldn't exactly be angry at her. "Y'know Pincerkit, in times like these it's better to share. If fish were falling out of the sky, you could have as many as you want." She was just a kid. Explain it to her gently so she'd understand one day.

    He listened to the input of his clanmates, the voices of uncertainty, voices of relief, some without a voice at all, offering curious eyes and ears in place of words. He understood the want for solid answers, for concrete facts and definite solutions, but he was getting the impression that StarClan didn’t work that way. They had left them with nothing but a vague prophecy to interpret all on their own.

    Frogpaw had put his thoughts into words. No, they had no way of knowing if any of this would work. They still needed to try though. "We’ve still gotta try. Anything is better than the current situation, y’know? Sure, maybe the clans won’t get along......" Oh, how he wished he could just tell the leaders to suck it up to prevent them all from dying. Too bad Panthergaze didn’t have the guts to do that. ".....but I think I’d rather put up with the bickering than wait around and continue to do nothing. I don’t really think meeting together will make this heatwave magically disappear, but if we agree to help each other out than it could make things better for every cat." The selfishness he had seen in the twolegplace, the hoarding of prey, refusal to help the sick and the shared feelings of fear and desperation between every alley cat had lead to nothing but death. No progress, no stability. Panthergaze didn’t want to watch the same thing happen to his new home, and to his new family.

    I'll post a public thread, maybe panther still has his mom's nametag from her collar or something and shark recognizes it and then the big reveal happens ??

    also yeah im glad hes back bc shark is legendary

    "It's alright kid, he's just chilling there," came the gentle voice of Panthergaze from the shallow part of the stream. Judging from Okapipaw's aggressive tone, he could tell that the interaction between the two wasn't gonna go well unless someone stepped in to break them up. Though he hadn't been in the clans too long, he knew that apprentices could be quick to pull out their claws at the tiniest bit of conflict.

    He waded towards the trail of stones, following the ThunderClan tom's gaze to the stepping stones that provided easy access to RiverClan's shore. Was he actually planning on crossing? Honestly, Panthergaze didn't care that much. They were on good terms with ThunderClan, so he could imagine that they would deal with him pretty quickly if he wanted to stir up trouble on RiverClan's land. "Goldenpaw.......uh, nice to meet you. What are you doing out here in the middle of the night all by yourself?" Honestly, it was a bit late for them to be out all alone. Lack of sleep had personally driven him to the riverside, but with the busy training schedules of the younger clan members, he couldn't imagine why they wouldn't want to be asleep in their nests right now.

    He was hungry like the rest of his clan, which made thinking about most other things pretty difficult. It was a constant nagging in his mind, a tug in his stomach, a voice begging to be fed. Though Panthergaze had pretty much grown used to blocking it out to focus on other tasks, there were times that it was hard to ignore.

    At first, he assumed Komodofire had finally given in to that voice and was resorting to eating grass due to severe hunger. He stopped in his tracks, silent as first as he watched with internal fear. Was there no food left on the pile at all? Not even a scrawny minnow? Was it driving her to insanity? The possibility that their resources had finally run out gripped his heart.

    It wasn't until he heard her voice that he relaxed his shoulders and let out a small sigh of relief. No, she hadn't gone crazy. She was just......eating grass for fun. Or, was it fun? Foxpaw had copied her and was pulling stalks out by his teeth as well, though it was clear he wasn't enjoying it as much. Again, the concern grew inside of him. He didn't wanna get involved in her business, and this was definitely gonna be awkward for the both of him, but part of him wondered if she was truly ok. "Hey, uh.....would you rather try to find some real food?" he asked, unsure of how to phrase the question. "I mean, if you wanna eat grass that's totally fine.....it's just.....uhh." Okay, maybe he had dug himself into a hole. "Are you eating that 'cause you're hungry?"

    Allergic to the sun? That was a new one. He couldn't tell if the golden apprentice was being serious about that, or if he was just messing with them. However, that was the least of his worries now, for Frogpaw had dared him to wade into the water and it seemed like the ThunderClanner just simply couldn't refuse.

    "Y'know you can just look at the sunningrocks from the shore, right? I don't wanna have to drag you out once you slip under." Panthergaze's expression was somewhat amused, and somewhat tired. Tired in the sense that he just wanted to go to bed now and didn't feel like dealing with this pompous asshole. However, he'd be lying if he said he didn't find this whole thing a little bit entertaining. A bunch of kids standing off against each other, and Panthergaze as their chaperone, only there to make sure they didn't do anything too entirely stupid.

    Shadepaw seemed to be just as fascinated by the idea as he was, which was a bit relieving. Honestly, he had been expecting the apprentice to make fun of him for it. Nothing he wasn't used to already, but hey, it was good to see that someone else had the same appreciation for the wonders of light and nature as Panthergaze did.

    Then came along a cat he had never seen before, one clumsy misstep sending a few of the pieces scattering across the earth. At first, his ears involuntarily flattened in a moment of brief annoyance. The moment passed and his shoulders relaxed before letting out a small laugh. "It's fine, it only took, like, a few seconds to put together." He wasn't trying to make her feel bad about it. Reaching a paw out, he began reassembling the pieces that had fallen out of place, listening to Shadepaw's conversation with the tribe cats in the background. He stifled a snort of laughter as Shadepaw proudly asserted that he was a full grown warrior. Well, he wasn't gonna embarrass the kid, so he stayed silent on that matter.

    Despite the large crowd that was gathering around them, he didn't feel on edge like he normally would. These cats were friendly, curious about his art, curious to meet new faces. There was something like this that felt natural, the way cats should gather. He glanced up at Lion and Valley, giving a flick of his tail. "So you guys walked all the way here from the mountains? You planning on staying overnight or something? That's a really long walk back. " Panthergaze was already tired, and RiverClan only lived a short distance away from Fourtrees. He couldn't imagine how long it would take these two to trek all the way back to their camp.

    // SHADEPAW. OhGeezItsALION!   Stoneteller .

    Man, he was finally getting the hang of this. It had seemed like forever before he was able to flash out his paw quick enough to hook one of the slippery little dudes, but now that he had made his way over that learning curve it wasn't so bad after all. He had just caught a decent sized carp outside of the RiverClan camp and had dropped it in the sand with a satisfied look. Was he on his way to becoming an expert hunter? Maybe so. Panthergaze would like to think that one day, he'd be scooping out fish left and right from the river, but for now he still needed time to improve. His stance was still wobbly, and he was by no means as sharp-clawed and quick as some of his clanmates that had been fishing since the day they stepped out of the nursery. Although Panther had been a warrior of RiverClan for well over three moons, he still had much to learn about the ways of the water-dwellers.

    He sat down in a shaded area of the riverbank to take a break, the heat radiating from his pitch-black pelt almost too much to handle. He was gonna have to take a swim soon, wasn't he? Panthergaze stretched his forelegs and rested his head on his paws, watching the stream trickle by gracefully. Today was peaceful, despite the heat, and for the first time in a few days he felt completely relaxed.

    //this is sorta a re-intro thread lol
