the funeral was the hardest part. but i guess that makes sense, right? i mean, you had loved this person for three years, had shared a lifetime of memories with them- it's only natural it would be hard to say goodbye to all that. especially so suddenly, so violently and hatefully. they say she was stabbed a dozen times times. in the chest, right between each rib, coming closer and closer to that too-big heart of hers until it finally pierced through it. it's a terrible way to go, really, and no one would blame you if you were having a tough time with it. but what you didn't expect was to see the mangled corpse of your dead lover, floating over her casket, staring at you. watching you. pitying you. the image fades quick, and for a moment, you thought you were just hallucinating. but then you feel the chill in the air, hear the whispers and faintest crying whimpers, and you realize something. your girlfriend (ex-girlfriend?) might have been dead, but that didn't mean she was gone.

hi! this thread is ever so loosely based off the myth of orpheus and eurydice (and, by extension, hadestown im sorry its just such a GOOD musical). for those unfamiliar, opheus and eurydice are madly in love, and they get married. however, eurydice dies and is sent to the underworld, as is what happens when one dies. so, orpheus travels to the underworld to get eurydice and bring her back to the living world. with some convincing, hades agrees to let orpheus try, under the condition that orpheus lead eurydice out of the underworld without ever looking back at her. and so they go, and they almost make it, but for whatever reason (passion, doubt, excitement), orpheus ends up looking back at eurydice, and she gets sent back to the underworld forever. some accounts have orpheus reuniting with his wife upon his eventual death, some don't, but that's the very short version of the myth of orpheus and eurydice. like i said, loosely based! my basic plot for this thread is 'your character and mine are getting married soon, madly in love, and completely devoted to one another. however, right before the wedding, my character is brutally murdered. reason can be plotted- but my character was definitely targeted for some reason. and now she's dead. that sucks. anyways, at my character's funeral, yours catches a glimpse of mine as a ghost. and your character is like!! what the fuck!! but, rather than being shocked for long, this gives your character hope that maybe, just maybe, there may yet be a way to save her fallen lover. also, i imagine there being a lot of trials and challenges, i dont know if they'll actually end up going to the underworld or if it'll all be in vein because you can't marry a ghost stupid. this plot gives us a lot of wiggle room for plotting is my point. we can plot in our dm's alongside replying, or put the roleplay on pause while we plot ahead, or wing it! i'm fine with whatever works best for you :^)

❀ standing at an average height of 5'5, barbara isn't the most intimidating kind of girl in terms of height. she has a fairly average build, perhaps could be classically described as "thick", weighing in at a healthy 136 pounds. her skin is soft and radiant, hair silky and flowing. basically, barbara is the kind of woman so beautiful people usually assume she's some kind of stupid bitch. she always carries herself well, dressing herself up well (albeit in thrifted clothes).

& BACKGROUND

barbara comes from a loving, happy home. she has a mom and a dad, as well as a little sister (five years her junior). it's almost unusual, how close they all are, even as she gets older and more distant. she first came out to her parents when she was fifteen, and was super duper ready to move out that night should things go bad. i mean, she already had her bags packed and everything. but right as the words, "i like girls" fell from birdie's lips, both of her parents burst out laughing. because surprise! they were both bi! it caught birdie way off guard and now it's a huge joke among the family. they actually tease her little sister a lot for being the one straight member of the family. birdie wanted to study corrections before ending up a cop. her father had had a minor stint in jail when birdie was like, ten, on a possession charge (of weed). when birdie got a bit older, she was curious to know what it was like, and when she found out, she was absolutely mortified. birdie couldn't believe the atrocities she was hearing, and after doing her own research on the tragic conditions, birdie knew she had to do something about it. however, barbara soon found she just didn't have the heart for it, so she switched her focus to being a cop in general. but then she died and that sucks

& PERSONALITY

birdie is confident and oozes charm, loyal and intelligent, but easily persuaded into doing dumb things with the promise of pleasure or any sort of reward in general. tough, brave, and bold. she's been through a whole lot, growing up with a good amount of homophobia and sexism, so she has extremely thick skin. her emotions get in the way a lot though, often leading to fights she probably can't win. easily excited, super duper forgiving. a big teddy bear to her girlfriends. speaks her mind without filter- often hurts people without realizing it. the kind of person who can get along well with anyone. but she WILL kill someone if they hurt one of her friends. it's true, i've seen her do it. life of the party, very fun to be around. gets protective of people really easily. she doesn't even need to see them get hurt, or they could be like 100x stronger than her, if she sees someone she likes she PROTECT.

Nerdy. hmm, i can see them bonding over being drinking buddies! idk if he'd really like scarlett when she's drinking though, she's a very depressed and sad drunk. but after enough time drinking together scarlett would trust him enough to like. show bits and pieces of her real puppydog personality to him, especially because she'd see a good amount of herself in him after she got to know him better

i can TOTALLY see alouette having a crush on leilani!! she's like, everything alouette wants in a partner. it would take her a little bit to get over the tough girl persona thing & her lack of showing emotions, but i feel like she'd get over it during their friendship phase so it wouldn't matter. i'd love for them to develop from friends - lovers if that's alright!! idk who would make the first move in them becoming friends (i could see either, though i'm leaning towards alouette because she's more socially skilled than leilani), but i'm already making headcanons about their friendship in my head skjfskajf

like, since leilani is so bad in conversation, i can imagine alouette just raving and ranting about her political topic of the day and understanding leilani wouldn't be able to add much besides nod but like?? the feeling of having her listen to her no matter what. that's some good shit right there. we are all mad here

ohh gotcha gotcha. alouette is really perceptive to that kinda thing and is like, the queen of not fitting in, so she'd definitely understand and embrace that part of leilani.

i havent gotten to think of many yet (i've been working on scarlett's opinions on the Cast^tm so i can only think in her mind) khsafj. they're just fragments rn- like, i can imagine alouette getting all angsty after feeding and she complains to leilani for like an hour, or sneaking her out into the woods whenever leilani gets upset so she can calm her down. cute shit like that. we are all mad here

oo! alouette would definitely sneak off from abbi with leilani whenever the started dating (not permanently, just when they needed alone time), but i can see them being a lil friend trio

scarlett's thoughts

HEADMISTRESS. MELISSA: no real intense opinion either way. Vinny respects her, through tries to stay clear of her if she can, as she finds the whole mom act very annoying (also, she has a problem with mother figures in general, so she’s a little wary of her true intentions)

TESSA: is kinda ‘meh’ on. She’s not on good terms with her, but she’s not on bad terms. She despises her petty bitch attitude, and is against her use of blackmail, but scarlett tolerates her for her image’s sake.

WILLIAM: openly hates. Scarlett doesn’t trust his ‘kind guy’ attitude, and hates his dominant ‘god’s gift to women’ attitude. Even if it’s not as bad as scarlett makes it out to be. Also that jealous and impatient attitude? Yeah, he can fuck off with that.

PROF. JUNO: scarlett fucks with her. No matter how hard she tries, she can’t find anything to not trust about her. Professor juno is one of the only adults scarlett will willingly open up to if asked. She ends up in her office more often than she ends up in her actual dorm.

JOCELYN: neutral. Scarlett would probably get a drink with her if she asked, but she’s not a fan of her stubborn attitude, nor of her ego. However, scarlett doesn’t mind spending time with her, and actually has fun with her due to that adventurous spirit of hers.

LEILANI: likes her. She has the fun adventurous attitude jocelyn has, but without the added bitchty attitude. Scarlett wants to be her friend but is kinda clueless as to how to go about it, especially considering leilani is like. The opposite of nearly all of her close friends.

NURSE GABRIEL: LOVES. Scarlett loves going into her office (even when she’s not feeling sick at all), loves petting and playing around with bo, loves the way she can tell gabriel anything without any repercussions. Gabriel has all the motherly vibes that melissa does, but scarlett is able to push all that aside when she sees how trustworthy gabriel actually is. Plus, bo loves gabriel, and scarlett trusts a dog’s opinion on their owner.

ALOUETTE: lil pansy ass bitch. Scarlett feels bad for her, and kinda wishes she would just go with the social norms so she’d stop being picked on.

ELISE: she’s quite fond of her, actually. She appreciates the lengths elise goes to make others feel included, and though scarlett doesn’t like how quick elise is to judge people, she doesn’t go out of her way to hurt people, so it’s fine. Scarletts’ puppy dog personality shines brightest when she’s around elise, as she just wants to hug (and kiss) her and quell and self confidence concerns she may have. Probably crushing on her.

HUNTER: not fond of at all. She hates his ‘happy go lucky’ attitude, and his childish nature presents itself as annoying, rather than endearing, to scarlett.

EVELYN: she’s kinda mehhhhh on her. On one hand, scarlett can’t stand her constant optimism, and finds the fact she can’t take anything seriously infuriating. However, scarlett also finds evelyn enchanting, and appreciates the efforts she goes to to make everyone feel included. Scarlett probably couldn’t spend much time with evelyn, but she doesn’t dislike her, either.

PROF. ETHAN: the whole ‘chivalry is dead’ thing makes scarlett want to barf. Over the years, she’s picked up on his underhanded ways of getting students to achieve their ‘full potential’, even when they don’t want that for themselves. though some parts of ethan’s personality don’t show (because scarlett doesn’t see him outside of a classroom setting), she’s also gotten a sense of the aparthy he feels for the people around him, and it disgusts her.

PROF. ARTHUR: unlike professor ethan, scarlett respects the hell out of professor arthur. He’s fair but firm, willing to hear scarlett out, but not willing to take her bullshit. She can tell there is an underlying motive of care behind every one of his actions, and she respects him for it.

ABIGAIL: SCARLETT CAN AND WILL THROW HANDS OVER THIS GIRL. abigail is one of the only people scarlett would flat out refuse to be mean to. Scarlett is so crazy protective over abigail it’s not even funny. If she catches someone being meant to her, abigail will straight up go into her wolf form and rip them to shreds. In turn, (assuming they’re friends because i know abbi doesnt like werewolves) abigail is currently the only person to have seen scarlett in full on puppydog form. Scarlett wants to be her best friend, and (again, assuming they are friends), considers abigail her best friend. Trusts abigail with her life. Even if they’re not friends and abbi tells her to fuck off on account of her being a werewolf, scarlett would act mean and act like she’d bully her but she wouldn’t. Inwardly, she’d feel so sad and heartbroken (what! Emotions?? In my scarlett??), but she’d still protect her any time anyone tried shit. Oh also she loves playing with her rats

CYRUS: she’d probably start off being pretty meh towards him. She definitely wouldn’t understand why all the girls swoon over him, and would probably be a little offended if she noticed his preference towards humans. But she’d also be open to drinking with him, and whenever they did, she’d probably grow to trust him and actually start liking him. I can see her, like, setting him up with all the pretty straight girls scarlett tried hitting on. But she’d definitely expect the favor to be returned- if cyrus ever flirted with an uninterested gay girl, she’d be so pissed off if cyrus didn’t send her scarlett’s way.

OCTAVIAN: scarlett fucks with him. though octavian himself probably isn’t fond of scarlett (due to how much of a btich she is to protect her fabled image), scarlett respects octavian’s kind soul, and feels bad whenever that too-big heart of his gets him into trouble. Octavian might not ever realize this, but every time scarlett finds out the name of the last person who abused octavian’s forgiveness, scarlett makes sure they pay especially hard.

LISILIAL: hates the horse girl aspect to her personality, but otherwise, she’s chill with her. She’d probably get a drink with her if she asked (not that she would, both because lisilial doesnt seem like that kind of girl, and that she probably hates scarlett because of how bad of a person she is). If she ever got to know her more, scarlett would see a lot of herself in her.

LAINEY: i can’t see them being friends (at first at least) due to how different their social circles are) but she’s pretty chill with lainey. Another person scarlett would happily go drinking with. If they ever did become friends, scarlett would probably try and set her up with any cute (decent) guy she sees.

PROF. DIANA: MAD sus…. But scarlett also kinda respects her in a weird way? Like, scarlett does not trust her at all. Not one bit. And it’s not even the paranoia talking this time- she just wigs the fuck out of her. But scarlett thrives in her class and likes the doodles she puts on her tests.

VIKAE: they’re like, the same person. Scarlett would probably be friends with her (on that fake, surface level anyways). Scarlett is actually kind of scared of her. A solid third of the reason scarlett doesn’t want her soft interior to show is because she’d be afraid of v’s reaction. She wants to become real friends with her, but she doesn’t know where to start, and is afraid of pissing her off and ending up dead in a ditch somewhere. Scarlett has no clue about v’s own softer side.

alouette's thoughts

HEADMISTRESS. MELISSA: big big big heart eyes. Alouette doesn’t really feel accepted or loved in the school all that much, but melissa is like the understanding, loving, knowledgeable mom she’s always wanted.

TESSA: fear.jpg. For once, alouette has a distrust of humans in general, considering all they put her through at her old school. And for another? Tessa just straight up worries her. Alouette tries to stay on her good side, because she’s seen the way she blackmails people. That being said, besides the whole ‘tessa might expose her darkest secrets and use them against her and ruin her life’ thing, alouette actually really likes her personality.

WILLIAM: also fear.jpg (youre gonna see that a lot on this list). She’s less afraid of william than she is of his sister, but she’s heard rumors of his impatience and jealousy. She’d be willing to befriend william if he tried to befriend her, but otherwise she steers clear.

PROF. JUNO: LOVES. REAL HARD. alouette doesn’t spend a lot of time in her office (she doesn’t want to bother her) but she appreciates her ability to help people feel better, and alouette trusts her so so much.

JOCELYN: terror.jpg. Her impulsiveness and anger makes alouette afraid to be in the same room with her whenever she’s had a bad day.

NURSE GABRIEL: STANS SO HARD. again, she doesn’t go in her office all that often because she doesn’t want to take time away from people who need it, but bo is her best friend. She loves bo so much and she’s pretty sure bo likes her back. She also trusts gabby an infinite amount.

SCARLETT: fear. Terror. Would rather stick her hand in a woodchipper than get near her.

ELISE: she’s kinda meh about her. On one hand, she loves being around elise, as she’s very fun and very kind. However, alouette can kinda tell that elise judges her on how she presents herself. So she considers her a friend, but is wary around her.

HUNTER: trusts him endlessly and loves spending time with him. He’s everything alouette loves in a person, and as far as alouette can tell, he’s never cared about the way alouette expresses herself.

EVELYN: loves loves loves!! Alouette gets along best with people who see the glass half full. Also, she gets along much better with faes than anyone else, considering everything about alouette screams forest fae. So, with those two factors in mind, it makes sense that alouette gets along best with evelyn.

ETHAN: terrified. Every time she goes into his classroom, her heart sinks to the bottom of her stomach. Not only has she heard rumor after rumor about his nefarious deeds, she gets a horrible vibe from him. The fact he’s a human, the fact he gives off the worst vibes ever, and the rumors all combine into one nasty phobia. Whenever he asks her to stay after class, she makes sure someone knows where she’s going and texts them as soon as she’s done.

PROF. ARTHUR: alouette likes him. She doesn’t have any intense emotions one way or another towards him, but she likes that he respects her in the classroom, while still pushing her to do her best.

ABIGAIL: stans! Also kinda plotted already, but she sees a lot of herself in abbi. At least, she sees the person alouette was always afraid of being. It was part of the reason she went to every length to try to befriend her and help out with her loneliness. Alouette really wants abigail to be able to be herself in front of more people besides her and leilani.

CYRUS: she has no reason to be afraid of him, but she is. He just kinda has the kind of vibe alouette likes to avoid in people, and kinda like with lainey, it’s sometimes more the people he hangs with and less about him. Maybe she’s just afraid of strong men (likely), but she seriously does not like being around cyrus for an extended amount of time.

OCTAVIAN: loves loves loves octavian! He has all the kindness elise has, but without any of the judgyness. She trusts him a lot and rants to him about political things whenever he has an open ear. She feels so bad whenever a guy abuses his kindness in a relationship (if it’s ever happened before), and is always there to offer support in his time of need.

LISILIAL: pretty neutral. Alouette likes her and isn’t like, afraid that she’s gonna beat her up or anything. But they’re not really friends, and though alouette wouldn’t mind to be, she has no particular interest in befriending her. through, she’d love to meet her horses.

LAINEY: lainey isn’t exactly alouette’s kinda girl, and just because she’s friends with some other dudes she’s scared of, she doesn’t exactly like being around her. Alouette would be fine to work with her in class or something, but she’s terrified of her/her friends getting mad at her for something and making her life a little hellish. Has no idea about her self confidence issues.

PROF. DIANA: doesn’t trust her all that much. Doesn’t like the look in her eye, it seems too fake-kind for her to really trust her. But she also likes the doodles on her tests and has never felt disrespected by her in the classroom setting. And it’s not like she has any real reason besides bad vibes not to trust her, so she tries to push it all aside.

VIKAE: out of everyone alouette is terrified of, v is the only person alouette is truly, purely afraid of. With most people, alouette is wary of, and alouette thinks that they may be able to hurt her. But with v? I mean, alouette is honest-to-god afraid of going ‘mysteriously missing’ after bumping into her in the hallway or something.
