I'LL BE A DREAMER —
She was alive. What a strange thought to have. Of course she was alive. She'd been alive for three months, going on four. So why was it so surprising to feel the blades of grass beneath her paws? The wind rustle her fur?
Why did it feel like she had just taken her first breath when she knew for a fact that she had been breathing for months? Her soft green eyes looked around, trying to piece together all of her foggy memories for the hundredth time. She hadn't been able to come up with a mother or a father in the blurred colors that made up her memories before recently. If she'd ever had one, she did not know them and she probably never would. Oh well.
She had this strange feeling that she remembered being surrounded by people she knew, friends and family. But if any of them were real she could not picture their faces. So she brushed off the idea, deciding it was her own overactive imagination and the strange dreams she sometimes had.
She shoved the thoughts away, exhaling softly as she glanced around the grassy area she'd resided in for all of her remembered life. The fox pup was honestly surprised she had lived this long off of random plants she'd consumed, going on pure hope that she wasn't about to poison herself. Coupled with the fact that her mint colored fur was hardly camouflage, she was slightly impressed by her durability. This being said, the child had grown tired of this place. She wasn't sure what exactly had stirred her in that moment, but all of a sudden she was on the move. She didn't think twice about leaving her former home behind, though she did wonder what exactly was drawing her in this particular direction. She hadn't ever explored very far, never having a reason until now. What she found was the grassy area opened up into the largest body of water she had ever seen. She had never heard of the ocean before and so had no knowledge of why so much water had collected in this particular spot. But what she understood even less was why she seemed to be pulled further still by some invisible force. Somewhere out there was something she needed to find. And she would find it. She was nothing if not determined.
Upon deciding she couldn't swim at all, let alone swim across the ocean to an island in the distance, the girl trotted around curiously, nose tilted upwards, breathing in the smell of salty air. By pure luck it seemed, the girl managed to run into a large bird who had apparently learned manners from somewhere and decided not to eat her. He told her he was an albatross, though she did not know what that meant. Her offered a ride and she accepted, though she wasn't sure where he was taking her. She had never learned not to trust strangers. Fortunately, he dropped her off on the shore of an island, with nothing more than a hurried, "they're around here somewhere.. probably.." before taking off.
She was left there, standing in silence on the sand, unsure what she was meant to do now. She had come here for a reason unknown to her and now there was no going back. Unless, of course, the bird ever returned to check up on her. Supposing there could be more creatures as polite as the albatross, the child began walking slowly away from the ocean, into the depths of the island. This was interesting, to say the least.
"Hello?" She called to no one in particular. "Your air is salty. I don't know why that is, but I thought you might want to know, in case no one has ever told you. I assume they didn't mention it out of politeness, and maybe I shouldn't have either but I figure, y'know, the politest thing I can do is tell the truth, so there you have it. Although, now that I think about it, you probably knew it was salty already. It's kind of obvious, honestly." She paused long enough to realize she was rambling on about things that weren't important. "Oh, also, my name is Sidewalk. That seems like a weird name. I don't know what it means, I just know it's my name. I think maybe I shouldn't tell strangers my name, but I don't know how you're supposed to become not-strangers if you don't ever tell each other your names." And that was all she had to say for the moment, so she sat down and waited for something to happen.
/ eek sorry this is so long! anyway hello!
