Cowpaw was relieved that Buzzardpaw was agreeing to treat him. While he might have been trespassing and lying about it, he really was ill and in desperate need of treatment. It was a clan cat's duty to help those in need. The apprentice was mildly confused as the stranger seemed to refuse herbs, causing him to open his jaws to object. Ironclaw beat him to the punch, though, leaving him to only nod in agreement. Following the orders of his step-in leader, Cowpaw spotted some moss within reach and began collecting it, making sure to stay close in case Buzzardpaw needed him. When he finished, the cat made up the nest and offered it to the tom, wondering if he was going to grace them with a name just yet. Maybe he would feel more comfortable if they weren't strangers! "I'm Cowpaw, an apprentice of WindClan," he introduced, "I hope you like the nest. I know it's a little small, but I can collect more if you like!"
cowprince: well that doesn't sound very nice, lightsy. say, what would jasper say about that?
cowprince: wolfie!! /tackles/ i'm gonna go get SLAMMED with the other apprentices! wanna come?
The morning bird was up far before Thornpaw, so when the grumpy apprentice emerged from their shared den, Cowpaw offered a big grin. "Good morning, Thornpaw! Someone put beetles in your nest or something?" He laughed at the annoyed expression on his perceived friend's face before glancing around. Most of the warriors would be up by now, as well as other apprentices for the dawn patrol. "Are you assigned this morning's patrol, too?" questioned Cowpaw.
/ahem low muse
ooc: aa tysm <33 i tried to make him as pure as possible, i like having one sweet child lmao
The venom dripping from Thornpaw's lips bounced right off the cheerful apprentice, who merely kept his lop-sided grin focused on the prickly tom. When he got to the part about tearing out the innards of anyone who placed beetles in his nest, Cowpaw had to raise a paw to stifle his giggles, though a few escaped just as the kits were passing by, earning him some curious glances. Still, they didn't seem interested enough to ask, which was likely to their benefit. Kits didn't need to know curse words just yet. Instead flicking his tail eagerly as Thornpaw revealed that he was, in fact, attending the morning patrol with him, Cowpaw's eyes lit up. "Oh, yippee!" cheered the spotted tom, "Maybe we can train together afterwards, too!" His sparkling, hopeful gaze touched Thornpaw's downcast expression. It would be relatively difficult to rain on this cat's parade, though the other apprentice could probably make it possible (with the right amount of effort).
cow can host a play group for all the apprentices and kits! warriors too if they want c;
sweet I'll toss up a thread in about an hour when I get home
Similar to Ironclaw, Cowpaw was having difficulty sleeping. Seeking to relieve his wakeful mind with the night's cool breeze, he emerged from the apprentices' den to trail out of camp for a walk. It wasn't long before he caught the deputy's scent, drawing his curiosity. What was the deputy doing out so late? Had he been kept up by the heat as well? Wondering, Cowpaw diverted his path to investigate, drawing nearer to Ironclaw but also approaching the scent of blood. Heart beginning to pick up, anxiety gnawed on his insides. Why was there blood scent in their peaceful moors? An uncomfortable feeling of dread began to dawn on him the same moment he parted through the bushes, joining Ironclaw in the moorlands that held Condorheart's last breath.
He froze at the sight of her, jaw gaping open in shock. Her body was already cooling, vermin surrounding her with death on their lips. There was part of him that was glad the lizards had died killing his Clanmate, but the other part... Condorheart didn't deserve this. She had been a strong, proud warrior - one WindClan had been immensely grateful for. She was loved, adored even, and Cowpaw knew she would be dearly missed among the clan. Moving forward ever so slowly to join Ironclaw in his mourning, the apprentice bowed his head. "May StarClan light her path."
Cowpaw had seen Morningfrost among camp as he raced after Rabbitkit, so he wasn't surprised to find the warrior emerging beside them. The older cat offered Fuzzy a welcome, for which the tom was grateful. She seemed like a good kit, one that would make a fine warrior some day. He could only imagine what time would reveal of her abilities - he was delighted she would be part of their happy little clan. After she re-introduced herself to Morningfrost, she gave some curious inquiries to 'camp' and 'food', drawing a bubble of laughter from Cowpaw. Before he got ahold of himself enough to answer, though, Rabbitkit took over for him and he settled for nodding in agreement.

Condorheart's death weighed on him like a heavy stone. They hadn't been close, that was true, but she was his Clanmate. He loved her like he loved all the cats of WindClan, and he would have died to protect her if he'd arrived in time. She passed in a warrior's death, though, which was all they could have asked. As far as Cowpaw was concerned, Condorheart was a hero and would be greeted in StarClan as such. That didn't change the fact that those left behind would grieve for her for many moons.
Emerging from the apprentices' den with a little less pep than usual, the tom spied Ironclaw sulking a distance away. The temporary leader had to be feeling the weight of the warrior's death, especially since it had happened under his watch. It hadn't been Ironclaw's fault, though; it hadn't been anyone's. There was not one cat in StarClan or on the moors that could have prevented her passing, as tragic as it was. Hoping to cheer up the cat a little bit, Cowpaw sauntered over with a mouse and dropped it before Ironclaw's paws. "Would you like to share the mouse I caught earlier?" he invited with a small smile, offering it more towards the other than himself.
He was grateful Ironclaw accepted the mouse, knowing it would help him feel the smallest amount better. After the tom took a single bite, Cowpaw decided to make small talk while he chewed. "Oh, I couldn't sleep," admitted the young apprentice, feeling no need to explain further. Condorheart's death was fresh in everyone's mind. "I figured some fresh air would help. How have you been?" Gazing up at Ironclaw, Cowpaw leaned forward to indulge in a nibble of the mouse as well. He spent some time chewing. While the cat wasn't particularly hungry, eating was his comfort activity.
Cowpaw chuckled with the other at the joke, smiling softly at the attempt to lighten the situation. They all knew, but few were willing to talk about it; tragedy was difficult to come to accept. However, Ironclaw's latter words surprised him. "Can't do it much longer?" "Thinking of stepping down?" What was this? Bewilderment flashing in his amber irises, Cowpaw gaped slightly to the stand-in leader. "Ironclaw, what do you mean? You've been doing great. The clan feels so safe with you as deputy, and we trust you so much. WindClan has been stronger with you." His eyes remained steady on Ironclaw, hoping to cast his feelings across. He truly wanted the best for the tom, but if that meant stepping down to become a warrior again, he would understand. Jasperstar would, too, he imagined. Cowpaw knew no matter what happened that Ironclaw would be a respected cat.
Welcome back!

Ironclaw's words were thorns digging into his chest. The defeat in the deputy's tone would have broken the most cheerful of cats, which happened to include Cowpaw. Leaning over, the gentle apprentice rested his head on Ironclaw's shoulder, offering a small lick of comfort. He couldn't imagine what was buzzing through the other's mind, but he knew that Ironclaw had to be in a great deal of pain to admit this much. Condorheart's death had weighed heavily on all their shoulders. Cowpaw didn't realize quite how heavily until this moment, realizing this cat must have taken the sole toll of blame for himself. But that wasn't fair. No one could have prevented the tragedy, nor could have saved her in time. The best medicine cat or even a cat coming down from StarClan wouldn't have been able to revive Condorheart from the deathberries' merciful end.
He understood Hawkclaw's outburst, shocked and appalled at the words offered. Cowpaw, too, was startled by the news. Yet, how could he be angry when his friend was so deep in agony? Glancing up to meet his eyes again, he offered, "No one is perfect, Ironclaw. You have been a brilliant deputy and will continue to be so. Jasperstar isn't going anywhere for a long time - remember that. You will have plenty of time to learn from him and become everyone you've dreamed of being. And who knows? You might not even have to step up before your time. StarClan never gives us more than we can handle." Cowpaw's faith in StarClan helped him greatly through these times. The cat may not have been clan-born, but he was clan-raised and sometimes that counted more than anything else. Especially in scenarios like this, his devotion came through.

Tufts of grey fur rained down overhead, causing Cowpaw to gaze upwards. Today was a peaceful day, one that had consisted of a few patrols so far - nothing too interesting. However, that quickly changed when he found Ashkit perched atop a rock, declaring himself to be leader and attacking 'enemies' who were raiding. Purring softly in amusement, the apprentice was prepared to jump up and join him when suddenly he tumbled down, clipping above his eye with an 'oof' of pain. Even if he wasn't seriously hurt, Cowpaw was still at Ashkit's side instantly. "Hey, are you alright? Do you need to see Buzzardpaw?" The tom frowned at the injury, noting the tiny amount of clumsiness in the kit's step now. Had he hurt his head? Or was it just his forehead? Regardless, the wound probably needed to be cleaned. Maybe with the right amount of concern he could convince Ashkit to see the medicine cat. Of course, that depended on how stubborn he was.
