It was late evening as Tiberius sat on a hillside near the city, admiring the stars as they peeked from folds of thick, fluffy clouds. He caught a twinkle and in his mind, attempted to connect the dots to mumble a constellation name wordlessly. Draco was one, and he felt a small smile curl at his lips. Tiberius started to wonder, as he curled up on the grass, if he'd ever get tired of thinking of the stars. God, no, there was absolutely no way. Sometimes the Akita mix felt like a mistake had been made, and that he was supposed to be in space, not down there on Earth. A small feeling tugged at Jim's chest as he sighed, slipping into his own thoughts as the stars passed over him, glowing balls of distant, dying fire.

[ i really wanted to try and make this longer but my muse just escaped me sigh ]

    WERIFESTERIA

As Werifesteria approached, the aged canine perked his head and turned to her. He hummed softly, licking his scarred lips as he looked back to the sky. He was absolutely in love with the stars. They seemed to be the reason why the world was turning, for him. It wasn't just the stars though. It was the fact that their galaxy was too large to comprehend, and the prospect that other life lived out there. It was deep space travel that truly piqued his interest, but sometimes he preferred the calmer study of the stars to the hectic calculations and thoughts that came with imagining blueprints to a massive starship. Flicking his curled tail, sitting up as to not seem rude, Jim hummed. Mr. Spaceman? The older man almost laughed, but he huffed out a small chuckle; his brilliant hazel eyes gleamed.

"I'm always gazing at the stars, miss...?" He actually didn't know her name, despite that he had seen her around a few times. That was the case with Tiberius a lot of the time. He knew people's faces, but he never actually had the chances to learn the names to match with those faces. His ears twitching back for a moment, his gaze dashing to the cosmos as he awaited her answer, he let a smile tug at his lips. "They are truly beautiful. But, god, the worlds out there—they must be the things of dreams." Tiberius let out a forlorn sigh, as if he had been parted from a lover long lost eons ago. In a sense, he sometimes felt that way. It was like space was his lover, and he was stuck on Earth long ago, ripped away from his partner's embrace and thrust away away from them. That—that was the dramatic way of thinking about it.

Tiberius sometimes frequented the Garden of Eden. He did so just to look at everything; to admire the beautiful swath of colors that bathed one's eyes as they walked through. Even for an aged man who found himself more drawn to the sea above the clouds, he still had time to appreciate nature and her finest flora. That's when he spotted Ashina, and a familiar feeling settled in his chest—happiness. That's what he felt when he usually saw Ashina. She had become a good friend in a short amount of time, and Jim was thankful for her presence. The Akita mix yipped in greeting, "First Gareth... now you're goin' to perform some medical wonders?" The older man was only lightly teasing as he approached Ashina in the Garden, his curled tail flicking idly as he came to seat himself near her. It had seemed that many people were going to find places among the Medicine Guild, or maybe it was just Jim. Bringing his hazel hues to fall over the print in the book, his ears twitched forward as he hummed under his breath, some "campfire" song he had heard about from human culture.

A brow quirked when Ash said she had been appointed as a "Mender" within some other group. She quickly followed up with calling it a medic, and he smiled, clapping his paws softly. "Congratulations," he murmured, then he settled closer to her, his ears still pricked forwards. Jim couldn't deny that he was pleased by Ashina's presence, too. The older man was even surprised—when he had first arrived, Ashina had greeted him in her usual icy, distant tone. It obviously didn't make any dents within their future forming of a friendship, because Jim stuck around. His thoughts drifting, the canine then hummed. "You didn't exactly seem to be the type to be closing wounds and sticking herbs into peoples' mouths," he joked, chuckling.

As Angeldust began to explain to him the even more painful parts of going into space without protection, he simply nodded. "Yes—ebullism and hypoxia, too. I mean, basically saying one also boils in space practically covers those things on a simplistic level. But, sometimes it helps to know the scientific terms. There's also decompression and it's sickness, but only four men have died from absolute decompression. Four crew members on the Soyuz, the eleven, and it was due to decompression on re-entry in 1971." The aged canine would smile slightly as he spoke, all because he definitely adored rattling off bits of information he had collected over the years. Deciding to finally close off the gate to that conversation, he simply said, "Let's just say no one would want to go in space if they wanted to have their organs ruptured, bodily fluids filled wtih bubbles, cells mutated, and their blood de-oxidized." With that, Jim would nod and clear his throat, perking his ears slightly as Angeldust resumed speaking.

It definitely would be funny, and a total feat, for Tiberius, a canine, to be cruising among the stars in space. But, who knew. Maybe animals would evolve greatly and become humanoid in a sense. It had happened before, that's how humans came to be, so why couldn't it happen again? The aged man chuckled, his brilliant hazel eyes gleamed as he nodded. "I've definitely tried my best to calculate and draw out blueprints—extremely rough ones—to a starship. I'm no engineer, but reading a lot does have its perks," he chuckled. He wouldn't finish before adding, "Oh! Yeah! By then maybe I could send high definition photographs from the ship, to anywhere I want it." He shrugge his shoulders after that, a smile still on his lips. He had big, big dreams.

A brow cocked slightly as Jim heard her say 'normal' as well. A history with medical experience and being normal? Why, Tiberius didn't think she was all that different right now. Raising a brow, the male's curled tail flicked and nudged her slightly, his head then fully cocking. "Normal, Ash? What's that supposed to mean?" he questioned, a tint of curiosity to his voice. Maybe he was reading into it too much, but that wasn't exactly something people said a lot. Maybe something had happened back then, or, well, Tiberius couldn't know or predict what Ashina would say. So, the aged Akita mix would calmly wait for his answer.

    [ I JUST REALIZED I TYPED "WHAT'S WHAT" OOPS ]

The Akita mix hummed at that, shaking his head. "Well, that doesn't mean you're not normal," he murmured, blinking his hazel eyes up. The older man could sense the softness of her voice, and his ears twitched back, his gaze softening as he looked down at her. A rolling feeling in Tiberius' gut grew as Ashina started to look more distressed, clearly losing herself in her thoughts of her past. Again, the man didn't know too well of anyone's past here. He hadn't been around for any of that. What had he been doing while his new friends struggled with internal and external battles? He was somewhere exploring, reading about the stars. He was ignorant to what these people were going through; he just didn't know what was going on.

Jim was going to say something, to maybe break the silence, when Ashina screamed. He flinched; his blood pounded in his ears as she continued to cry out. For the first time in a while, tears rolled up in Tiberius' eyes. They were unshed tears of sympathy and helplessness. With all the parental talk he could give, the good words he tried to help with, he actually never really knew what to do more than talk. He always wanted to be there for people, and Ashina was no exception. "Ash," he whispered once she had stopped yelling. Her sobs ripped through his chest. Your friend is sobbing, Jim. Help her. He reached out a paw, placing it on Ashina as a form of comfort. He wanted to hug her, but he wasn't sure if she even wanted that. "I'm—sorry," he said breathlessly, distant.

Her words of murder and losing people rumbled around in his mind. Everything bounced around and painted a picture, dripping down a canvas. He swallowed quietly, then he moved to lightly embrace Ashina, his ears laid flat against his cranium. "I'm sorry. I won't leave—you're my friend," he murmured again, sniffling softly. Finally, the tears came down. Sometimes it was painful being like Jim. He cared so much for everyone; his friends, strangers, acquaintances, he cared. And, it always hurt him to see those he cared about hurting inside, too.

Jim was never exactly one for sparring, but he didn't back down from it either. Still, it was Gareth who was making the offer, and, like Ashina, he wasn't going to fight the child, but not due to the same exact reason. He just didn't want to throw a child or something. That just wasn't in his nature. Now, if it was someone else, someone older, he'd probably spar with them. Once seated near Ashina, glancing between Beck and Gareth, the older man smiled quietly. It would definitely be interesting to see the spar, and Tiberius silently hoped no one got too injured.

( also pls ignore the millions of times my posting template changes its a crisis rn )

Jim frowned, wiping his tears with his other paw as he sucked in a grounding breath, closing his hazel eyes and shaking his head softly. "No, I'll cry over you because I care, and I didn't know how much you were hurting inside," he then whispered, squeezing the embrace as to hopefully ground her, too. Tiberius had definitely come at a difficult time. Maybe if he had arrived sooner, he could've helped with all the problems going on in his new friends' lives. He could actually make a difference. For now, he felt helpless as he tried his best to comfort his newest close friend. "I'm sorry all this has happened to you—I'm sorry things forced you to be this way," he whispered, his voice a little more hoarse than usual. He cleared it; kept embracing Ashina.

"I'll help you as much as I can," he said once more. He really had no words at the moment. Jim hadn't felt a surge of emotion like this since... well, he couldn't count back. He hadn't experienced sadness in a while. He tried to keep it strapped down, buried deep beneath a cool, parental, and strong demeanor. He wanted to be the grounding for everyone else. But, even then, he had his "weaker" moments. Like now. Tiberius sniffled and closed his brilliant, gleaming hazel eyes, resting his chin on Ashina's back.

"I don't mind seeing you in this way. It's just..." he paused, a small, half-chuckle left his lips as he finished, "human." It was rather humorous because they weren't people, they were creatures. But, Jim couldn't exactly think of any other way to put it than, well, that showing emotion like that was quite simply human. He let her tuck her face into his fur, and he patted her once or twice more, before he pulled away slowly. He rubbed at his furred cheeks again, sighing softly. "Well... he murmured, his mind racing for things to say but not finding them.
