Nerys could carry a tune well enough, having a sense of natural pitch but not perfect pitch; that is, she wouldn't know which key to sing in, but she would easily get the melody of a song right - though it might be transposed a few steps. Her musical intuition was definitely owed, at least in part, to having a father who was willing to sing her lullabies, and who was willing to play along when she wanted to sing a lullaby for him and Jas.

She'd been watching Billie curiously as the other child fiddled with strange human objects that she didn't recognize. Maybe he was just playing with them, but she was too shy to ask what he was doing. Suddenly he stood up and started shouting, and the serval folded her ears back, shoulders tensing a bit at the volume. He was saying bad words, Dad said that was bad. But she wasn't going to tell on Billie, because nobody likes a tattletale. Instead she would just pretend not to hear them.

Music, though, that was cool. Hesitantly Nerys came forward, sitting a distance away from the crate and following the other's green gaze to the thingy in front of him. What was that thingy? It looked like someone had tried to hold it together with a bunch of strings side by side, but it didn't look like it was broken anywhere. Maybe he was going to hit it as part of the music.

She was way too old for this.

After six years of warrior duties, you'd think Crazy Aunt Rys would get to sleep in, for once. But noooo. The young warriors were out hunting and patrolling and... ahem, other things, while her old joints pretty much screamed at her if she so much as went for a ten-minute jog. So she got kit duty, y'know, make sure the warriors didn't come back to a bunch of kit corpses lying around. Now don't get her wrong, Nerys liked kits, but she was god-awful at taking care of them. She could never get them to listen to her since she only ever backed up her words with an appeal to logic, which, surprise surprise, kits weren't very good at.

The old serval was laying out in the sun, soaking up the last of summer's heat, when she glanced over to see Jersey gnawing on a pumpkin. Shit! The adults were totally going to kill her. "Hey!" Grey whiskers curled disapprovingly at the small group of kits. "That ain't food, ya little varmints! Git!" Hopefully that was enough to scare them off, because she really didn't want to get up. That required energy, and she'd spent plenty of energy just bothering to open her mouth.

//you're good!! sorry this is late too, im supposed to be studying OOPS

Nerys had been in BlizzardClan for as long as she could remember, granted, she barely remembered anything from before she was found on the border. She still didn't talk much to anyone other than her family, not for lack of trying, but because everyone seemed to have someone else to talk to. Instead she spent her time doing the usual, making harmless trouble and exploring various parts of life, settling on no skill in particular. She wanted to try a little bit of everything; so far, play-fighting was her favorite activity, but Jasper was too small and no other kits her age seemed interested in it.

Which left her mostly idling in the camp until Pierce came home. Hazel eyes looked around restlessly for something to do. A flash of blue caught her eye and the kit recognized Billie Joe's figure hunched over a... what was that thing called again? Nerys wasn't sure what the object was, but then, Billie was always messing with weird human objects she didn't recognize. He must be really smart! The child made her way over to him, trying to get a better look at what he was doing.

"Hi, Billie," she greeted warmly, though her limited vocabulary couldn't express what she really wanted to say. That, and she couldn't find the words. It was like this guy radiated coolness, and she was a bit intimidated by her own distinct lack of... well, coolness. "What are you doing?"

//wOOPS super late! rushed at the end as well

Nerys may have been her own person, but she was still at that age where she believed her father could do no wrong; he seemed to know everything, and she was not yet old enough to realize that even adults rarely knew what they were doing any more than she did. It was probably no surprise that Nerys tended to follow Pierce's example in many things, though her beliefs and preferences were still very much her own.

For one thing, Pierce acted like bad words were part of a chant to summon a demon or something. Rys didn't see what was so bad about them. It didn't mean she would go around swearing - why use those words when she could call people nincompoops, insulting them and getting to say "poop" at the same time? - but she didn't look down on any of her other clanmates for using those words. 'Specially not Billie Joe. Who could look down on Billie Joe?

Being acknowledged, Nerys's curiosity shifted to the instrument between them, and she walked closer to look at her reflection in the smooth blue paint. At his words, she turned her gaze back to Billie Joe with a confused smile. "Your songs are the best! - But what's a shit?" Wait, was that one of the words she wasn't supposed to say? She felt guilty for forgetting; but in her defense, there were so many words that others got to say that she didn't. What if she wanted to call someone else a dummy? It wasn't fair!

The young serval looked over at what Billie was 'writing', though she could barely even read, so to her, it looked as valid as a professionally printed book. It was supposed to be a song, right? Songs were fun to listen too, when they weren't too loud. She opened her mouth to ask if he was gonna sing again soon, but closed it when the older feline spoke first.

Looking for trouble? With Nerys's reckless wanderlust? Pfff, naw. "You bet!" she giggled. "And if there isn't any trouble to find, I'll make some."

Suddenly her ears were perked up and facing forward as an idea crossed her mind. "Ooh! I know! I'm gonna do a prank. I'm gonna tell everyone I'm making raspberry donuts, but I'm actually gonna make strawberry donuts for them. They'll never see it coming!" What a devious prankster Nerys was. It was a wonder she didn't already run a lesser crime syndicate. "D'you wanna help? Wait, do you even like pranks?"

So many new faces, so few of them stayed. Nerys was having trouble keeping up with them, and it made her irrationally upset. Why were there so many strangers? The young serval approached quietly and pressed her face into Pierce's fur for consolation. Strange how the trouble-making kit was taking on her brother's shyness, even though she was usually the adventurous one. But then again it was the natural result of too few long-term friends and too many short-term faces.

Through an almost heroic effort, Rys shifted her wide hazel gaze to the others in the crowd. "Um," she spoke up quietly, looking over at Coscmicpaw. "I don't know your name, but, um, I think the stars on your fur are really beautiful." And with that she drew closer to her father again, staring at the ground like she wanted to leave now.

Nerys wasn't really familiar with either of her clanmates here, but then again, who was she familiar with? The silver serval kitten decided it was time to try to make new friends, even if they didn't like her, she'd try anyways. She marched right in to London's house and listened in on their conversation, ears perked up at the last part she'd tuned in for. They were learning words? She had words to learn, too! Maybe they could learn together.

"Ex-cuse me miss, can I have a turn?" she mewed quietly but sweetly, looking to London with tensed muscles. "I want to learn, umm, what's a..." Wide eyes glanced at Sweetophelia, and on second thought, Nerys leaned in to whisper to the nice looking Paladin; the grown-up over there might tell on her. "What's a shit?" She whispered to London, whiskers pressed in genuine curiosity. Nobody would tell her what the word meant because she wasn't supposed to use it, it was frustrating.

Nerys had next to no idea what was going on, since she hadn't seen the post everyone was referring to was still too young to understand the gravity of the situation. This was where the heroes were supposed to prevail, right? She was sure everything was going to be okay, and it was all going to go back to the way it was, because all the stories said so. No matter how bad things looked. All the adults were just sad because they didn't believe in themselves! ... Or something like that. Where was the magical artifact fueled by the magic of friendship and love when you need it? The serval kitten snuggled her way in between Pierce and Aunt Isoletta, just watching the meeting with curious eyes.

Nerys was rather sheltered by her father, but it didn't keep her from daydreaming about the valiant warriors of old, fighting bravely and honorably for the gold and glory of it. In her mind, fighting wasn't a necessity -- it was a privilege. Both sides went into the fight knowing they might not come out of it, but that they were willing to take the risk, and that was the best part about it. It was fair because it was a game of preparation and wit, one that nobody would enter if they did not think they had a chance at winning.

"I want to join." Four months old as she may be, the serval kitten was stronger than she appeared - though this wasn't quite well communicated by the squeaky excitement coloring her voice. But then, who would want to pair up with her in the first place? Recognizing Cosmicpaw from Pierce's compliment party, Rys padded closer to nudge the other gently, silently asking for a partnership.

Nerys didn't have a blanket nearby, but how was she supposed to know if anyone else did? She could not answer 'yes' to Pierce's question, yet she couldn't know for sure whether the answer was 'no'. What a silly question, she thought to herself, wandering over anyway just to see what the blanket was supposed to be for, anyway.

And dear heavens, what was that in Pierce's mouth? She sniffed at the thing hanging from her father's jaws, raising a paw to poke the small figure. It looked like a... kitten? "It's so small! Was I really that small when I was younger?" She questioned, looking up at the vice leader. She remembered Jasper being pretty small, but then again, Jasper had always been small.

She looked over at Jerseyboy, wondering if maybe the older clanmate knew what was going on. But he seemed to know as little about it as her, so the kit just shrugged at him and went back to sniffing the new kid.

"Wow!" Nerys was intrigued by her father's answer, pressing against Jasper as she continued to inspect the little thing, recoiling in surprise as he yawned. Everything about him was so small, like Jasper in a way. It evoked a protective instinct from her mind, which she supposed Pierce might be feeling, too. She glanced over at Jerseyboy and Chesspieces, wondering if they had familial instincts even though she'd never seen them with their families.

But, Pierce's proposal initially put an emotionally confused frown on her face, and rightfully so. The prospect of having a new sibling was in equal parts upsetting and exciting. On the one paw, she didn't want to share her dad with anyone else, nor did she want to share the closeness of family with anyone other than the two faces she'd known for four months now; on the other, a new playmate sounded fun, and maybe she could protect him like she always tried to do for Jasper.

She might not be fully developed in terms of rationality, but Nerys was emotionally developed enough to know that if she wanted to voice her concerns, she would have to do it now. "But if you give your love to him, then you won't love me and Jasper as much," the kitten complained sadly but as maturely as possible, given her limited vocabulary. "And, and he doesn't even look like us."

No, she wouldn't have it. At least, not at first. Youth often came with short-sightedness, and it was likely that given enough time or a good enough argument, Nerys's curiosity for her new 'brother' would overcome her complaints about breaking the status quo.

    LEGENDS NEVER DIE ➳

Nerys was late like many others. Naturally, she took her place with her family members, frowning to herself that she still hadn't made much contact with anyone outside their small group. For some reason it was incredibly difficult to get anyone to respond to her, and not for a lack of trying. Ah well, at least her brothers seemed to be finding some success. "Good job, you guys!" she meowed with encouragement as the last announcement came up, attempting to give Jasper a playful nudge.
