ICARUS IS FLYING TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN - TAGS

"Birdpaw? I think it's time we had a talk." Duckstar was lingering outside of the medicine cat den, having paced outside of his own den for a bit until making the small travel over here. Passing an empty fresh kill pile and kits that slumped down into the snow, too tired to play their usual games that used to fill the camp with vibrant cheers and giggles. What a deathly sight that was. Even the short walk here was leaving him short of breath, his energy sapped from the light exercise. He took a short step back from the mouth of the makeshift den, awaiting the presence of the medicine cat apprentice. Her actions had been troubling lately, her fainting incident and her general demeanor. It didn't take an expert to see that something was wrecking havoc inside of her young mind. Something deeper than the starvation the clan was facing. He wasn't about to let things like this slip away unnoticed, it was his duty as leader to make sure his clanmates were okay. He may not be able to fix the twoleg ordeal but he could do his best to handle situations like these.

//i hope you don't mind that i went ahead and made a private thread for them, i just know that duck would be worried about her and all that crap that's been going down :-)

AND ICARUS' LIFE, IT HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

Hey everyone! I know that the starvation plot was supposed to technically end yesterday but I was checking to see if there was still any interest to continue it further? I got a messenge from the BloodClan leader's rolelpayer offering that WindClan ask to hunt on their territory which can forge a stronger alliance with them. However I'll leave this completely up to you guys, the plot can end or keep going as you guys wish :-)

Brittled strained bones creaked as he did his best to go as hurriedly as he possibly could across the moor. In his mind was the frozen scene of the startled npc's voice, their hollow eyes, and the words that they uttered that couldn't really be true...Could they? Lizardbounce always bounced back, he'd fought off a bear for StarClan's sake. But there was something to be said in the hopelessness that swam in the eyes of the messenger and he felt the same claws of pessimism curl over his heart as soon as he took in the messy bloodied scene. Lifeless bodies with one soon to join their stillness. "Lizardbounce..." Duckstar breathed shallowly, feeling a pain sharper than the dull ache of hunger strike through him. What a stark contrast the two of them were, one who'd been strong enough to lead the clan through a tornado and a flooded cave and one that could barely fend off a couple of measly twolegs. He should have asked him so many questions when he'd had the chance, spent a few moments with the previous leader. Instead what little time Lizardbounce had left was all he had.

"Brightshine is right. Your family will always be cared by all of us." The tabby meowed softly, bending down so that he would be closer to the ebony warrior. He felt an onslaught of dismay at the awfulness his family was about to face. The loneliness Stormfeather was going to feel, the pain Birdpaw and Bearpaw were going to have to go through. He grit his teeth in frustration, once again feeling the familiar uselessness at not having to stop things. If only he'd had some help, maybe then the former leader wouldn't be drawing in his last breaths. "You've shaped WindClan into the greatness that it is today. We all owe you so much. Your name will be passed on for many many moons, all of the future clan will know of your heroism."

//oof, very very sad to see such a wonderful character go, you breathed such an amazing life into his story </3

"Well if they don't then we all know who to blame." He teasingly purred as he followed after her, thankful for the shelter that the cave provided and also warmed by the memories the two of them had created here. "Although we all know that with such a fantastic mentor they will be some of the greats." He sheepishly added, a merry sigh bursting from him as he allowed himself to relax, releasing the tension he'd been holding in his shoulders. Her glow whenever she spoke fondly of her apprentices was one of the many things he admired about her and he snuck a peek towards her face, his own lighting up with a matched smile. His ear flicked as she batted it and he retaliated with a soft nudged while replying, "I think so...Sometimes it feels normal and other times it feels kinda strange. I wake up and imagine that I'll be seeing Mistralhowl or Rulindil atop the Tall Rock and not me." Boy what a relief that would be some days. The brown tabby added privately but truth be told he wouldn't trade his life he had now for anything and he affectionately blinked his eyes at her after meowing, "I'm glad to see you smiling so much, you always look so lovely when you do...Not that you don'y when you're not smiling. But, you know."

Well vomiting was certainly not the most lovely sound to awake to. There was a time that he would have avoided this scenario all together, in fact there had been one in particular when he'd done just that as an apprentice, but that was not the case now. It was difficult to rise from his nest, partly because he knew the cold weather would reach his frail body faster than it would if he'd eaten and partly because of the frailty he felt inside and outside of him. If it carried on like this then he knew he'd be losing another life. That wasn't the major concern though. His lives, although certainly cherished, weren't the most important. He slipped out of his outcropped den, sending for an npc to check and see if they could find one of their medicine cats before he stepped towards Brightshine. He frowned down at his senior warrior, knowing that the root of the problem wasn't something that was going to be easily fixed. "Brightshine you need to eat." Duckstar remarked gently casting a glance towards the usual empty fresh kill pile and his gut plummeted when he saw (not surprisingly) that it was empty. "If the hunting patrols manage to catch something today then you have to promise me that you will eat." Would she disagree? Most likely. A cat with her sized heart was most certainly going to put up a fight when it came to this.

The tribe. Not a smell he was used to but it was starting to become more and more familiar to him the more they visited the moorlands. So soon eh? He thought to himself once it became apparent that Mink was apart of the patrol, knowing that she'd been here about a moon ago with her new status as a tribe cat. As much as he wanted to be frustrated towards her he just couldn't conjure up enough to feel that bitter. Better to have her elsewhere then miserable in WindClan. As long as she was happy he supposed, then his clan should be content. There was also a familiar face in the small crowd as well and he dipped his head towards Crowflight, coming up to stand next to Brightshine, his eyes instinctively dropping towards the prey that some of them were holding in their jaws. His stomach immediately growled at the tantalizing sight, thankfully not too loud that it would be heard by others, but his his face flushed with warmth nonetheless. "Minksp-Mink. Crowflight. It's good to see you both." He commented, knowing that the news might not have reached the ears of others in the clan yet that the two of them had left. It was a touchy subject for some...Sparrowflight for example would probably not want to hear a word about it and there was no wrath greater than the wrath of a mate.

"What brings the tribe here?" Duckstar questioned, his words coming out in a low rumble, even if their prey spoke volumes in itself and his heart fluttered with a surge of hope. Would it be possible that his clan went to sleep with full stomachs for the first time in what felt like a moon? That mental sight was enough to bring the beginnings of a purr in the back of his throat but he stopped it before it could weasel out. Surely that was their business here, right? He doubted they'd be so cruel to trek over here, wave fresh kill in their faces, and leave. He tilted his head curiously before cringing slightly, his healed neck wound from the twoleg trap still acting up on occasion. Thankfully his fur was starting to grow back around it again.

He couldn't help the tiny frown that plagued his maw as he watched her limp out of the den, her cringe making him shift uncomfortably. Times like these he supposed he should count himself lucky. Lives to spare and a body, although starved, still not in a constant state of fragility like hers. Once the twolegs left and there was food then everyone who they had not lost would go back to normality. She on the other hand would still be affected by her invisible illness. "It's nice to see you too." He sighed and although it was a sigh it was still one that held the tiniest bit of relief. Small moments like these, that weren't surrounded completely with the threat of twolegs or hunger were cherished by him. He too peered around, although his reasons were for privacy more than anything, and once satisfied that the conversation would just be heard by the two of them he parted his jaws to speak. But before anything could come out he seemed to take notice of her nervousness, his ears flickering as they caught the end of her shaky words. "I just wanted to see how you've been holding up. I know there's quite a lot going on and you've had some trouble with your disease lately." He finally pressed on, knowing that the only way to quell her curiosity was to start explaining. "You seem...Off. Like something is affecting you more than just the hunger we're facing." Some nights he'd wondered if they should have made a trip to the moonstone, asking for the guidance of StarClan, but the trip would be long and weakening. And what could they do? Their ancestors held power, sure, but enough to drive away the twolegs? He often came to the conslusion that this was a problem they'd face alone.

//sorry for the late reply but ah i love birdpaw so much too <3

Such a small gesture made by Beetlebelly was enough to stir up a glowing atmosphere, one filled with a distraction of hardships, and he was thankful towards the warrior for suggesting the game. He did, in fact, take to ignoring Wilson (still ruffled from his last encounter with the grump) and instead took to focusing on Asphodelpaw and Pollenkit's youthful energy that the famine had tried, but failed, to crush. "I think Pollenkit might just have you beat." He deeply purred towards Beetlebelly, giving the kit a nod of approval for his banter. Duckstar felt inclined to step in and join but instead lingered back to watch. His strength was only just returning to him from last night, a life having been quietly sucked away from him in the darkness. It wasn't public knowledge, and probably wouldn't be, so this distraction was a welcome encounter.

AND ICARUS' LIFE, IT HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

Hey there! This isn’t quite a litter persay, at last not a “full” one, but I have been interested in Duckstar having siblings that he was unaware he had (through his mother’s side). I can pm you more details if this is something that interests you (the age will be completely up to you as his siblings could have be born after he was).

If not then I’ll happily ask other WindClan members if they have any litters open :-)

"Reja huh?" He echoed her name with a slight twinge of disbelief, knowing that the last time he'd heard mutters of the BloodClan leader they had been known as Nathanos. But sure enough the feline standing at the border was a far-cry from the brute he'd seen before, in fact she almost seemed to be...Friendly. Well friendlier than most BloodClanners he'd interacted with but all of that could be a facade and his suspicions were already heightened with the turmoil his clan was experiencing. "What can I do for you?" Duckstar questioned as he came slowly padding up beside Brightshine, his gait unsteady from the malnutrition that he and his clanmates were suffering with. His eyes, although tired, were lifted towards the young leader and still held the smallest sliver of spark.

He'd been so worried about so many things. As much as his constant doting had probably annoyed Sparrowflight, he was glad that for the past few days he'd chosen to not stray too far from the camp, not wanting to be completely glued to his mate's side but also wanting to remain within earshot if trouble arose. Or, on the other paw, if joy popped up and it would seem that today was the day. "I'm here!" Out of breath, huffing and puffing, the leader would bumble his way into the nursery as fast as his frail body would move. The warmth immediately encircled him along with the panic that others were feeling (he himself included). As much as he really really wanted to rush to her side he resigned to scooting along the edges of the den until he was close by Sparrowflight's head, wanting to stay out of the way of Boasong and Birdpaw.

"Ooh...Oh they're beautiful Spar!" He murmured before leaning over to very gently touch his nose to her forehead, "And you're doing so well." He added before pulling away to glance towards the kittens, admiring the amount of strength Sparrowflight must have to undergo such a feat. Although there was nothing but a soft glow in the center of his chest and an adoring stare swimming in his eyes underneath that was still the prickling worry that something was going to go wrong...It had been awhile to be able to walk blissfully without stumbling into a problem.

He'd awakened this morning with an uncomfortable itch and couldn't quite place what was wrong until he'd stepped out into the fresh...Rather warm air. At first there was a moment of 'oh that's nice!' But it was promptly swept aside once it dawned on him that it was far too early to have weather like this. The snow was melting underneath his paws as he walked, the sun was basking down onto his back, and he could almost hear the faint sound of birds chirping off in the distance. It was strange to say the least. Too early to tell if it was going to be another problem to pile upon the ever growing mountain of issues, so he supposed he should relish in the nice day while it was safe. A decent distraction from his hunger. But there was more to do than just get cozy in the anomaly and he once again found himself climbing atop the Tall Rock, blinking down at the coming and goings of the camp. He was sure his constant face atop this rock was getting to be a nuisance to his clanmates but such as life. There were matters to discuss. "WindClan I once again ask you to join me underneath the Tall Rock for a meeting!" Duckstar called out, his voice carrying throughout the camp. It was still weakened, sure, but slightly stronger than times before.
