^{i have a few things of advice, as somone who has fallen into a long distance relationship with a past friend and stayed with it for almost a year.}

^{1. keep talking. i know it sounds stupid, but i wholeheartedly mean it. with the distance, talking and texting is truly the only way to contact with your partner. text them good morning texts, good night texts. tell them they’re great. tell them you appreciate their presence. as the relationship blooms, tell them how much you love them.}

^{2. send selfies and video chat occasionally. you don’t have the privilege of seeing your partner everyday, face to face. as a kind little thing, surprise them with cute pictures of yourself. trust me, they will love it. set up dates through videochat (skype, facetime, whatever you can). the comfort of hearing your partner’s voice through the phone is... unexplainable.}

^{3. never seek touch in the hands of someone else. never. with long distance comes the ache of wanting physical contact. cuddling, hugging, just touching in general. you will see couples in the streets, holding hands and smiling, and jealousy will pit in your stomach. you will pass by restaurants and see a couple on a date, cheesy blushing and all, and jealousy will embed deeper. do not let this control you.}

^{4. be honest. tell them about your day, even if it is bad. don’t say “i’m fine” when you aren’t. don’t say “i’m tired” when you feel like sleep is the last thing that might help you. be honest.}

^{5. be clear. this goes with texting. people are unreliable and unpredictable, and texting is certainly a testament to that. when you send a text, try to be sure they will not take anything wrong. i did not, and this led to a rather ruinous fight... which is not fun at all.}
