He crept into the fronds and into the flowers. They were red and yellow and all over the place. He turned to Riversong, to see her reaction.

Cavernshine led her over to the den in the area. It wasn't huge, but it was a good enough size to fit two cats comfortably. He sat by the opening and watched Riversong walk towards him. He was glad to be alone with her.

Cavernshine laid with her. He was excited. He licked her ears, and her neck, and her back.

Aranai didn't move. She nudged the little pup again. She wasn't ready to believe it was truly gone. She felt another tear drop. The pup wouldn't respond.

Cavernshine rubbed against her too. "I love you too. So very very much." He licked her back more.

Aranai didn't want him to take the pup away. That was her son. She stood up and went to go after him. She was a sad sight, a distraught mother.

Blacksand watched as she slept. He couldn't sleep. He was still afraid of the other tom taking his mate.

Aranai laid beside the pups. She licked the two pups squirming beside her. The tan little girl was very small. Almost too small. This worried Aranai a bit. There was a storm coming. The other looked like a strong boy. She knew he could last through a storm. She moved both pups close to her belly so they could suckle. It took the little girl some prodding from her mother to start to feed. When both her living pups were well situated she looked at Fleck, then at the dead pup. She wanted to be happy. She had just had two beautiful pups, but somehow the one that didn't make it held most of her attention. Then, she turned to the den opening. It was starting to look like a big storm was coming. "Fleck, go get Nami. She can stay with us during the storm. And grab the deer left over outside. We will need food during the storm."

Cavernshine licked her. Then, he mated with her and laid down beside her. He nuzzled her. "Are you happy?"

Aranai began licking the dead pup again. She still wanted it alive. She knew Fleck didn't want her focusing on the lost son, but she couldn't help it. She was too strongly bonded with them. After all they were growing inside her.

Cavernshine heard the call too. He got up, sure that Riversong would want to help. He padded out of their little hideaway and went towards the source of the calling. He found the other tom being chased by a badger. Cavernshine leaped onto the badger, tearing at it's back.

Aranai turned her attention to the two pups by her side. The buy was fine, but the little girl was having trouble suckling again. She nudged the pup, trying to get it to suckle again. Finally, the little girl started feeding. She looked sadly at the little girl. Aranai was worried about her, but she didn't mention anything to Fleck. He had already lost a son. He didn't need to worry about losing her too.

Cavernshine fought the badger. He tore at it's neck until it stopped moving. Then, he looked around for Firefrost.

Cavernshine looked at the Tom. What had he done? He walked backwards from it slowly, afraid that he had just killed the tom when he attacked the badger.

Aranai's head shot up when Fleck told Nami that. Tears filled her eyes. Nami was so young. Too young to have to deal with this tragedy. Aranai felt sorry for young Nami. She tried to keep Nami from feeling too much hurt, so she beckoned Nami over to see the two squirming pups by her side.

Cavernshine couldn't watch anymore. He turned his head. He just hoped Riversong knew what to do.

Aranai watch Nami. She smiled as the young pup nudged the newborns. Then, she saw it. She could tell Nami noticed how little the girl was. She wanted to distract from the thought of losing another pup so She looked from Nami to Fleck. "So I decided on names." She nudged the little girl. "She is Posala. and he..." she nudged the boy. "... is Ryter."

Aranai was hungry, but she didn't want to leave the hungry pups. She looked at the deer in the corner. Then, she just laid her head down. being a mom is going to be harder than I thought.

Aranai smiled at Fleck. She reached her head up to lick his nose. "I love you, you know. And not just because you bring me deer." She smiled, then took a few bites of deer.
