    [size=8]if he could think, he would say that he was scared. he was afraid. of what was happening, would had happened and what was going to happen. it had dark, and warm, and safe. and then it wasn't. it was lighter, colder, and not safe. instincts told him to find that again. he squirmed until he could feel the presence of Someone. he wanted the dark, and warmth, and the safety again.


    without really knowing what he was doing, the child moved until he pressed into the soft belly of that Someone, his mother. she smelled good and a completeness filled him. this was right, even though there was no dark. it was warm and safe. the child began to suckle on his mother, kneading her belly with fragile paws. then he felt other beings, tiny ones just like him on either side of his body - this was right, he thought, but really didn't. this was safety.

    [size=8]cranekit bursted out of the nursery, his fur messily arranged as though he had just woken up. and he had! but now everyone else was awake and the nursery was almost empty, he didn't want to be alone in there. not that he minded being alone. he just wanted to be where the cats were! the kit blinked at the sudden brightness of everything before focusing in on the ones he saw first.


    "moonkit! dad!" he beamed at the two of them as though he hadn't seen them in moons. he made his way over to the two of them rather quickly, practically bouncing, as they weren't very far away from the nursery. "good morning!" his green eyes found cougarstar and desertkit.


    as if some switch had went off, he subdued immediately but still kept his chipper mood - the two of them were more serious than moonlit and owldapple and they were really good at looking cool. he wanted to be cool.


    "good morning, mom. hi, desertkit." the tom planted himself on the other side of cougarstar, leaning into her so their furs brushed each other. the kit tried hard to appear as calm as his mom and sister. but being still wasn't his strong suit so his tail swished back and forth and his ears constantly twitched, revealing how much energy he had in him.

    [size=8]the kitten was already up and about, bouncing around to greet as many cats as possible. a wide, unstated grin full of mischief pulled at his muzzle and didn't seem to falter once at each irritated or sleep-laced response.


    and look there! there was...he hesitated, peering at doepelt with a special intensity as he approached. he didn't know this she-cat. she looked friendly enough but she sort of looked...quiet - if someone could even look like that. "hello!" he greeted, grin stretching further as he spoke. "i'm cranekit. what's your name? is it something with cloud? you look very soft."


    was he rambling? the kit seriously considered this thought for about one second. his answer? probably.


    delicate eyes would shift from doepelt to cougarstar and light up. "hi mom!" he bounded toward his mother in a stumbling manner, running his cheek against her leg in greeting. "do you know the brown she-cat?" he asked, his head shifting to doepelt with curiosity written in his wide eyes.

    cranekit looked at doepelt with wide-eyes. she was a warrior? doepelt was such a cool name! what kind of name would he get? his grin widened and he moved closer to doepelt when she laughed. she didn't seem so quiet anymore! she actually seemed pretty nice, and her laugh was so loud. a warm feeling spread from his tail-tip to his ears. it felt great to make her laugh.


    "i am feeling great!" he opened his mouth to rave about his recent dream but paused. "how are you doing, doepelt?" his tone was only slightly polite, as it still held his jubilant air to it.

    the tom-kit scurried onto the scene, kicking up dirt from his sudden stop. "i wanna play, i wanna play!" he squealed. his fur seemed even messier and ruffled than usual, but that was because he had done some work to set up a prank. it would be funny to see the reactions of the warriors when they found their bedding was wet!


    instead of jumping in immediately, he stayed still to take in what was going on. they flicked past frecklekit but came back with less excitement and narrowed in on him. he watched his actions carefully but when he spoke, his tone was still the same; light and bouncy. "are you okay, frecklekit?" he moved closer but not enough to touch him. "did you have dirt on your face or something?" a smile came onto his muzzle. "the queens always try and clean my face because they say it's dirty, but it doesn't feel dirty!" the kit was attempting to lighten up his brother's obvious low mood.
