Wrenbreeze had long taken a seat just near the front, close to his leader. He was a bit uneasy, as he was unaccustomed to being at gatherings and shoved into such a big crowd, but he didn't let it show on his face or posture. He sat up straight, eyes trained towards all the other cats attending. His ears flicked and swiveled at all the conversation, the noise occupying the space. His heart fluttered inside his ribs like a caged bird, eyes roaming over the mostly unfamiliar faces, before lifting up at the sound of Cougarstar's voice.

All the chatter seemed to die as the gathering began, giving him the chance to listen in. He frowned while listening to all the unfortunate news of their clan, remembering back to the attack and Smokestar. He had never really paid much mind to the former leader, mostly consumed in himself. But now, he didn't have much of an option too. As deputy, he had to become more selfless, something he was but didn't outwardly show.

When the news of his promotion came up, he couldn't help glancing around, as if someone would speak up and reject him. But none did and he let out the breath he didn't know he was holding back. It progressed normally, and he could feel the air being choked in tension as Sunningrocks was mentioned. As unambitious as he usually was, there was a small flame ignited at the Thunderclan leader's response, his expression one of frustration. That piece of territory was rightfully Riverclan's, and the prideful fox-hearts had stolen it from them.

//that makes both of us lmao

Wrenbreeze nodded in agreement. Seeing the stars held up in the sky now, he considered staying up late to marvel at them, but he and everyone else knew he wasn't the kind to do that. It was just his old habits sticking, though he had long abandoned the lazy oaf he was. Some things just didn't change, unfortunately, despite how much one would like to change them. It was something he had to understand.

He lowered his head to stare back at Rabbitfoot, smiling softly at his comment. "Nah, I'm sure you'd make a good confidant," he half-teased. He wanted to lighten the atmosphere a bit, trying to steer away from his problem so they wouldn't have to talk anymore about it.

    RULES
wrenbreeze, although acting brash and confident, usually isn't the type to take initiative. he doesn't flirt unless prompted to, and even then he only sees it as mindless fun. if he has a crush on someone, he'll just dance around the subject and pretend it isn't there. to start some kind of relationship with him, make a thread (private or not) asking him out in some way, or confess to him. threads that are made without ooc warning are appreciated and welcomed.
he doesn't believe in only physical relationships. he wants the emotional attachment, although he will be scared/intimidated by it. he's a big teddy bear that needs validation and reassurance that he's doing a good job.
speaking of being afraid, wren will have random moments where he avoids his partner. he probably believes he isn't good enough for them, and is trying to get them to see this through trying to distance himself. he also fears getting close to others and will be a bit hesitant. he'll need a lot of assurance and a patient partner.

//aaa why are you guys so good

He wasn't aware of anything but the inky blackness that swam around him. He felt cold, and had difficulty with drawing in breath. Somewhere, panic rose and he was sure he would die, here and now. Then it was suddenly easier to breathe, the shallow rising and falling of his side barely noticeable. He could hear voices, far away and muffled, but they were surely there. Then it fell into only one, lone noise, an uncomfortable prodding at his body. He wanted to lash out and tell whoever it was to stop doing it, but his body wouldn't stir. He was frozen, stuck in an unconscious state.

He could feel one presence, then another and one more. He felt them surrounding him, two people now breaking the uneasy quiet. The poking had stopped. Now, it was replaced by a dull pressure at his sides, something forced up inside him from the squeezing. Water made it's harsh ascend up his throat and through his mouth, forcing a hard cough. He spluttered for a moment, the ground under his head wet and soft from what had been clogging up his throat. His vision of the world was still blurry and he blinked his eyes to steady it. Slowly the colors came together, forming coherent scenery.

Wrenbreeze slowly lifted his head, an ache riding through his body, slightly chilled. His gaze wandered, landing first on the concerned expression of Desertkit, a frown on his face. She was probably the menace who was poking at him while he was disabled. Turning, he looked to the ones by his side, his face growing hot enough to distract him from the cold.

"Ah, my...uh, apologies, for causing a distress," he said slowly and nodded. He was embarrassed to be caught like this, though he knew that if he hadn't, he wouldn't have woken up at all. "Thank you, Cougarstar. I mean it," now, his admiration had saved his hide, and he knew that he had placed his life in good paws. He was suddenly glad to be positioned directly under her as a sort of assistant, a nervous smile gracing his face.

"Do you really have to scream like that? Sheesh,"

The deputy complained slightly as he padded forward, cuffing his apprentice's ear. For a sick cat, he sure didn't act like one. But it wasn't usually like Mistpaw to be all quiet and to himself. He looked down at the kit, pouncing and chasing after the butterfly, gliding through the air and avoiding the kit's paws. He smiled softly, pleased with Ivykit's still naive nature. Sometimes he wished he could still curl up without a worry like he did when he was this age.

Wrenbreeze, though he was glad that Riverclan was steadily growing in number, was concerned for the clan's health. More mouths to feed meant less prey, and they already had such a low supply, what with their resource being poisoned. Now more than ever did he believe and agree with what Cougarstar had said about owning Sunningrocks.

He would remember this face, as he had been there when she nearly got herself poisoned, and when Rainwatcher had supposedly 'saved' her. Breaking someone's leg might have been his way of rescuing people from uncertain doom, but others would probably agree that there was a better way. As much as he smirked lowly at the thought, he knew that he had only good intentions when he tackled her. The medicine cat apprentice wasn't a malicious person-at least he didn't think he was.

Wrenbreeze joined at Cougarstar's side, looming like a bodyguard. He heard their words, of the female being a former clan warrior, but he still didn't quite trust her. That's why he stared on and made sure the leader was alright, even though the she-cat needed anything but protecting. It was probably more for his benefit so that she could see his loyalty. "I'm Wrenbreeze," he offered simply.

TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — The tom stiffened, momentarily startled by the predator that had caught his tail. He turned and noticed just who the culprit was, a slightly irritated frown on his face. He had been aware of the kit hiding in his shadow, though he wasn't sure why she found him particularly interesting. From his view, he was a pretty normal clan cat, aside from being deputy. His throat tightened as he suddenly remembered and he willed it away for now. Instead, gently batting the kit's ear, he turned his attention back towards the injured she-cat.

The form lingering in the corner of his eye distracted him, however, turning to see who it was. A wickedly mischievous grin wound it's way onto his maw and he motioned towards the tom. "Ah, it's the assailant himself," he purred in amusement. Despite Rainwatcher being somewhat older than him, he still liked to tease the tom.
