The sound of claws hitting the hard, wooden floors refused to die down. The monster; the very thing that started appearing in all of her dreams was searching for her. It was so close. Did it know where she was? Balling up a bit, she attempted to take up less space in the broken-down closet. Thankfully, she was a cat this time, making her hiding much, much easier.
"Is he gone?" A soft, fearful voice whispered to her. It was the same voice that haunted her dreams. It was the voice that consumed her thoughts every day she was alone. Every time she heard it, she wanted to cry. Her eyes traveled over to the source of the voice, eyeing the tiny, white-furred cat that was cowering next to her, eyes shut tightly. It was the first time she'd ever seen her. The cat's mouth didn't move, nor did the sound of her voice seem to attract the monster over.
"I-I don't know!" Cass's mouth didn't move. Nor did she even expect to be talking to this cat. However, Cass felt the need to protect her. Despite her own fear of the monster outside, Cass had to protect her. Blank eyes staring through the cracks in the closet, Cass noticed the monster's lumbering form leave the room. The fading clicking of its claws was the only sound she heard.
"He's gone." Still, her mouth didn't move or let out a sound. The she-cat next to her nodded, opening her eyes. Just like Cass, she had blank glowing eyes. Yet hers were a shade of green-blue, which complimented her white fur. The she-cat gave her a nervous smile. " Let's go then." the she-cat whispered, still not using her mouth to talk. The monster didn't seem to hear them either, so the coast was clear.
Together, the two ran, attempting to make as little noise as possible. They slowed towards the exit of the room. Cass peeked out the door to check if the monster was nearby. Nothing. There wasn't even the faintest sound of clicking. Nodding towards the other cat, the two darted down the hall and into the next room. They were so close to the exit. More clicking could be heard down the hall, coming closer and closer.
"Hide!" The two scrambled to find a hiding spot, with the two both diving beneath a bed. Cass squeezed her eyes shut, in order to not give away her hiding place. She wasn't sure if the other she-cat did the same. Cass held her breath. The clicking came closer and closer. The monster was almost here.
Click. Click. Click.
It stopped. The she-cat near her gasped, as growling could be heard from the monster. Cass cracked open her eyes. Without a warning, the monster pushed his head under the bed, snatching the white she-cat by her back legs. Cass froze up, eyes widening.
"Cass!"
"Anelia!"
---
Eyes snapping open, Cass found herself laying in an uncomfortable, twisted position. Her cheeks were wet, stained by the 'tears' in her eyes. They were black, like the rest of her insides, seeming to melt into her fur and disappear. Anelia. Cass had definitely heard that name before. Her tears continued to fall and continued to melt back into her body. Cass started sobbing heavily, covering up her face with her paws.
Anelia. She had failed to save Anelia. That girl, paired up with that name and that voice. Cass knew her. But, how did she not think about her until now? Why was she constantly in her dreams. The more and more she thought, the heavier she began to sob. And little did Cass know, but she had called out Anelia's voice in her sleep, possibly alerting anybody who was nearby.
