I'm not sure there's too much we can do without the ability to recplicate the problem or at least have a basis to start from

in the reply box, top left you'll see a square with rounded edges. If the square is just an outline, you're in WSYWIG. It'll give you a bit of a preview as to what the post will look like.

If the box is filled in, you're in BBC mode and everything will be in its coding format.
