    Starrynight Monet

    5 months - RiverClan - Shy - Invisible Scrolling

Starrykit's breaths were coming in heavy pants, struggling to keep on her feet as they trudged across the terrain. Her lungs felt like they were on fire, her back aching as the curvature of her spine made walking a difficult task. She was always a sickly kitten, born with genetic deformities, such as the Hemvetrabra in her spine, and the Vitiligo of her pelt; though was currently mostly black, it was beginning to earn more of the white spots that had gained her name 'Starry'. Her story was an unfortunate one, cast aside at her birth because she was deemed to be less likely to live. At five months old now, she was proving them wrong.

It was only a few months ago that she met Exaltedshepherd and Americankit, her apparent siblings. They had been kind and caring, and they, as far as she was aware, had grown close to each other. At the very least, Starry was very fond of her siblings, and loved and cared for them as if she had known them all her life. But she was still young. "I'm... doing my best," she meowed out in a huff as she followed a few steps behind her eldest brother. Where had they been going again? She hardly remembered, but by the time they reached the top of the hill, her legs wobbled, but there was a swell of pride in her chest. She did it! All this walking, and they were finally here.

Stepping up at her brother's side, she sat down slowly, shuffling her paws until they were comfortable. She was sitting up straight, but she looked as if she were slightly hunched over, taking in deep breaths to catch her breath from the excersise. Her gaze was alert, watching the surroundings with a little bit of nervousness, not sure what to expect.

Starrykit already lived a selfconcious life. She was highly aware that she looked different, walked different, and was different from other cats; even her borther and sister who were fortunate enough to have been born healthy. Her splotched fur was only growing more splotched, and the curve in her spine made her look like the beginnings of a Hunchback. Worse than that, she was always a shy one, stemmed from these reactions towards herself, and her own thoughts about her person. So when Exalted dragged her along, it had been with some protest.

But now, she was forced to sit there quietly, shuffling her paws as she waited for the leader of RiverClan to approach. Unlike her siblings, she didn't know much of her parents or her 'old' life, so while there were still some ideas of Monarchy within her head, Riverclan's leadership system didn't seem terribly odd. It was just different. "Shep... Do I really have to say hello?" she asked in a whisper, knowing the question in itself was rude. She lightly patted her paws into the ground, shuffling around to try and make her back appear straight, though her gaze was kept low, watching the ground more; another rude thing, as she did not meet Shep's gaze as she spoke to him. At this realization, she did look up, her eyes glittering a little nervously. "What if she doesn't like me?"

Starrykit's breath hitched as the fluffy white marshmallow dog appeared from her Den, straightening up as much as she could, though even with her attempts she looked a little hunched over. "W-w-w-we..." she stammered out, her voice small and pathetic as it died away, glancing to her siblings for help before looking back, taking in a deep breath as she tried again, shuffling her paws and doing her best not to mumble and be polite. "W-we... wanted... to meet you... i-in person... A-and... and.... thank you... for letting us stay," she murmured. That was right, wasn't it? At least, the gist of what Starry understood. American and Shep could butt in and add more however they liked.

Starrykit was new to this Clan, along with her siblings. Still being new joiners, they hadn't felt the extreme desperation for water that this poor leader was; though perhaps the kitten moreso than her siblings due to her large variety of health issues. But that aside, the little kitten slowly walked through the dry territory, not liking the dips in the earth where water once was that made her lose her balance. Her curved spine made things difficult for her, and her meander towards Ivy, whom she saw sitting beneath a tree, was slower than it should have been for a kitten of her age.

"M-m-miss Ivy?" she stuttered out softly, still a little nervous speaking up to someone of authority. "You... look tired. Are you okay?" the little kitten questioned softly, licking her lips as she shuffled her paws, doing her best not to mutter or be rude with the question.

Why was Starry here? Away from her family, and away from the protection of her siblings and anyone she knew? What made the sickly kitten, affected with Hemveritbra, a genetic mutation in her spine, to struggle all her way to WindClan? Truth be told, RiverClan was a struggle for her. Even during their drought, the idea of being around open sources of water, and unable to swim- when she already struggled with walking- scared her far too much to even risk being around the camp. She had to sadly bid her siblings farewell, though promising that she would see them always, and do her best to make sure they stayed in touch, but she had to think of what was good for her too. And the risk of getting sick or drowning was just too high there for the young kitten to feel safe.

But finally, upon the border of WindClan, she paused in her steps and sat, panting in heavy breaths as if she had been running miles; though in reality she had only been walking, struggling with each step. But she did, and with pride she looked upon the gentle wild-flower dotted hills and open air, taking in a deep breath to try and calm the burning in her lungs. The little kitten was self conscious of herself, especially now that she was facing a new Clan alone.

Oh no, what had she been thinking? The anxiety shot through her, suddenly doubting all of her choices. Why did she leave Americankit and Exaltedshepherd when both her brothers could have protected her? But it was too late. The kitten desperately tried to sit up as straight as she could, but even with the attempt she looked a little hunched over. Was her pelt clean? She quickly ruffled it, then allowed it to remain smooth against her body again in a desperate attempt to look nice. Her pelt was mostly black, for the time being, but it was beginning to dot white with the appearance of her vitiligo, but also of her name sake, 'Starry'.

    /mobile. Sorry for any mistakes.
Starry drew in a few more deep breaths as she finally got her breathing under control, just in time for Johnathon, the, Alligator, then Lusa to pad up. Ruffling her fur, trying to appear as if she wasn't shyly shrinking back, she swiftly put a smile on her face, doing her very best to mind her manners.

"H-hello, sir... S-sirs.. Sorry.. A-and ma'am, too! I uh.. Uh..." her voice fell away as it grew in octave, her kaleidoscope eyes crackling with uncertainty. They were eyeing her with worry.she knew what she must look like. Thin, hunched over unintentionally, puffed out like a marshmallow to try and appear more healthy.

She blinked once, then twice as her head perked up on surprise at Alligator's sudden comment, clearly not expecting it. "O-oh! You.. You like it?" she questioned softly, her ever increasingly white pelt being something she was rather insecure of. "Thank you," she added quickly, not wanting to be rude to the gracious people asking about her.

"M-my name is... Is Starrykit. I-it's nice to meet all of you. Uhm.. T-thank you for asking I... I was wondering..." Her voice, almost softer than a whisper, paused yet again as the kitten shyly looked away. Would they accept her as she was? Sickly, shy, hardly more than a scrap in the wind? A burden in her eyes.

There was only some way to find out.

Starry gathered up a deep breath for courage, then spoke. "I would like to join! Please, sirs and ma'am.. I-i would like... Like to... If.. If that's okay?"[/b]

Starrykit's face lit up, straightening up as she snapped out of her shyness to express a moment of pure graditude and excitement. "I can? Oh, thank you, thank you!" but then, seeming to realize her outburst, she paused with a blink or two as her voice returned to its gentle whisper, still trying not to be rude to these people, even if they didn't mind her excitement. It was better, she figured, to avoid insult as best as possible, less the outcome be less than she wished for.

Though, at Alligatorpaw's words, she gave a little grin. This one really seemed nice; and he didn't mind her pelt! And he didn't seem to notice her Hemvertibra, either, which made her feel a little better. She hated her appearance, and often wished she were different, but she peered closer at the tom cat, and her whiskers twitched with small amusement. "I would like that! But, uhm... Is it... c-completely empty? Because I.. well... I don't have anything to put in it or anything like that," she explained a little nervously, padding her paws against the ground slightly. "O-oh, and! I uhm.. I like the heart on your chest. It's cute. Y-you're the perfect 'Valentine-month' cat," she explained a little sheepishly. She had heard tales about Valentines day and how it was supposed to be a way to let your friends and family know how much you cared for them. This little apprentice with the heart on his chest just seemed simply perfect for such a month.

But her gaze turned yet again to Lusa as she swallowed nervously. She glanced down at herself a little self-conciously. Did she look that sickly? Oh no... Well, she sort of felt it, so maybe it was a good idea that she could finally rest. "Y-yes please... I would like that."

Starrykit understood what it was like to be judged and ridiculed for your physical appearance. To feel useless, small, and unneeded in a world so wide, so big, and so full of opportunities- to the ones that were fortunate enough to be physically or mentally able to be a part of it. In her young life, Starrykit was facing two genetic mutations- the one to her pelt, which was harmless, aside from changing the black-colored tone of it to speckled white like the starry sky, and the one that caused her the most problems. Hemvertibra, which curved her spine, and made daily tasks, like walking, or even breathing, a chore.

So maybe that's why, despite her age, she approached the adviser without a glint of fear or pity in her eyes. She didn't want to be pitied, and she figured he didn't want to be either. But she had heard the canine's frustrated slam of his balcony, which made her ears perk up as she rose unsteadily to her feet, then wobbled closer as she tilted her head, trying to understand the situation. He was sad. He shouldn't be sad. It just wasn't right! No, Starry didn't know him, but kindness, happiness, it was everything.

"H-hello, sir?" the timid voice of the kitten spoke up, soft and whispery as she slowly approached, sitting herself in front of the blind adviser. Her footsteps were a little heavier on the stairs as she wobbled her way up slowly, uneasily, before sitting carefully, hunched over despite her attempts to sit straight. "I-i just wanted to say, I really like your scarf! I'm... I'm Starrykit, by the way- I-i'm sorry I forgot to say I'm... I'm really bad at this whole talking thing and... I don't know what to say or do and- oops!"

She cut off suddenly as she realized she was rambling, her fur ruffling in embarrassment, but she swallowed and looked back up, determined to try and make this handsome coyote feel better. Timidy, she would reach out to nudge her cheek against his shoulder. "Are you sad because you can't see?" she asked innocently, not really giving him time to reply before she continued on. "You know what, though? I-i bet you're great at a lot of things! I-i mean, you have a nice coat! Someone said my coat looked like Stars. But I don't like my pelt. I-is that weird? O-oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to ask what your name was... I'm trying, I promise! Oh, no, no.. L-let me start over, okay?" Grinning as best she could, shying away a little, Starry braved her best smile as she took in a deep breath.

"Hi! I-i'm... Starrykit. I-i'm five moons old, a-and I think your scarf is really neat! W-what's your name? Are you okay?" She really was trying to make him feel better, even if she didn't know exactly how. Perhaps that's why she resorted to rambling. Trying to make him laugh at her miserable attempts at conversation- though they were most likely unintentional, but if they had that affect anyway, she would be happy to see him not so sad anymore.

Starrykit's ears flicked as she heard her name being called out, doing her best to try and clean up her house and get it decorated as best she could, which was proving to be a difficult task for the kitten, already panting from trying to drag her nest around from place to place to make it cozy and seem like it belonged where it was being settled. But she recognized the voice of Alligator paw, letting her bedding drop from her paws as she moved towards her door, nudging it open as she peeked out.

"H-hello! Do... do you need me for something?" Starry asked quietly as she eventually stepped all the way out, her steps rigid to hide the little wobble in her step, as well as trying to hide her panting from physical exertion as she shut the door behind her. What could Alligatorpaw possibly want? She had moved into the house next to his, and she was, secretly glad to have the energetic apprentice as her neighbor. He seemed like someone she could rely on if she needed help, which she most likely would.

But still, what would Alligatorpaw be calling her out for? It was truly a mystery.

Starrykit flinched at the sudden yowl, but it caused herself to wobble and nearly fall over as she quickly had to cross her forepaws to catch her balance with a little squeak. "H-hi, Alligatorpaw.. W-what are you so excited about?" she questioned softly, drawing in another deep breath once she had finished to still her panting; though she got the answer mere seconds later. Go exploring? Now? Oh, dear.. she didn't know if she could.

"T-that sounds nice but..." she began timidly. How did she say it? There was no good or bad way to do it. "I get... tired really easily. I-i don't think I could keep up with you, that's all! W-where would we go?" Mountains and hills were the bane of Starrynight "C-c-cause... I don't uhm... I don't really uhm... Walk well," she explained as her gaze shyly dropped to the floor and she almost retreated a half-step back, shameful of such a thing.

The young WindClan Kitten was doing her best to get out and get her exercise. With her genetic conditions, walking was often difficult for the young kitten, but she perservered as best she could, wanting to be independant, as much as she could in any case. But, the sight of the antlered Dire wolf making Starrykit's head tilt curiously as she wobbled closer, sitting down across the border to face the stranger. She looked a little hunched over, despite her attempts to sit up straight, but she spoke up softly instead, more of a whisper than anything.

"H-hi, Sir.. A-are you here to join WindClan?"

Starrykit cringed as she expected pity from Alligator, shrinking back as she opened her mouth to being mumbling apologies for everything, her ears flattening back at his reaction. But when he lit up again, all at once, her eyes went wide at his suggestion. It would work yes, but she'd also feel rather silly, and terrible for making him have to do that at all. She wanted to be independent! But... she knew she couldn't. "U-uhm... Okay, if you really want to? B-but you... you don't have too if you don't want to, okay?"

Still, she had to muster a smile at his enthusiasm, and his attempts to make things easier for her. She would appreciate that, she knew, once she got over the embarrassment of being so helpless that she had to be carried to make it long distance. But she did want to explore the territory more, and she knew that she wouldn't be able to make it far if she were on her own four feet, not after having spent most of the morning trying to deal with her den.

So, stepping forward with a smallest bit of wobble that she tried to hide, she sat down to stretch out her front paws in preparation to climb on Alligatorpaw's back when he stepped over, so they could start off on their adventure.

Starrykit was still new, trying to get a grip on where everything was in the Clan. She knew the borders, and the village; where Alligator paw lived, and who the leader was, and was beginning to recognize some of the familliar faces around the Clan. But in her days of wandering, such as she was now, she was doing her best to explore one new place per day. That was, typically, as much as the kitten could manage without showing heavily-visible signs of her birth conditions. Her Hemvertibra caused a curved spine, and a slight wobble in her walk that, when she was worn out, was far more prominent than the kitten's liking.

Still, in awe of the library as she padded in, her gaze trailed down to find someone sleeping on the floor. Oh my, was he okay? Well, he seemed to be. Did people usually sleep in libraries? Starry wouldn't know, this was the first one she had ever been in. Shuffling her paws as she stared down at the form of Jekyll, she looked around the library, perhaps for a blanket or something to cover him with. That's what you were supposed to do, right? Oh, but she couldn't just leave him there, either!

Torn for several seconds, Starrykit eventually wobbled over to the Deputy, outstretching a tiny little paw to poke him gently in the shoulder. "U-uhm... Mister? Sir? Are... are you okay there, sir? Y-you're just asleep, right? Why are you asleep on the floor?" The questions were mostly to herself, but they were fair enough questions for him too, if he happened to wake to hear any of them. Regardless, the kitten would sit carefully at his side, continuing to prod and poke at his shoulder to rouse the Deputy who, in her mind, simply couldn't sleep on the floor.

Starrykit had tried to get involved with the Clan lately, well, at least as much as the young kitten could, but found it was rather hard to; especially when she didn't know the faces of those around, only those that she had seen most often. And despite her shyness, she knew her brothers would be proud of her for trying to put herself out there and introduce herself- as much as she currently was seeming to fail at the whole 'speaking' thing.

"U-u-uhm... H-h-hi... I... I was wondering... if uhm," she started, forcing herself to take a breath in attempt to make her words smoother again, though her voice still shook uneasily as she padded her front paws into the ground, looking at them for courage to speak; pretending like she wasn't calling out for a group of people to come gather around her. "If a-anyone... Would like to.. Come introduce themselves... Please? I-i'm Starrykit! B-but... I don't know a lot of you yet..."
